In the video, James Hodges tells police he is legally blind. After an argument, one officer is heard saying, "You know what? Put him in jail for resisting."
Unfortunately it’s more expensive and time consuming to fire a cop they’re just like teachers. Unions make things way way worse. If there’s no police union these issues won’t happen as often. Hopefully the good cops bully the beta male soy cop and feminist captain marvel cop until they quit.
@@t3mpomusic That's the most disgusting thing about all of this. What are the bodycams for they're not going to be held accountable for the misdeeds that are recorded on those bodycams? It's just a waste of money in that case. It's just for show, to help people feel safer.
They're framing it as ignorance because while not an excuse for any non costumed citizen to get out of a criminal charge, is enough for any costumed buffoon to get out of a criminal charge. Hopefully the FBI will investigate both the state attorney and the department if no files are placed on these sorry excuses of human beings.
the Sergeant who refused to give his badge Number and Id and said " you know what put this guy in jail for Resisting " should have been fired immediately.
They really should those cops are extremely incompetent and they always go unpunished and when you sue your actually suing the city and not them and they don’t care because the money is coming from taxpayers…….. aka US, it really doesn’t affect them
@John Lee From uslegal According to the laws of Tennessee, kidnapping is false imprisonment as defined in § 39-13-302, under circumstances exposing the other person to substantial risk of bodily injury[i]. § 39-13-302 defines that a person commits the offense of false imprisonment when knowingly removes or confines another unlawfully so as to interfere substantially with the other’s liberty. Kidnapping is a Class C felony and false imprisonment is a Class A misdemeanor [ii].
Sgt Randy Harrison left a police K9 in a hot car to die a few years ago, and he didn't face any consequences to speak of. If a citizen had done this they would have been charged criminally This female deputy doesn't have the temperament to be a deputy, and should have been fired. Sad
How about the cop that locked a woman in the back of a patrol car PARKED ON A RAILROAD TRACK and hit by a train! Last I heard they were still trying to figure out if anyone did anything wrong.
If this is how those cops acted with an innocent man, I can just imagine how they treat their own family members. This is why good parenting is very important so that we introduce good adults with great character into society.
As police officers we make mistakes? This was a sergeant with many years on the force that said arrest him. Dude needs to be fired! Actions like that indicate that he's used to doing these sorts of things.

That sheriff is the problem. His deputies didn't violate policy. They violated Federal Law. The cops should be in Federal prison. The sheriff is a joke.
I saw the report the female deputy wrote and it was full of lies. Isn't that illegal? She wrote that she didn't confirm that the thing in his pocket was a walking stick until they'd put him in handcuffs. He told her that and showed it to her right away. There's no way she got that wrong by a mistake. She intentionally lied.
@@karinaz8756 He showed the folded up cane to both officers right away. There is no way they mistook it for anything else. After handcuffing him and Illegally searching him to get his ID, they saw he was legally blind on his ID, and mention it on the video. So instead of removing the handcuffs and giving the poor guy back his cane, they arrest him. THEY NEED TO BE FIRED!!!
I agree with what he said to an extent, he should have said is [ I do believe they acted with ill intent “due to their frustration and failure to rely on their training “]

Totally agree ! This is a completely insincere apology and the action taken is no way severe enough the sheriff's actions prove he's equally as unworthy of keeping his job as they are !
Well, I see why she got only 2 days' suspension. When her SGT got on site, he took over the responsibility for the incident. So, the dumbest things that happened were literally under his control, including the decision to arrest the guy. It was his direct order. So, he got demoted. Great decision. 7 days without pay... So his paycheck will be 1/4 lighter... Maybe the female officer should have been suspended for half of that term, 3-4 days... But the main takeaway from this is she HAS to understand where and why she screwed up.
To the residents of Columbia County, Florida. If you witness this sheriff acting in accordance with what he says here and see him continually striving for improvement and lawfulness in the actions of his department, then I urge you to support him. However, if his actions do not communicate any congruence with his words and promises, then I urge you to vote him out of his position, or at least make clear that unless he does change, he will not receive your vote. Your power is in the vote.
She should have lost her job and never allowed to wear another badge for the rest of her life. Because she confirmed she was a tyrant. This Sheriff department has to take full ownership that they hire tyrants amongst their department.
The lady cop literally called herself a tyrant from the get go. And the supervisor threatened arrest right away as well. They're both tyrants. Cops are going to have their qualified immunity ended. I can feel it.
Sheriff, you get a D- for your response. This is an unacceptable response for the criminal victimization of a law abiding (disabled) citizen. Short suspension for a completely unlawful arrest? No Sir. What about the trauma you put that man through??? This is just another example of “escalate & retaliate” by overly aggressive officers. Disgraceful.

