The Colt Model 1905 is the first sidearm ever to use the .45 ACP cartridge. Thus, an important piece for collectors of 1911 pistols, U.S. military arms, or early semi-automatic Colt pistols. A bit less recognized than its earlier and later counterparts, the Colt Model 1905 is an critical step in the evolution of the M1911. It is also a fascinating mix of characteristics of early Colts that allow us to see past and future designs in a single pistol.

This was neat to see some of this stuff. One critique I'd make as a viewer is that the radical guitar riffs are a bit distracting. I don't know if anyone thought so. Something more ambient and plucky might fit better.

I have one given to me by my great Uncle he bought it in 1907 still have the holster and a few magazines he bought with it. It’s in very good condition with light holster wear and a like new bore. Shoots better than almost anything else I have .

My Dad owned a 1905 and told me the original cartridges were loaded with 200 grain full patch bullets and were quite a bit milder than the .45 acp loads we know today. The modern 230 grain loads are well known for cracking frames and breaking front locking wedges so handload only or better yet, just don't shoot the pistol unless you really know the gun and how to deal with the idiosyncrasies. Those 200gr FMJ RN original loads clocked right around 900-910 fps. The eventual 230gr FMJ RN is said to have clocked at ~810 (though some sources cite as high as 850). However, that change took place during the lifespan of the Model 1905 and no source I've seen yet documents a change that modified the pistols for a "hotter" round. That said, the barrel wedge was a weak point of the gun and it certainly wouldn't hurt anything to put some lighter loads (provided they cycle) through a collectible if someone was determined to shoot it.

@@RockIslandAuctionCompany I must admit I never personally shot the gun, only handled it. My Dad did occasionally shoot it and I know he used his own handloads when he did. It was still in good shape last time I saw it and subsequently and somewhat mysteriously it disappeared after my Mom died and Dad was placed in a nursing home. No idea where the pistol is now and not too happy about it.

Have a Colt 45ACP the frame is stamped 1896. patent dates are Apr 20 1897 Sept 9 1902 Dec 10 1905 What would the range of value be? Gun is in operational condition but has not been been fired. Was inspected by a gunsmith who gave it the oky doky
