This is kinda what Normani was going through in Fifth Harmony. They wanted Camila and Lauren the lighter toned Latinas upfront and getting all the shine.
ya and it's a shame cause firstly camila and lauren aren't even light skinned. they are white. pale ass white. and it's so ugly to see this behavior from every non-white girl group cause the media is pushing this narrative time and time again. the reason why these girl groups break up is because of the racial issue their management teams try to push and of course, they are young so they don't know any better.
Nowadays that’s definitely true but this was early 2000s back then people didn’t usually claim discrimination unless there was some evidence/validity to it Now people make up stories about racism everyday but it wasn’t like that back then
Well, a "darker-skinned girl" in a female group with lighter women of color experiencing discrimination because she is darker is just a microcosm of society as a whole. Even in today's generally more progressive culture, whenever black people mention racism they face today, a lot of white people are dismissive-- and often accuse them of pulling the race card. They want us to move on from slavery and segregation but they can't move on from the Holocaust or their racist Confederate relics from the American Civil War.
Itachi Uchiha No ... Naturi and Adrienne were by far the prettiest. Adrienne looked cute and Naturi is brown beauty , all natural. Keily is not pretty , she has an overbite , wide forehead wide mouth
I like that Adrienne apologized to her. They were teenagers and teens aren't perfect. She has matured into a true woman. As Naturi said, they were kids and the adults were the ones in charge of the situation. I am especially glad that Naturi didn't stop her grind and is now so successful! She truly deserves it!!!!
The way Adrianne started SHOUTING over Kiely when she said "She was in the group cuz she was dark skin!!!" 🤣🤣🤣 that girl has learned about damage control from a young age, not surprised she got on a talk show.
pajamagirl123 I don’t know these girls. But yes, you are right. She is was doing damage control in the first interview too when this Kiely girl was ready to fight on camera. By just watching these interviews, I feel Kiely must be having a major part in breaking up the group.
*"She wasn't kicked out because she was dark skin girl.... She was brought in the group because she was a dark skin girl."* That didn't make sound any better, it actually made it sound worse. Imagine saying that now, they would've been dragged on black twitter.
Light Skin Love there’s nothing wrong with making sure dark skin girls are represented. However it’s a issue when your singled out as just the token. It’s a issue as the dark skin girl you treated poorly than everyone else. but you are talented than everyone in the group however you don’t get the respect you deserved. It’s a issue when you get stereotyped because of your skin color. Management tried to pimp her out to get a rap group on tour because they thought she could “Mack” them. These are the issues that Naturi felt being the dark skin color in the group. She was used, kiely simply let the truth slip out
@Light Skin Love because she was used as a prop to make the mediocre singers stand out. Just like they did normani in fifth harmony to carry camilla weak vocals having ass.
@Shakur Wright Naturi sang most of the solo lines in a single named "Playas Gon Play" wheres Kiely got any which is the fact that quite disproves all these statements.
@@szacntrl exactly, it’s taught. That means that it’s gonna take time to unteach. I had no idea about racism when I was 14 because I’m a white person who grew up in a privileged home that did not teach it. 14 is still a child. You cannot expect children to unteach themselves. Now being outright mean to someone? Yeah, that’s old enough to know better. But using stereotypes and micro aggressions, that stuff is more intricately internalized, and it takes maturity and actual education to unlearn that shit. I had no idea what a micro aggression even was until I was 20 years old. That’s what it’s like growing up white in America, this country does not teach us about racism so we have to learn about it on our own when we are old enough to realize the depth that it goes.
If you notice in girl groups, the dark skinned one normally always has shorter hair. That shit is annoying too. The media is very meticulous in the way they MISREPRESENT us. That's just one small thing to be mentioned. But when they said she wasn't "marketable", it was never their intent to make her marketable. Mainstream knows the maturity of people (especially men) find longer hair more attractive (and marketable). There are definitely some sexy edgy looks with short hair, but they usually push that on the darker skinned woman when they are in a mainstream group. Even when you look at the majority of mainstream dark skinned models, they are usally ALWAYS bald or MASCULINE.... or oddly eccentric in style and makeup. So annoying.
RealTizzalk360 you mean , they chose not to grow their hair long , it takes longer for blacks to grow hair plus the media says we need relaxer and flat irons to appeal to the white man
They were managed poorly. The adults around them, didn't know how to do things. There's no reason they couldn't have been more successful. But I'm so glad Naturi and Adrienne were successful. Crazy bc Kiely seemed to be the most pressed about being a star and she clearly fizzled out after Cheetah Girls. I can totally see how her mom probably was the reason things went south.
For sure. If she was managing groups like Jodeci that were never really able to transition into the early 2000s music scene. Her mom was the problem as well.