Not only should these cops be fired, they should be charged under 18 USC 241 abuse of power under the color of law, and assault. "Ill intent" is the basis for all tyrants.

I have the police report on my channel, I know you won't be surprised that she lies and lies and lies, but she also mentions that it's an overcast day and that cars still had their headlights on, trying to insinuate that he was lying about being blind. As if that would excuse her behavior. They both should be sitting in a jail cell wondering how much prison time they'll serve over this. A few days suspension for both is a joke.
@@McCucumber Well, I've been following police corruption for a long time. Behind the desk of the police watch station is security that is equal to the pentagon, maybe more secure. Once the police have jurisdiction over a person, they are at the mercy of justice or injustice, and it is a gamble. Police have "sovereign Immunity" under the 11th amendment. Google "police hiring and low IQ," and you will find the courts upheld hiring of officers whose IQs are limited at a lower point. So, later they modified immunity to "qualified," yet it is still a constitutional right created in 1795. So, in 1795 Congress legalized corruption by granting immunity to the accused, "unless the state consents." This is a perversion of the divine right of kings, and James Wilson pointed this out in Chisholm v. Georgia, I'd recommend reading that opinion. So in essence, sociopaths recognize this opportunity and they join official state employment, and they get this get out of jail free card. This has gone on over 200 years and has cultivated our politicians and law enforcement to hire sociopaths and sociopaths can handle the harsh campaigning of politics, where decent people are not built for such psychological warfare. This has resulted in the destruction of any utopia that could have been gleaned from a bill of rights that was limited and utterly destroyed by the 11th amendment. So, now they can arrest political parties on technicalities, and nothing can be done. They really control their own entity without checks and balances. The Grand Juries are not independent and controlled by them. The police have too much power and they have created an industry that seeks to create and manufacture more crime to support their autonomy.
This should not be over. This here "Sheriff", if one can call him that, should be penalized for dereliction of duty to ensure proper training of his sergeants and deputies. Makes you wonder how many times this happened before an educated citizen asserted his rights and resisted tyranny. God bless James Hodges.
The fact that you didn't fire these deputies means your just incompetent. How could these deputies not understand reasonable articulable suspicion of a crime or when a person must ID, or what resisting arrest? Fire them.
%100 CORRECT... FIRE THEM BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE HAPPENS. PUT DOWN YOUR FOOT ... what kind of show are you putting on here??? get rid of both of these clowns.. what is wrong with the Department BOSS... he needs to be the first one FIRED WITH THAT KIND OF LEADERSHIP... clowns working there...
Suspended without pay for 2 days , that shows how deeply that Sheriff is deeply corrupt, he is just as despicable as the cops, the whole department needs to be investigated ,the nerve of them treating a blind man like that ,corruption at its best ,
The Sheriff said they did not act with ill intent against Mr. Hodges, clearly he thinks we the people are stupid. These deputies were on an ego trip. They acted On ego Sheriff Hunter admit it.

