David, Richard, Nick and Friends did this track live in concert in Hamburg in 1989, it just came back to me after 30 years ! The power of music memory, heh ? I think you both know by now what I would like to hear from you guys from Queen, but also from Pink Floyd's last combined live concert in London, 2005, with all former members present. Watch it and get blown away ! Thanks again for your good work !😜

Everything on Pulse is brilliant, but High Hopes is my favourite. But, and this is very important, pick a 60fps upload. Because for some reason all other uploads of the song have very poor audio quality (in some cases even the wrong pitch). So search for "Pink Floyd High Hopes Pulse 60fps".

Pink Floyd. Mesmerizing, aren't they? Saw them back in 1988, and I saw spots for 2 days afterward.😊 Amazing light show. David Gilmour is one of the cleanest, most melodic, and amazing guitarists in the world, and he's an excellent singer.

Yup. From about 1:37 to 2:30, they were motionless -- I had to look for eye blinks to make sure my WiFi hadn't stalled the video. Both reviewers were displaying what I think of as "the Pink Floyd face." I'm a 67-yr-old bassist. Guy Pratt is the reason I have a fretless 5-string in my modest stable. Until "Pulse" came out, I'd always played it on a 4-string Fender. When I heard "Comfortably Numb" from "Pulse" for the first time, I got goosebumps from the opening Bm chord. I got to see Guy speak at a bassists' forum. He tells the story of bugging Gilmour to sell Pratt a 1962 Jazz Bass, the model with the stacked volume & tone pots, for as much as (while admittedly kinda hammered) $50,000. Gilmour kept turning him down, but apparently remembered Pratt's wish. When Pratt married Gilmour's daughter, that became a wedding gift, accompanied by a "Welcome to the family."

I was living in Los Angeles (arm pit of America) in 1979 when "The Wall" was released. The ONLY fond memory of that shithole was cruising the highways jammin to that song. I went through a cassette, two vinyl copies and two CD's since its release.
@MMFrye

Oh Dear. How do I say this without sounding mean? Run Like Hell is a doom and gloom song lyrically, but the lighting was at odds with the song's meaning. For me, it took something away from the experience. The instrumentation was phenomenal, as expected. I didn't like the extra singers doing the Run sequence - there were too many tones/colors to the sound. It was sparse in the original for a reason, it's supposed to freak you out and the backup singers created a warm feeling. I'd give this performance a seven mainly because it lacks the presence of Roger Waters but also because it became a spectacle instead of a vehicle for apprehension. Now, any band that tells you they want diversions from themselves so you appreciate their music for itself is full of shit. Musicians that love music want their creations to be appreciated and live on. But making yourself smaller just brings more attention to yourself. David Gilmour has one of the biggest egos in the music industry and he wants to be seen performing like a genius. The spotlight hit him at crucial moments of HIS performance. Run Like Hell is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs, but I think I like the recorded version better.

Andy & Alex Thanks for being civil and allowing my opinion whether you agree or not. 😀
@alanpeterson4939

Missy, The light show stuff was started by Syd Barrett. He did not want the spotlight or fame, and sometimes played with his back to the audience. He did not even want to be a rock star. He wanted to be an artist. The rest of the group(at least early on) did not want individual recognition, which is why they did not put their photos on albums. (Except for one when they were talked into it). There are early interviews where they explain this. Over time, Gilmour and Waters developed egos, but more at odds with each other. Although I hardly believe Gilmour’s ego is all “me, me, me” given he is about to auction off a couple hundred guitars and donate the proceeds to charity in a couple weeks.
@MMFrye
@MMFrye 5 лет назад
Alan Peterson People with colossal egos can also be charitable and nice. I’m saying that if you don’t want fame or the spotlight then don’t look for a recording contract. You can be a superb artist without performing live or selling millions of records. Van Gogh sold only one painting during his lifetime but he kept producing magnificent works of art. He did it because he wanted to create and express himself.

Yeah, folks don't realize this was a also a international pay per view event that year. I paid $50 for it having already seen the show live earlier that year. I didn't know if or when they were going to put out a VHS of it (1994 folks), so I wanted to record it. Of course my cable went out the night it was on. No joke!! The cable company was pretty good at immediately refunding everybody's money. But still, what a let down that night.

Pink Floyd takes you to another dimension!!!! I absolutely love how they have embraced technology and evolved. If you listen to some of their first and early obscure albums, you would not believe it is the same group. Definitely on my top favorites list along with The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath. I am 65 years old now but grew up in a very poor working class neighborhood. I can remember listening to music as a young person with good friends being something affordable and swapping albums of the time to enjoy. I still can geek out for hours with this pleasure.