Kiely is super problematic, she might be dealing with stuff but still she was always the root of the problem. She also had conflict with Raven Symone when she was in the Cheetah Girls that’s why Raven wasn’t in CG3 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️ she’s got issues
DeAundré Alderman Apparently Raven and Kiely were friends after the first Cheetah Girls but by the second one they were enemies and Kiely irked her to the point where Raven nearly beat her ass in Barcelona but she was stopped by her on-screen mom
Everyone is pointing the finger at Kiely when Naturi said out of her own mouth that THE RECORD LABEL pushed to have a Latina in the star front. Even if Kiely is problematic the REAL issue is these record labels. They are the ones causing the division. They STILL do it today.
@@YAHnetwork if colorism wasn't a problem in the industry Naturi would've gotten hella camera time and way more respect. Kiely is just a hating ass bitch. That doesn't excuse the record label though.
I remember this too but lil Kim has issues bc when she FIRST started rapping she was dark skinned. You can look back at her old photos & videos. She started lightening her skin bc she didn’t feel beautiful in her own skin.
Naturi skin looks like melting chocolate. She is absolutely gorgeous. Kiely thought she was better than Naturi. Adrienne and Kiely turned on their so called friend. Naturi definitely winning now.
"The REAL 3LW!" Was that introduction necessary Christina? They all did Naturi wrong. Kiely was an immature messy mess and was bout the least talented one.
That was a clip from the MTV game show "Wannabe" from back in the day that Christina Milian hosted. It was a show were fans dressed up as their favorite pop stars and whoever was the best won a big prize and performed last. That episode was actually a 3LW episode where trios of female fans of 3LW impersonated them & Kiely and Adrienne were the judges, along with Kiely's older sister Tse.
You know what, you can’t get mad at Adrianne, be mad at the music industry. She was used as well for her Puerto Rican sex appeal as a TEENAGER might I add and they pushed forward to show this racial stereotype, the spicy New York Puerto Rican that “every man wants”. That in itself is disgusting. As a Puerto Rican women, that issue has definitely caused a bunch of long lasting issues, from fetishization all the way to how people portray us. I honestly don’t think Adrianne had any malicious intent, she seemed really hurt that they weren’t friends anymore
Lightskinned black women are always the trouble makers and instigators but people always blame the dark woman and side with the lightskinned woman,in my expirience lightskinned women are bullies to dark women, but nobody talks about that
I think Keiley was soo obnoxious n annoying because, 1. she was 14. 2. Her sister/mom managed them. 3. Her role was supposed to be the "preppy valley/white girl". 4. She thought she was the Beyonce of 3LW. She really thought she was white, so she thought she was better than the 2 minorities. She loved the fact that she was pushed to the front without having to work as hard as the others, just cuz of her skin tone. This explains her behavior in Cheetah Girls. She felt Raven was competition n when Disney did to Raven what has always been done to her in 3LW, she didn't like it. She wanted the starpower n role Raven had.
But back then, that's how the industry was!! They're still like that!! But the dark skinned women and men are really pushing through!! And colorism is a plague in the Latino Community, sad!!
Adrienne should of talked every interview because she definitely did damage control in the first one🤦🏽♀️ big mouth keily did not need to air their business out like that.
Kiely was the least talented one but she was family with the people in power. Nobody ever wanted to be her when we would argue over who was who from the cheetah girls 😂 all that privilege really did get her nowhere.
@@ZumbawithDorothy dark skinned women, for centuries, have been going through it. although all black people suffer from racism, light skin people, due to the proximity to whiteness, have received some forms of privilege.
Everyone is ready to play “black” until it’s time to STAND up for the culture! In the end, Naturi WON honey & is still a beautiful queen. Kindly Kiely waiting on her sisters “promethis promethis” (I have a lisp too🤣🤣😂)
Keily wasn’t the only problem, but she benefited from the colorism and refused to hear otherwise because her family had power. And Adrienne, who of course isn’t Black, was probably less aware that there was a power dynamic that put Naturi at the bottom, she just new she got top because of the whole “Spicy Latina” concept and didn’t question anything that didn’t effect her. By the time for making statements came, Adrienne was able to deliver everything so eloquently because she actually believed all bs she said. But all that aside, we can’t exactly expect any of the girls of being to blame, they were teenagers and teens fight. The problem here is most teenaged squabbles don’t have enough power to result in life altering consequences. And most teenaged disagreements don’t have the validation of the music industry behind them. Adrienne wasn’t mature enough to realize she all power to change the situation for the better, Keily wasn’t mature enough to realize her actions weren’t warranted and the gravity of the consequences, and Naturi wasn’t mature enough to have to deal with the bull the industry put on dark skinned Black girls/women.
