This was such an amazing track, we had to give it a 10/10 because honestly I don’t think there was anything we could find wrong with this song. Everything was so well thought out and executed! What other Tool songs should we check out? Let me know below! We’re going to have to explore more!!

@tee4222
@tee4222 5 лет назад
DANKIUS kind of, but that a little overstated. if you include the alternating bars of 5/8 and 7/8 and the alternating 6/8 and 7/8, by saying each is a meter change. But really, the meter doesn’t change until after the section and the alternating parts can just be looked at as 12/8 and 13/8

ZackClaybrook - Amen to that. While we're tossing out Tool cuts to listen to, I suggest a cover they did -- No Quarter by Zep. The original is, what, 7 minutes and change? Tool's version is a cover that's 4 minutes longer. They slightly change the lyrics in places, add a fast-paced section at the end, it absolutely kicks ass.

Read an article....think it was Buzzfeed...a few months ago that tried to rank the best to worst Tool songs. It was after reading that I realized the person who wrote it was either: 1: An idiot 2: Playing a really early April Fools joke. Reason being, there are no BAD TOOL songs. Yes, there are some that are better than others of course, but I can make an argument for something to like about every single song in their catalog. There is not another band on Earth I can say that about. NIN is close, but I do actually dislike 2 of their songs.

Watching people try to groove to a Tool track on their first listen is genuinely hilarious 😂. I take for granted I know the rhythm like the back of my hand. The main riff is 5/8 and 7/8 alternating, when the first change happens, that riff is 6/8 and 7/8 alternating. Really though I just nod to the pulse and accept that sometimes the accent is on the up beat and sometimes on the down beat.

I dont know why everyone wants a reaction to salival version. Yeah, it has an awesome groove but I feel like people need to hear the original first to understand the power in that song. It's like when I watch someone react to tool who is unfamiliar and they react to an official video... I dont even watch those anymore because I know the person has no chance in hell of appreciating the music for what it is. The original Pushit is such a powerful song and so packed with raw emotion. I feel like the Salival version is so appreciated by fans (like myself, yes I love that song) because we already have the context of the original.

Tool I believe has multiple time signatures going on at once between the drums, bass and guitar and then there is Maynard's lyrics that just tie it together. But there are multiple time sigs going on at the same time. It like layers over really well. Just my take. Found Tool in the mid to late 90's. I'm 50 now and just went to see them live a month ago. They are my tops. If you want to really get the feel, binge a complete album. You won't regret it. Also if you like Tool, give "A Perfect Circle" a try. You'll like them as well. It's one of Maynard's (lead singer TooL) side bands and they are legit. Pucifer isn't bad either.

Alex and Andy, as a Gen X’er who grew up when Grunge took over Hair Metal, you’ve actually stumbled on to the very finest our generation has to offer, not that this is Grunge. Tool is their own genre, there’s no one like them thus far. They don’t ever release an album that every song doesnt’ completely move them firstly, and then their fans. Go through their album list bottom to top and see if you don’t feel it too!!! I could just say review any song but please review Lateralus and check out the math equation that the time and syllables match cup with the complex mathematical equation called Fibonacci which mirrors both biological organisms and the free market. Beyond that know that they didn’t do this for their hubris but rather to point you away from it. These are some songs to review: Jimmy ; Jambi; Rosetta Stoned but you must play the intro ( the “song” before it )and show the lyrics think (alien abduction); Right in two; Disposition; Flood.

Great reaction guys! The whole song is badass, glad you liked the bass intro. Think about it, this song uses the bass line to introduce the melody -- and keeps the melody throughout. _And_ the time sig changes, _and_ the incredible competence of the whole band. Good choice. Welcome aboard.

On Schism's time signature: "The band has referred to the time signature as 6.5/8. Although many composers would use 13/16 instead, 6.5/8 is still a valid fractional time signature. The song begins with two bars of 5/4, followed by one bar of 4/4, followed by bars of alternating 5/8 and 7/8, until the first interlude, which consists of alternating bars of 6/8 and 7/8. The following verse exhibits a similar pattern to the first, alternating bars of 5/8 and 7/8. The next section is bars of 6/4 followed by one bar of 11/8. This takes the song back into alternating 5/8 and 7/8. Another 6/8 and 7/8 section follows, and after this the song goes into repeating 7/8 bars. The middle section is subsequently introduced, consisting of three bars of 6/8, one bar of 3/8, and one bar of 3/4 repeating several times. At one point it interrupts with two bars of 6/8 followed by a bar of 4/8, twice. A bar of 5/8 is played before the meter switches back to 6/8 for two bars and 2/4 for one bar. This repeats, setting up another section: two bars of 9/8 followed by a bar of 10/8, that pattern again, and then a single bar of 9/8 followed by alternating bars of 6/8 and 7/8. The outro has alternating bars of 5/8 and 7/8, ending with alternating 6/8, 2/8 that one could interpret as pulsing with a 4/4 feel."

I have been listening to TooL for over 25 years now and would have to recommend Laterallus and have the lyrics up when you do. That song has a very specific structure that you two would love and be inspired by how he worked metaphysics, mathmatics, music, and spirituality into the song. But please check out his two other bands also... A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. Both are VERY unique and show a different kind of Maynard James Keenan in each.

Since every fanboy is gonna suggest songs off of the later albums, I'll suggest you look in to something off of Opiate or Undertow. It's less mature, but the magic is already there. As for songs you could choose pretty much any track, do at least a couple, maybe Hush or Opiate, 4°, Swamp song, Bottom or Prison Sex. It doesn't really matter, but you'd get a somewhat different insight and appreciation. Cheers!

One of the O'Keefe kids did some Schism on piano. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sg9jV5s8qVQ.html I think just about all the songs that last take more than one listen to get started on. And then they just go on and on, and stay almost ever-fresh (unless you overplay them like I'm inclined to overplay Cardiacs - then from time to time you need a total rest from the wonder). There are some beautiful songs that last no longer than a Namaqualand Daisy (which is a daisy from a desert area south of Namibia called Namaqualand, where in some years everything blossoms for a day on one day of the year - actually a bit longer, but it's more fun to exaggerate.) They're beautiful songs; it's just that we grow tired of them. (Which buggers up the simile, since Namaqualand Daisies never stick around long enough for anyone to tire of them.) And then the radio station keeps playing them over and over again - apparently because they get bribed to do this - and we learn to hate the lovely song, even.

They don’t record over a click track therefore the song is a living breathing thing. Music before 2000 was more human like and not formulaic the way a lot of pop music of today is. Of course Tool is also an exception in using multiple time changes in one song.

Gotta say Tool, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, and just about anything Maynard is attached to is just... Back in the old days he'd be a philosopher but you know like the type that owned land and served his people in battle. The guy is nuts, Right in Two is a great introductory Tool song. Potions for Puscifer. Judith for APC. Passenger he did with the Deftones. Bring me the Disco King with David Bowie. Nerd out done. It seems goofy to watch people enjoy music but it feels good.
