I am a brass rat. The local club rules are you bust pick all your brass up when you are done shooting. No one does. I asked several directors on a workday if I can collect brass that was left. Basically if no one is on the range they said to take as much as I can. In the past year I have several hundred pounds. Now over tens of thousands of pieces I have seen some strange things. Worst was probably what I believe is 9mm luger fired in a 40 S&W. I find a bunch of that.

Fortunately, I was taught "Line Clearance" in the medical device industry. You clear the workspace of EVERYTHING and then bring out ONLY one product to be filled/labelled/packaged, &etc. So, if I'm working with .40, anything and everything else stays locked up. Plus, don't trust the boxed cartridges from any manufacturer. I have found, though rarely, a 9mm Parabellum in a factory-sealed .40 box.

I always enjoy a Buffalo's Outdoors video, and appreciate the message at the end too. I'm in my early 70's, and growing up in this great country, I never would have imagined the day would come that some of my fellow citizens would be eager to give up their own freedom, and to take mine away too, for a false feeling of security...

I first heard that saying that I close my videos with a few years ago and it really struck a chord with me because like you I see so many people just ready and willing to throw away what few liberties they have left in the name of the greater good. A buddy of mine fell on hard times and needed some money, he was gonna take a gun to a pawnshop, but instead i loaned him the money and held the gun so he wouldnt owe no intrest of deal with no bullcrap.. It was a grey ruger american compact 45.. i didnt own a 45 anymore but i had some reloads i bought from a gun show years ago, so i figured id shoot itna few times and see if i liked it. I really liked the looks and feel of the gun, and was thinking about buying one just like it.. I was on the second mag and noticed a weird pop... the shell didnt eject, and when i ejected it, i noticed it was a 40 sw case bulged and split.. Shocked me, but didnt cause any damage.. needless to say, i went thru the bag and found 1 more 40 round mixed in... I ended up keeping the gun because the dude screwed me on the money lol.. so i got a ruger american 45 for 300 bucks.

Last time i was at an indoor range the man and woman to my right would fire a shot then screw around a bit then fire another repeatedly. Turned out they were firing .380 from a 9mm basic vanilla glock... the case mouths had splits and they kept getting stove pipes. They hit the paper straight and i didnt nottice any keyholes but again that was the last time i was at an indoor range maybe 6 years ago 🤣 i like my 10 acres
@MrTruckerf
@MrTruckerf 8 месяцев назад
.380 and 9mm use the same diameter bullets. The .380 ACP is also known as the 9 mm short or Corto. I could never get it to work because they head space on the case mouth so the 380 goes too deep in the chamber for the firing pin to hit it. I thought that the extractor would hold it but it didn't. The gun used was a Sig Sauer P226.

The only real danger I can see is that the bullet isn't centered when it hits the cone and you might get some shaving of the bullet. That shaving could come out of the cylinder gap as well.
@michaeldoe4805
@michaeldoe4805 8 месяцев назад
I would guess the 17 bullet is so slender and long especially with that polymer tip, it might never get the chance to wiggle too much between the cylinder throat and the forcing cone. Just not enough room. But if that polymer tip gets knocked off it may even get jammed into the cylinder gap

In an end of the world scenario; If you had a .17 HMR firearm and only .22 WMR ammo, you are SOL, but if you have a .22 WMR firearm and only .17 HMR ammo, you are limited, but still capable. I guess another question is, or should be - Will .22 LR/L/S fire from a .22 WMR firearm? The obvious answer should be NO - but, Do we know? It seems there is another issue here for "End of the World scenario". If I can reload, and my 17 HMR cases will be fire-formed into .22 WMR; Should I even need reloading equipment for the .17 HMR? I really don't want to be dragging around a .17 HMR firearm just waiting for ammo to show up when I can use my .22 WMR to shoot off any .17 HMR ammo, and reload it as .22 WMR. Where am I going to find .17 HMR bullets? Seriously, .22 WMR "can be" reloaded with .223/5.56 bullets. I've been struggling with the choice of buying the .22 LR, or the .22 WMR reloading kits. I think my question may be answered with this video. I can't find bullets, or molds, for reloading .22 LR - ANYWHERE. (other than the bullet molds that come with the .22 LR reloading kit) Of course that doesn't actually answer my question of "which" .22 reloading kit to buy, because I can't reload .22 LR without that specific kit. It does open up the possibilities that I can fire .17 HMR and reload it with .22 WMR. So I'm back to the same issue, I have to buy BOTH the .22 LR, AND the .22 WMR reloading kits. DAMN. Anyway, thank you for the video!