What I got from this is the manager and record label are the ones that created the whole race issue. Those girls were young as hell and just trying to be singers. It’s a goddamn shame all the way around. :/
Naturi is such a pretty name. Loved 3LW when we were teens back then. It makes me miss that time period so much. This channel helps bring it back, and discusses topics that NEEDED to be discussed way back then but weren't at the time.
Rewatching this and Keily's insecurities about her LACK OF TALENT ruined everything she had going. Beautiful girl with a sad soul. Proven in TWO GROUPS.
So sad that black women must suffer no matter where they are in the world. We are labelled all the worst things and our voices are never heard. So tragic
Girl they ain't ready. They can't see through the smoke screen. The only competition we are in is with each other. Meanwhile, the real fight remains at a standstill because they are to busy looking for the wrong the of validation.
Velvet Darkness There was a time I would full heartedly agree with you. But once I got to know educated, well traveled ppl, I learned that when we say things like this it tells everyone how ignorant we are because we only know one stereotype of blacks.
I know some people aren't saying this, but others said that Adrienne should have mediated the situation. But MANAGEMENT, the adults should've mediated the situation THEY caused between 3 teen girls. Adrienne was a teen also so she shouldn't have been expected to take care of the situation.
Keily is the daughter of a narcissist and has taken on the personality due to years of irreversible conditioning in her childhood. Idk if the narc is her mom or dad, but she exhibits the symptoms of someone who is or has been in a prolonged relationship with a narcissist. Break these generational curses: colorism, self hate, depression, systemic racism etc. Bc the future depends on it.
mii shii I agree. Naturi was my favourite. When I saw her sing in one episode of Power, I knew that Naturi still got it. And I thought that she was the best in Fame.
haha sounds like a bunch of jealousy to me and you know what? Jealousy racism makes any bitch ugly, must really suck for you considering you already are fugly ;)
No the cheetah girls were supposed to have a show on abc and Jessica was gonna have a part but they couldn’t do without raven and they got so busy with cheetah girls so they had got to busy with cheetah girls
Natauri clearly is the most talented of the 3, starring on Broadway to Power, Adrienne is doing a talk show, Kiely who has a family member who was there manager is no where to be found, just go to show the people you step on getting to the top, is the one who'll be laughing at you as you fall, right Kiely!!!
lol and they all had strong ass voices and weren’t trying to be mainstream. RNB In the 90’s valued talent over looks I would say late 90’s and early 2000’s is when the light skin only phase started. Love the 2000’s music but I would argue that was the most materialistic era when it came to hip hop and pop music
Shows how resilient a black woman can be. After alllll that, she still won. And didnt hold any malice on the final reunion. Now you wanna say that there was a problem with skin tone, but made it seem like she was trippin when she said it as a child. So sad, that type of trauma is hard to live through, im just happy she did ❤
i know im asking randomly but does someone know a method to log back into an Instagram account..? I somehow lost the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Achilles Gabriel Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Never knew it all went down like this. Naturi is a very beautiful woman and I’ve always been attracted to her skin tone. So heartbroken to know they treated her that way but at the same time, glad she was the one to make it to where she is today.
Kim Harden Correct me if I'm wrong but I always thought "Brown skin" was a medium shade in the black community. Now dark skinned women are being called brown skin women?
Fletcher09 Then what's a dark skin girl? I guess I always thought brown skin meant Stacy Dash before the skin bleaching, and Dark skin is Naomi Campbell and Lupita Nyong'o. Which are vastly different shades. But I see the definition has changed.
@Shea Holland Number 1, I’m a woman & definitely have my opinion about other women, PERIOD. Idgaf what color you are! Idk who tf you think you are 🤣 you’re on my comment with your own opinion about ME, telling me to go to Starbucks lmaooo because I’m white lmao (that sh*t don’t bother me, I love being white.) RU-vid won’t let me post what I REALLY wanna say. “Clout chasing” has nothing to do with it. Clout chasing on YT?! 🤣 Just keep that same energy when you find out the race of her husband you dumba*s. Get tf off my comment with your miserable racist a**.
In most interviews even when the group was together Kiely always wanted to be messy and talk petty about the situations. Adrienne at least tried to put a positive spin in the drama. Naturi kept it 💯 but spoke on things in a calm respectful manner. I never like Kiely anyway.
One thing about 3lw is that they still have alot of public interest despite being broken up for at least 10 years. Alot of girl groups from that time period such as dream never get talked about anymore
I think it helps that Adrienne and Naturi are still relevant in today's pop culture. I'm don't know about the third member. No shade. I just don't recall seeing anything about her in the news. That, coupled with things like the video were commenting under, helps keep the interest up. It introduces 3LW to a new generation, while keeping them in the minds of those of us who are old enough to remember their run.
Wow the Wendy Williams interview really made me upset because imagine a young 15 year old girl hearing she has to low in her music because she’s dark skinned
