I have a 1903 colt that my grandfather carried with him as a boy wandering through the mountains of Northern California while fishing and hunting. He was 10 through 12 years old. Crazy what people could trust their kids with.

The front wedge is a weakness in the early design. Never accidentally shoot 38 super through these old guns.
@jeffhreid
@jeffhreid 3 года назад
Would 38 super even chamber in them? For 38 S&W to 38 special to .357 magnum the cartridge case was lengthened each time to prevent over pressure situations. Surprised if they didn’t do something like that for 38 ACP and 38 super

.38ACP & .38 Super are the same cartridge, but the Super is loaded hotter, so yes both will fit into these pistols......

When I was in the Navy in the 1960's and 70's, the Navy had the General Store Keeper title, even locations on the ships where supplies were held used names like "Forward GSK". Quartermaster was an Army/Airforce term. Beautiful guns, thanks for showing them Tom.

Your research and historical knowledge is the best. Seeing these weapons and hearing your comments is a special treat. I would like for you to comment on a value for the weapons you show such as these. I know that can change but even a ball park value would be informative. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for you, family, and crew at Legacy. Respects sent. p.s. I was shown a Luger collected by an Omaha beach veteran. He and some other GI’s found a canvas covered trailer full of boxed Lugers in the hedgerow area of Normandy. The one he had was the infantry model. It was factory new and he had never fired it. He owned a Wester Auto store and kept it in the safe. 👍🇺🇸

Thank you for showing these Colts. I'm another one who was taught my ABC's as a youngster -- "Always buy Colts." Beautiful pistols.

As a retired gas passer who has accumulated a modest, by Texas standards, firearm collection, I stand in awe of your expertise and presentation of these guns. I am lusting after a P38 and a nickel plated Colt 1911 in "El Chapo" silver grips in .38 Super. (Ever been to Collector's Firearms in Houston, TX?)

That 1905 pistol, holster, stock rig is extra nice.

I think Tom would probably describe me as an antique with my externals and internals showing obvious signs of wear (my oldest stent is now 15), but still functional. Overpriced to the average buyer, but considered a bargain by a select few.

That’s a very cool holster/stock! Never would have known. Love unique stuff like that.

The finish on these reminds me of polished Hematite stone. I have a 1903 made in 1918 with almost 100% of the original finish that looks like these; almost like looking into a smokey mirror. Just beautiful...

Thank you so much for the history lesson and sharing the rich history of these weapons. I love the history and the engineering developments. Do you realize how blessed you are? You are living my dream! Merry Christmas! Keep up the good work!

Colt Letter: Nope. The US Navy "Quartermaster" is the guy who steers at ship or, traditionally, is 2nd in command on the bridge. The Quartermaster Corps in the US Army handles supply logistics. The USN guy that takes care of supplies is, and this was an actual spec rating until a few years ago, called a "Storekeeper." Great vid by the way.

Beautiful pistols. The bluing must have been amazing when they were new. 👍🏼

I bought a refinished 1918 'black army' that everyone thought was nickel plated due to the reflectiveness in the photo listing. Fortunately (for me) I realized it had been refinished in the original 'Gas" or 'Carbon' blue with a high polish and would not take a good picture without mirroring the light. Niter blue was reserved for small parts like safeties, slide locks, grip screws, pins, triggers and hammers but wore so poorly that they stopped using it.

Hollywood originally used 1905 model as a stand in for the 1911 because they found it easier to make into a repeater using blanks.

Great video on some very great guns. It’s good to see you guys doing well. I’ve noticed over the years you get higher and higher end guns and it’s attributed to your success. I’ve enjoyed the guns I’ve purchased from you for sure. The 1905 holster was very cool. I’ve Never seen one.

You don't see the old Colt finishes anymore because the early bluing formulations produced toxic fumes and the workers kept dying, so Colt changed to a less deadly and less attractive finish as a way of preserving the employees.

The hammer vs hammerless "1903" examples gotta be different designs. One has a wedge and one doesn't.
@LegacyCollectibles
@LegacyCollectibles 3 года назад
Clearly the 1903 hammerless was the better design as they made 1/2 million of those over the next 60-70 years.

The 1903 pocket hammerless still has a hammer , it’s just concealed in the slide. The hammer cannot be actuated except by racking the slide

Another great video thank you. Talking about Colt bluing I have several colt pistols that have such beautiful bluing that I’m dissuaded to use them. My 1903 hammerless 32 ACP with walnut stocks has a beautiful finish on it. Even my later Colt Government 380 is beautifully finished. My favorite revolver that I own is an early model Colt Python 6 in. I love shooting it but uncomfortable about it because of the beautiful bluing it has. However I’m confused over one beautiful 1911 45 ACP I have that has a beautiful bluing the kind you can almost see through but it’s made by Springfield Armory and I nor anyone I’ve met has ever seen one with that finish.

Just discovered your channel and I very much like your videos. One piece of advice is get a dark background instead of a white for the closeups of the firearms. It helps us see colors and details much better. Keep up the good work.

How does one reproduce a blue like that?
@ncc8327

The 1903 wasn’t made in 1905. Those first types had a non-built in barrel bushing. Given you have a 6 digit serial number in your hands it was around 1919.

Why have a pistol and not wear it? U can't shoot and or otherwise enjoy it's value. It's as if the firearm means nothing at all. I don't understand.
