In Part 1 of this video I am starting, (from scratch) a new Colonial Herb and Bulb Garden. In the second part of this video, we will trace the History of tea in Colonial America, set a beautiful Early American Tea table and test out 3 of the teas that were dumped in Boston Harbor in 1773 during the Boston Tea party.
A correction: John Adams and Samuel Adams were cousins, not brothers.
I have linked some of the teas and artwork here:
"Solstice Tea Traders; "Boston tea Party Sampler" www.amazon.com
Oliver Pluff historic tea: www.oliverpluff.com
"America!" Limited edition art Print: www.jerilanders.com/art
The Teacups and Saucers are made by Johnson Brothers of England, " Colonial Overhang"
The books can be purchased on Amazon as used books, I see many available:
"Herbs" by Emelie Tolley and "The Gardens of Colonial Williamsburg"

Jeri, thank you ever so much for bringing us along on this Colonial tea party...or should I say ceremony. Something about your incorporation of antiques, history, and story telling, makes it very honorable. You have such a refined aesthetic, that almost anything you present in your videos is elevated into a sensory experience. When it's touring your garden, I can almost feel the sunlight on my shoulders or early morning mist rising from the pathways. The barnyard sounds and your friendly conversational narration makes it feel like we're neighbors...and we share the same love for nature's gifts. Being invited to enjoy a cup of tea with you has been such a pleasurable treat today, and I just want you to know that I don't take it for granted. Again, thank you!!!!! Sharon

Seeing you toast your bread over the fire brought back memories of living in England with my Grandfather. We toasted our delicious English bread with toasting forks and smeared it with real butter , marmite and cress. Thanks so much for bringing back such sweet memories! Love your videos and look forward to every one!❤️

Such a lovely cosy tea Thankyou,,l have a few vintage handmade Christmas decorations ,they’re square blocks of wood painted to look like tea chests with the Union Jack and destination Boston Harbour, on them ,l got them from a thrift shop when l first moved to the States from England nearly 30 years ago,Once l also bought a “tea tile “it was supposedly a way of bringing tea into the U S secretly.The tea was made into an embossed thick “wall tile “,you broke a piece off and it would dissolve in hot water,tea done, x

Jeri great history lesson. I have the entire set of dishes even the tea pot like yours. It belonged to my beautiful Mother. I still remember when she bought it from Sears. I love how you arranged your dry flowers. I have learned so much from your videos. People have always told me my home feels very cozy to them but, I felt something was missing. Through your videos I have learned to hang the right grouping of pictures together. Also how to layer quilts and pillows on my couches. I am having a great time experimenting. I can truly say, I now feel great about my home. I also got inspired to start cleaning my garden now that, the sun is out more often. Have a wonderful weekend.

I wondered if you have ever done research on what type of teaspoons were used by the colonists. I grew up with a British background and our teaspoons were tiny compared to American teaspoons. We each had a teaspoon that belonged to us. Each one had a different design at the top of the handle and that is how we knew what teaspoon belonged to who. Our tea cup and teaspoon would be set out for the whole day and we always knew whose was whose by the design on the teaspoon. I noticed you used what looked like a regular size American teaspoon today. I am just curious to know if the Colonists used a different kind of teaspoon. Thank you and I really enjoy all your videos. So lovely and calming. Also bring back memories from my childhood. God bless you!

What a quaint and lovely custom you had. My friends made much of the silverware and pewter used in the series "John Adams", and all the teaspoons were of normal size, in fact many were even larger. I have some of their spoons and use them on special occasions.

Jeri Landers of Hopalong Hollow Thank you so much for your reply. I’m really surprised they used such big sized spoons! Very interesting! My mother is actually from Holland and my Dad from England. Thank you for your wonderful relaxing videos. My sister and I love teas and I just sent her some Soltice teas in little heart shaped tins for her February 3 birthday.

My mother collected China cup and saucer sets and when she passed I let each one of my four daughters choose a set as a memory..... You’ve inspired me to use my bricks that I insisted on keeping when we tore a unusable fire chimney out. I want to make a medicinal flower garden.

Thank you for this! I just love your teas!!!💗 Really need to find myself one of those apple peeler/corer/slicers!🍏🍎 After your last tea I looked up your website & was so really impressed with your art, work & books! So adorable & so incredibly detailed! Thank you for showing us your workshop. I learned to sew on an old Singer just like that from my Grandmother - so that brought back so many precious memories. She so used to let me go through all her colors of threads & I would always just be mesmerized. Btw...I absolutely adore your little Foxes!😍 But I suppose as a Fox myself I must!😆🦊

That really cool apple slicer is from the 1940's, it works so beautifully! I learned to sew on my moms Singer Featherweight and would spend many hours looking through her button and notions box., just like you did. I have a Featherweight Singer in my "other" workroom and use it more often that this Redeye SInger.

@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow I think the video skipped ahead on me & left my comment on the wrong tea vid. But i really enjoyed this colonial tea one too & your garden planning. I plannted several bulbs last Fall myself (all of which are coming up so early this year!😲) & I also love drawing out & journaling my garden beds!

I enjoyed your herb garden planning so much. There is tremendous inspiration to be found in any of the books written by the late Adelma Grenier Simmons, too . Her herb gardens in Connecticut were absolutely amazing.

oh i loved how you made coffee! I adore your coffee mug with the dog- Each video i watch I pretend to visit and sit awhile.... the wooden doll reminds me of Hitty :) --- My dolls are all wanting a tea party now !
@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow
@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow 4 года назад
That little wooden doll is a Wooden Penny doll, and is exactly what Hitty would have been. This doll is from the 1860 in her handmade original dress, sweet! The cup with the dog is something I bought in an import shop.. made in England, but I cannot read the trademark clearly.

A lot of work but how satisfying. I assume it must be warm enough to plant. Here, in Colorado , weather is warn but you know how that goes. Warm one minute and a snow storm the next! Love your channel.

Enjoy the history lesson while learning about the different teas. I could almost taste all the goodies while thinking how your garden will look once it’s in bloom. That’s a lot of hard work that’ll bring you much joy.
