There's the classic line serious gun owners and supporters of the Constitution find rather humorous: "I am a gun owner, but . . . . " Always ignore anything after the "but." :-) "I'm just tired of people using the 2A for their defense of gun ownership." That line takes "genius" to a new level, though, I have to admit. :-)

Dad gave me one years ago. It's stamped 22magnum on the barrel. I took it to the range. When I went to load the 22mags, they wouldn't fit. It turns out he was the second owner. The original owner didn't want to pay for magnum rounds so he got a LR cylinder and tossed the mag cylinder... Years later, I finally found a magnum cylinder for it...needed some fitting, but works very well now.

I am glad to see that cowboys and cowboy lovers still walk among us. I am glad I grew up when I did, in a simpler time. We didn’t play inside very much. We played cowboys or Army outside all the time. Devices, social media, the internet, and the times seem to have robbed today’s kids of the outside fun I had as a boy. That’s a cool SA Colt! Wish I had one. Glad you found it and showed it to us.

There have been quality issues with them, however the three I purchased were of very good quality. Heritage Rough Rider essentially is the Colt Scout. From what I understand Heritage somehow acquired the ability to use the Colt Scout patten . ❤️❤️❤️Makes sense when you see even to the Mag cylinder in the box. If that’s the case it’s comforting to have this piece of history still alive . A little better quality control from Heritage then essentially having a Colt Scout for a 100.00 to 200.00 dollars manufactured in present times is awesome.

I guess so it looked like the 1957 or so he could look like the Duke he had the holster and an early 1900 .22 Winchester pump he was one of the original urban cowboys! Anyway this 1965 has a hammer lock where you pull it one click and that locks the triger and keeps the hammer from hitting the firing pin if it we're dropped so you can carry six in it with out it being on a round. He paid $61.46 & that was with a box of ammo the gun cost $57.50 my how time's have changed!!

Well built for $ in traditional Bill Ruger style? Own a Heritage Rough Rider currently... 4-3/4" blued with both cylinders. Nice for $. Nothing like shooting .22s on late winter/early Spring day. It's a rough job ,firing promotional fire arms ,fire low cost ammo and to be respected by so many people. Shame on you ! Signed envious jack A. By the way I had a Storm Ruger 357 cal that I kept one cylinder empty as you advise ,great shooter with a fouri inch barrel. All attempts at humor aside, I truly appreciate your knowledge and the manor in whice you convey it thank you Sir. Lee

I have the one my dad bought in 1958. Still have the sales receipt. It is nickel finish with black grips. It was 50 dollars brand new.

Hi Hickok, wish Colt would make a cheap Colt 45 Peacemaker, maybe a express line like the Remington 870 did. Take Care!

Back in the day I owned a High Standard Double Nine. Aluminum Frame. Double and single action. .22 cal. I bought it for $50.00 in 1968. I was 18 years old. It was the first handgun first I ever purchased. Bought it at Target !!! Regret selling it.

It’s possible to say something nice about a .22, watch: “That’s a beautiful grip”

Had one of those about 30 years ago, even down to the Jay Scott stag grips. Great little .22, and like an idiot, I let it get away from me.

I inherited an East German copy of one of those, and it looks like the Colt was worth the extra $50 at the time.

Hey Hickok45, if you “is” a cowboy then how about riding in on a horse (or John) the next time.👍🏻

Indeed, '45 has the land, if I had the land, and the money, I'd have a horse or two. Instead I make do with visiting friends' horses.

@@southernbuck101georgia2 Some people "get" horses, others don't. They are amazing creatures, I've been blessed by being able to spend time in fields with 20 horses, watching them interact and having them come to me for attention was magical. There's nothing like having a 2,200 pound Belgian follow you around like a puppy to put the world's woes at bay.

Its nice to hear to you guys. Thanks for all the information. Ill just say there are some countries where its legal to own and carry a cap and ball, flintlock, or fuse, historical gun, designed before, for example, 1885 (or a replica of it) without any licence, you just have to be 18. In those countries (like mine) accidents which includes using this kind of a gun can be counted on one hands fingers, yearly. So, we have free access to firing guns and people still don't want to shoot each other... whoa, how that could be happening... ;)

The frame is made from ZAMAC. Short for Zinc, Aluminum, Magnesium, and Copper. I have a Nevada Centennial 1964. It was the 100 year celebration of Nevada statehood. It has nickel enhancements with two cyls. Another fun gun from Colt.

There were 3 frame materials used over the years. Aluminum was the first offered (F serial) then Zamia starting in 62 and finally steel (later Peacemaker and New Frontier models). I have a 66 F frame with the l22 mag cylinder that is always tucked into the pack when I’m hiking the trails here. Perfect camp pistol and very lightweight.

Mornin,Sir. Hard to imagine you sending a Colt Single action back. Ironically, that is the most recent firearm that followed me back home. Its the Buntline model with adjustable sights. And the traditional black, hard rubber grips

Imagine you inherit a Colt SAA 50 years from now. You letter it and find that it was shipped 'to Hickok 45 via Bud's Guns.' That would be awesome.

I have a Colt Frontier Scout that I bought new, and plan to never shoot it because I bought it as a collectors item. Colt made several commemorative versions, and mine is the California Bicentennial Scout. I'm afraid that it's value may have come down because of what CA has become, but since we are recalling the governor it's value may go up. I agree with you, Rugers are better made.
