We got in a nice spread of Colt Pythons! I wanted to use the opportunity to go over their history and development. Thanks for watching!

I may not have been able to get an original python but boy did I get the 2020 python as soon as I could have and I don't regret it

Around 1988 I traded a Smith model 10 and a few dollars for a heavily modified Python. The bull barrel, bobbed hammer, and trigger job subtracted from the value which made it only slightly more valuable than a model 10, but filled my need for an extremely fast and accurate USPSA race gun. I competed with it for 3 years and outgunned many Smith 45's with their full moon clips and major scoring advantage. The reloads with full moons were twice as fast as speedloaders so I tried to compete with a Smith model 25, but just couldn't handle that heavy trigger. I took the Python to a gun show and offered it for sale about 8 or 9 years ago, but had no takers that day. By the next day I had come to my senses. I don't think my grandson is interested so it will probably be offered for sale again by my wife after my passing at my estate sale. The revolver is still in time and as far as the trigger, just imagine taking one of these 8 exemplary examples and making the trigger twice as good.

I had the chance to shoot both the Python and the gold cup back in the 80s. Both where beautifully crafted and good shooters!

videos like this are what I love about MarksmanTV someone was a huge Colt Python fan and collector. lucky for us for whatever their reason they decided to sell their collection to you, and we get a history lesson on what was one of the most popular revolvers ever made. I'm guessing S&W were in more police holsters but in the 70's and 80's any TV show or movie with a cop in it they were carrying a python. if you remember CHiPS John and Ponch both had pythons. If you didn't notice that it might be because they never pulled their guns out of their holsters during the entire series.

My dad had a python when I was a kid and he did armed guard work at the civic center. Blued 4 inch. Honestly that was the only colt revolver I had my eye on. Maybe someday.

Looking at those Colts makes me question if I was really lucky to inherit good looks instead of money!

I had a 1964, 4" Royal Blue Python at one time. Unfortunately I had to sell it during a period of "personal economic downturn." I figured I'd never get another one, but when Colt announced in 2020 the Python would be back, I was near the front of the line. I've got three now, and love 'em. If the "old" ones were better, you'd have to prove it to me.

I owned a 6 inch bright nickel Python in the mid 1970 vintage but eventually let it go knowing that I would have been better off to keep it

Bought a brand new python in 1978 and got tired of timing issues and it wasn't as accurate as I thought it should have been so I traded it for a used lawman that has a 3inch barrel. That was 1983 and the lawman is still hanging in there.

I could live with the sub-par finish on the weapons were the prices lower. I feel like we are paying "hand finishing" prices for machine work. Now affordable revolvers don't even get "finished", just some kind of spray on coating.

You had some errors in your discussion, so here are some Colt 'sperg comments/ corrections: the grips on the 4" blued gun are from the mid 1970s or later, so if the gun was made in the late 60s the grips are not original or the gun was made later. Pythons used two pin front sights from 1955 until the early 1990s and then one pin sights until the end of production in 2005. All of the boxes displayed are from the mid 1970s through the mid 1980s. From 1955 through 1964 they used a two piece wood grain cardboard box with a green and gold interior. From 1965 through early 1970s they used a two piece wood grain cardboard box with a red and black interior. The one piece woodgrain cardboard sleeve over the two piece Styrofoam interior started about 1973 and continued with variations until the maroon box style that you showed a picture of that started around 1986. The maroon box was used though 1990 and in about 1991 the blue plastic cases were introduced, first inside a cardboard outer box, then around 1996 they dropped the outer box and the inside of the blue case was now lined with eggcrate foam, a style that I believe Colt uses to this day...End of 'sperg comments.

I wish America still had that kind of pride in manufacturing as they did with the early Pythons.

Is Colt Python dated 1990 of Royal Blue finish still vintage? Is it Royal Blue if the year is 1990?

It looks weird if it does not have a 6 inch barrel, so the comparison of design gets altered.

If a Python has been re-barreled, how much does that affect value? I have a 1957 that shipped as a 4" but now has a 2.5".
