Before you ask! If you are using drone footage shot in a standard picture profile (not d-cinelike or d-log) then you can just skip the "CST" step I was taking to "make the footage look like normal" on each clip. You can just do the film look (if you want) and the grade.

Love your videos and so happy you are using a mini 3 pro since that's what I have as well haha I switched to Resolve after watching your videos. One problem I had with some practice footage I shot was I had it in pro with the D cinelike. With the changing light conditions, part of the footage was very under exposed and I couldn't correct without sacrificing the rest. Do you leave yours in auto with changing light conditions or manually adjust while shooting? Thanks!!
Yes these long from videos of colour grading is my kind of jam and ALSO the fact that you spoke out of most colour grading professional on yt that they only gade one clip and you mached 4 clips is soooo damm true
This was really great. I feel like it is often hard to deal with these small sensor stuff. I don't have a drone yet, but I am gonna try these tricks with my action cam which always looks bad to me when I try to incorporate it into my stuff filmed with my a7IV. Thanks!
I cannot explain how much I learned from this video! Coming from Vegas Pro to DaVinci is a learning curve. But by just seeing all the new possibilities I get excited!

Thank you so much for the break down process! I have watched your video of "Resolve Color Grading Process" & "Color Grading Process for a FULL SCENE ". It's mostly very clearly! Just one thing I feel like I do not quite get it and wanna know how does it work: How exactly to determine the sequence of the nodes, which goes first and which goes after? For example why is it not putting the "CST/prelog" (that turn-log-into-normal-look node) before everything and all others after that, but instead putting the "Grade/white balance" as the very first? Excuse me if it sounds really stupid🙇♂I am completely new to Davinci Resolve, actually video editing in general. And huge thank you for all of your content!
one of the best out here for simple stuff...lets say simple :P....out of curiosity since i learned about the color space transform i stopped using cinematch and as i see you have it installed ....are you using it to match footage? or not anymore ? thanks for the nice tutorials mate
I love cinematch. I actually use it to do my color space transform most of the time as well. But I try to use the tools that everyone has instead. I do end up using it to match footage too, but mostly between my sony cameras which aren't too far off to begin with. Long story short, I actually prefer CM over CST most times.

Bought my first Drone about a month ago (mini pro 4) hooked into Capcut about a month ago. Might try DaVinci Resolve but I'm going to call it DaVinci Roleplay cuz I have no idea what I'm doing! lol
What I dont understand. You have a CST node but you dont use the Color Space Transform on that? And why you have the Grade Node at first? I guess the first node should always be the real CST and then you can manipulate it. Or am I wrong?
Great question! The CST node is just a name I use to perform a specific function. Taking the footage from whatever picture profile and transforming it into a "normal" rec709 look. Unfortunately, the color space transform plugin doesn't have a D-cinelike input option so it's useless for this footage. When I grade my Sony SLOG3 footage, I actually do use the color space transform plugin. So in this case I'm kind of doing a manual version of a color space transform... it's not really changing color spaces, but it's serving the same function. As for when you do things in the grade, doing some of the basic exposure, contrast, and color balance before the CST is kind of like correcting the shot in camera then the CST node reacts to that as if it were the actual straight out of camera image. Hopefully that makes sense!
Hey! I just wondering, but do you know of a way to make the free version of Davinci Resolve be able to read the D-cinelike file? The D-cinelike videos I took don't show up on the free version Davinci Resolve. I use Windows if that makes a difference.

This isn't a helpful tutorial. You should be using CST to apply the CST effect, regardless if you're in D-Cinelike or D-Log - using the REC709 for D-Cinelike as the input, then putting it all into a Davinci Wide Intermediate color space to grade, before using another CST to bring it back out into REC709/Gamma 2.4. Do your corrections/exposure/balance before the first CST. You can say "each to their own" but there's a right way and a wrong way to do things.
I would rather avoid naming the node CST - it's very misleading. Neither is D-CInelike color space nor your operation does any transform. It's just using Rec. 709 on both ends ;)