@flubblert
@flubblert 5 лет назад
Let's face it... Vocally, this is inescapably a Roger Waters' song. Without his shrill fevered delivery - a voice I don't think I've ever heard anyone else successfully reproduce, the song is going to lose a little right out the gate. That being said, you got to remember where this song falls in the concert. It is the encore. The closing song. Which means the crowd (me and 60 thousand other floyd fans at Soldier Field in Chicago), is still standing there in varying degrees of shock from that incredible, amazing, stunning (insert own adjective here) "Comfortably Numb" performance that closed out the regular set list. Dilema... how do you top *THAT* for an encore? Your typical band probably wouldn't have tried. But this is Pink Floyd, with all the theatrics and extravagance that comes with, so you pull out all the stops and throw the kitchen sink at 'em and send them on their way. BTW, I'm pretty sure there were rockets being shot well into the night sky over Soldier Field and the lakefront; not just the stage fireworks you see here. They needed a knockout punch, and there it was. It was the concert version of a fireworks show grand finale. And when it was over, no one was missing Roger.

Especially when it's pouring rain through the concert as it did when I saw them in Oakland. In the late 80s. I was so freezing cold and wet and I did not give a shit. One of the best things I've ever seen or heard in my life.

Hey guys, great reaction. Sorrow from Pulse is also phenomenal. You might also want to check out Roger Waters doing Pigs, from Animals, live in Mexico 2016. 250,000 people in the crowd and a fantastic rendition of the classic track. Don't bother with it though if you are big Trump supporters as you might be offended haha.

According to Pratt, when he got the gig with Floyd Gilmour told him he knew Pratt could handle the bass parts but he needed someone who could do the vocal back and forth with him on "Run Like Hell" and Pratt had a good audition.

Those beautiful guitars that David Gilmour makes to sing are in the Christie's auction at the Rockefeller New York. You can visit the exhibition for free from the 14th June. Just need to reserve your time slot on 'David Gilmore guitar collection'. Would you believe i fly back to UK that day, but hope to squeeze it in. Andy, have you listened to Grantchester Meadows live yet from way back.

Andy - you are correct. Guy Pratt used to be married to the daughter of the late, great Richard Wright. He has played as a session musician with a wide range of artists on a lot of songs over the years. He got his start with PF when they asked him to tour with them on the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour in '87. While the Pulse version of Run Like Hell is Fantastic, I personally like the Delicate Sound of Thunder version slightly better (audio).

Regarding Floyd's deliberate anonymity, they were the only supergroup rock band in the 60's and 70's that were able to walk around London visiting pubs/clubs/restaurants etc. where nobody would recognise who they were. They considered that a huge advantage to their private lives of course. It all changed in later years mainly following the DSOTM release when questions were being asked by the press/public as to who the band actually were. What did they look like? After DSOTM, they could no longer hide who they were. This of course relates to their deliberate hiding on stage behind all the spectacular sets and light shows.

Hi Andy & Alex - can I please just recommend the following review of Floyd's 'On The Turning Away'? This particular song absolutely 'wows' the reviewer and is a wonderful review to a wonderful Floyd track. If Alex hasn't heard this track before, then best to not show it to him as you may wish to review it yourselves sometime in the future. I'm assuming Andy that you are familiar with it. But some folks are phony. And I'll just think you do Partake as I do. haha Check this out. I'm watching it for the 8th time. "Watch This if You Are on Drugs! - A Visual Psychedelic Experience of the Universe by Tommy Stone". It's a video that SEEMS timed to Pink Floyd's songs.

Loved this version! One suggestion. I think there is no need to rate songs with a number. Concentrate on musicianship, lyrics and reacting to the sounds.

@erick rosito We’re enjoying it, we really don’t take the rating too serious, it’s more for fun! 😁

Andy & Alex just a suggestion I kinda hate it when you rate one of my favorite songs lower than others. I think it would make your channel more appealing cause after all, what is really a 10 or a 5?

I saw Pink Floyd in 1988 when they came to Australia, they are the only band that I've seen live in concert where they sounded exactly give or take a small bit exactly like they did on the record of that song. No joke! Best band ever, spot on every time!

I saw them on the Pulse Tour at Western Springs in NZ and after what seem liked 10 minutes, we waited for a long time, we started leaving the concert and as we were walking up the hill they started playing this. Best encore ever

Run Like Hell...Good song. I know you guys have been reviewing some 70's/80's music (Rush, Boston, etc.)...how about one from the 60's? Here is, IMO, a very good selection from the mid-60's (I challenge you to listen to this and not move as it plays.) It's called "Any way you want it" from the Dave Clark Five.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q24J1JDFBww.html It's short, less than three minutes, as many songs from that time were. Enjoy!

If you want to see a PLANE crash in it. Check out the "ON TH RUN". It actually has a plane come from one side of the place to the front where it crashes (behind the curtains.). When folks start up "TIME", they think they hear an explosion or bomb. It's a fuckin plane crash. I don't know where ya'll are, but I want to watch you do more, but take a couple of hits to really enjoy the show and if you think you've seen some good stuff, YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET.

There is another video (different camera angles) that shows the second drummer whaling away on the drums at the ending of this....that is cool. So good. "If they catch in the backseat trying to pick her locks /They're going to send you back to mother in a cardboard box/ You better RUN!"
