Hello my friends ✨ Today's the day! Here is my updated video on color and lighting. I think these tips are so much more useful than the ones in my video from 6 years ago. Let me know your thoughts and if you go through some of the same thought process that I do!

the most challenging thing about painting in colors, especially without a reference is not in the colors themselves but in the values, saturation, contrast, and lighting, at least that's what I struggle with
@asimian8500
@asimian8500 Год назад
If you're using digital techniques, you can convert the image to grayscale to help with values. However, the best way is to squint and see the values. It can be a little more challenging with colors, but realize that every color has a color range. For instance, yellow has the brightest value range whereas blue/red will have a darker value range.

Don't worry about saturation or chroma. Just understand that more chroma a color has, the more intense or "pure" it will be. In the real world, most colors have low chroma which pushes it into the grays. In fact grayish colors are the norm. If you use lower chroma colors for background and secondary objects and higher chroma for what you want to emphasize, you will go a long way.

It’s so refreshing hearing about the struggles fellow artists go through. I am by no means celebrating the struggles. Just grateful for the vulnerability and advice. You’re right, we do need to step away from the piece and sometimes draw from imagination a bit more. Thank you Sara 💕💕

First thing first: I love the end result of the painting, and congrats for sticking to it, I know it's not that easy. To me it happens A LOT, but I noticed that when I give myself the opportunity to keep on working, after a little break or even after several days, I come back to it with new eyes and a clearer vision of what is not working, and it's just SO SATISFYING when you are able to recognize your mistakes and fix them, I feel so much proud of my work than when everything goings smoothly. I'm also trying to distance from reference photos, because I noticed that I don't use them properly, I tend to "copy" a lot and it kills my creativity. This video, btw, was super helpful because I have a problem with non natural skin color and you gave me some really precious insight that I can't wait to apply in my own work. Thanks a lot! And amazing job, there!

It’s so great to see you revisiting and reflecting on old videos from all the way from 2016! 💖 I really appreciate your offer for Clip Studio Paint and all the work you’ve done with that program so far. I also think this digital painting is perfect for the holiday season with the colors you’ve chosen - frostbite blue sounds just about right!

did you miss the part where she said there might be some things that are anatomically incorrect?

@@riverstardis8745 The colour palette isn't realistic either. Of course she has a style, but still, it's the first thing I noticed when I saw the painting on Instagram. I don't mean to criticise her.