Can it kill zombies though, and if so... how many? Too many questions left unanswered. Glad it didn't break anything :)

Color me SHOCKED. I really expected 0 accuracy and 0 velocity. Will it work? Sort of. Is it a plan A, B, or C? No. But knowing that as a last ditch effort in mad max world, knowing you can put a little hurt on something at bad breath distance is pretty cool in my book.

Try 357vsig in a 40 sw. Worst i saw was a 30 carbine round fired in a 556 mini 14. Ruined the gun. Barrel held but everything else, reciever ,op rod etc was Ruined.

Buffalo have you ever fired .243 Winchester or 7mm-08 out of a 308 Winchester barrel? Heard a guy talking about doing it while in a conversation at a gun store about 30 or 35 years ago. Fire forming brass probably because the 243 and 7 are essentially just necked down from the 308 Winchester parent cartridge. At the same time he was talking about making .45 cal. pistol brass from his old 308 brass. I have never done this but by the measurements and eye balling, sure looks like it would work.

I once saw an episode of Cops in which an officer took a long-barreled German revolver from a suspect. It was loaded with bottlenecked cartridges. I assumed they were .17 caliber. Revolvers in 17 HMR are somewhat unusual, so I figured it was misloaded. Why, since .22 Magnum ammo is much more common than .17. If it was the mismatch, I wonder if the suspect had ever fired it that way.

Guy at the range , was shooting his lever gun...couldnt hit the side of a barn...and lots of smoke coming out of the action. He asked me to try it, I looked at the rifle...44 mag ...looked at the ammo...30-30 winchester. The 30-30 was there behind him , leaning in the rifle stand...he mixed up the ammo sometime during setup.

One time I tried to shoot HSM 325 grain bear load 45LC ammo out of a Taurus Judge and I nearly blew the revolver apart! It felt like it was exploding in my hand! 😳😬 😮‍💨😅

3.5" 12ga. shells will fit in a 3" chamber but I'm kinda on the fence about actually "pulling the trigger" so to speak. If anything I think it would just make the spent cartridge difficult to extract.

I accidentally loaded a 44-40 round in my .45 Colt lever gun the other day. It cycled through and chambered. When fired its velocity was 670fps. That’s what drew a red flag.

There’s nothing particularly unsafe about doing this- I will refrain from commenting on how sensible it is. It’s not a lot different from the guy here on YT who shoots .50 BMG in a shotgun. Of course the normal operating pressures of .50 BMG would shatter any shotgun ever made, but upon being fired in a shotgun, the case expands to the chamber wall, allowing most of the powder gases to flow around the smaller diameter projectile. So it is with shooting .17 in a .22 chamber. QED.

Cool video. I gave a .17 rifle, but I recommend a little more fire power, just in case THE SHTF.

Had a guy ask me to look at a little rifle he’d bought for his son, a Rossi 22LR/410 combo. Only it wasn’t a 22, it was a 17 HMR that he shot a 22 in and the bullet was stuck in the barrel. I managed to get the slug out from the muzzle end without damaging the crown or the rifling and he was good to go. Offered to trade his 17/410 combo for a 22/410 that I had since that was what he had wanted to begin with. Nope, he wanted to keep it.

I've fired a number of 22Rf out of 22 mag chambers with the results being almost 100% split cases, and the possibility of gas being blown back at the shooter. Accuracy was marginally better than what you got because the difference in bore diameter was much closer. Firing a round of anything through an larger caliber bore is unadvised. Not that a great danger exists to the shooter or gun, but the lack of containment prohibits to round from developing the pressures necessary to achieve good performance. That's why some guntube shooters like Edward Sarkissian and Demo ranch can fire 50BMG out of 12 guage shotguns with no damage to themselves or the guns.

I've actually done this to see what happens and it just straightens out the case. It actually still sounds pretty loud but I doubt it's gaining much velocity and very inaccurate. NOTE- I would never do this with a centerfire rifle bullet like 223 in a 300 blackout or something similar even though it's probably not going to blow the gun up

Great video. I never did it myself, but it had crossed my mind just to see the results. So what is the fps out of that gun with 22WMR? I'm curious how THAT compares.

I’ve got a pellet gun that’s “supposed” to have a higher velocity than that!😂 I’m with you…NOT a good idea.

i wouldn't try it. I'm thinking pressure has to go somewhere & brass will form somehow. I'm thinking if one had 17 hmr ammo one would have gun maybe.