That the sgt arrested him out of frustration is beyond ridiculous. He dealt with the guy for a few minutes, most of the time he was completely quiet. If that's all it takes for him to become frustrated, he should not be given the privilege of having authority over anyone.
nor should he be given a gun, or anything that can be used to harm someone. If his ego is THAT fragile and so easily bruised, the last thing he needs to be (or the other one for that matter) is near a weapon.
No ill-intent???. Only in police world. Then a horrible punishment for person arresting! Two days suspension! That Sheriff belongs in jail with his officers.
*"I don't feel these actions were done by ill intent but out of frustration."* There was no reason to stop Mr. Hodges in the first place, so that's ill intent right there.
they have an obligation to investigate reports of potential wrongdoing- once they see the report is unfounded they need to move on - i have no issue with cops talking to him explaining what happened and once they saw it was a cane moving on - Id be behind them if they did that- I want cops to be on the lookout for criminals - i
@@bikeman1x11 She didn't believe Mr. Hodges had a firearm, did you? Also, when dispatchers get a call from someone saying "I saw a man with a gun," the dispatcher should ask a few questions, like: "Are you sure it was a firearm?" "Was he pointing it at anyone?" "Was he threatening anyone?" The dispatcher should educate the caller and let them know there is nohing wrong with someone having a firearm. Even FL allows people to open carrry in certain situations. If the caller lies, they should be charged. Again, though, Jayme knew Mr. Hodges did not have a firearm - just like you know he didn't have a firearm.
This legally blind citizen was doing his civic duty and reporting for jury duty. When the jury was cancelled he was walking home. The thing that outraged so many people was not the fact that he was blind and had a cane folded in his back pocket. The thing that got us was that he was simply walking down the street like any one of us could have been. They wanted to investigate if the cane was a gun, fine, he showed them it was a cane. That should have been the end of it. Then he asked if the cop was a tyrant and she cheerfully said, "Yes, I am a tyrant, why don't you turn around so we can put the cuffs on you." He was arrested for nothing, zero, zilch. Any of us could have been walking instead of this blind man. The female cop was all smiles and happy as she took away this man's freedom and put him in a cage. The chief might just as well have said, "Why are you so mad? We're just enforcing the law."
Yes, but still, really not ok to investigate if that was a gun. No way it looked like one. Detaining a citizen for a stick in the back pocket is insufficient grounds.
Even further, retraining these tyrants about civil rights is BS. That's just to cover their own asses, not to protect the people. They just want to know how far they can escalate anything without it being at risk of a lawsuit. It's obvious, that's really what their training is about - the goal is to escalate, then retaliate.
@@tarheeldd I wish somebody would put up the agendas for the 6 months cop training. It's all self-defense and how to kill somebody. Nothing on the Constitution.
This sheriff thinks we are all idiots. He doesn’t think this was done from “ill intent?” . That’s EXACTLY what this was. This man committed NO CRIME. That officer was ABSOLUTELY GIDDY when given orders to arrest. They told good faced lies in the police report as well. They should be FIRED and charged.
The sheriff lost me at “No ill intent.” His employees were bullies of the worst kind and shamelessly abused their authority. The man broke no law - he was arrested for not kissing the ground the deputy walked on while she power tirpped. This is not acceptable and this sheriff is blowing smoke. A mere two days suspension is not a reasonable consequence for abusing your authority and violating an innocent man’s rights.
That's exactly right. Any normal human being upon seeing the cane would realize this man has some kind of disability and that the cane was NOT a gun. Any normal human being would have shown a little respect and compassion. This is what law enforcement in America has become sadly. It's a result of no accountability and obviously no psychological screening either.
His deputy proudly admitted she was a tyrant... She should not be a cop and neither should her supervisor who told her to perform a retaliatory arrest.
Wrong. A Demotion in Rank, Suspensions, Disciplinary Action, and Re-Training. We must remember that the Commander must act within the limits of his Office too. Let's now hear what the Courts have to say.
She Lied on the police report saying that deputies were only able to identify his walking stick after they had placed Hodges in handcuffs and she only gets two days suspension for falsifying an official document. Wow!
They basically kidnapped a man for 26 hours of his life and they get 2 days and a week??? If you kidnap somebody in real life it's a pretty serious crime. This is about as unbelievably stupid as anything I've ever seen a cop do and there was two of them which makes it even worse.

understand people "suspension" in police english means no more as "time off" (a citizen having a extra time off) just as we would say "we have no quota's" police english is "officer productivity goals" THEN behind police doors you'll have "under the table" where suspension is done "in-leu" or worked into the shift to where "suspension" lost meaning and officer will forget it was even a suspension. suspension is NOT a form of "punishment"
The two days suspension for the female officer who answered “yes” to the question “are you a tyrant?” makes me so, so angry. There needs to be justice. This is absolutely unacceptable.
It’s a bs charge that IMMEDIATELY gets dropped. It is a SECONDARY charge. You can’t resist arrest when you’re not UNDER arrest. He wasn’t under arrest because he didn’t break the law.
He is a garbage sheriff. Vote him out! He could not have made this worse on himself. He's defending the officers when they clearly violated his rights for no reason. They knew he didnt have a weapon and he had no obligation to identify and they knew it. She even said "yes I am" when he asked her if she was a tyrant.
Her response to being asked if she was a tyrant came across like she was proud of it and she relished in an opportunity to demonstrate that she indeed was one.
@@stevesmith3199 she was absolutely giddy handcuffing that man and throwing him in the back of the cop car. Every arrest she has ever made needs to come under review.

That supervisor in particular has no business with any form of power over another human.
This is why Law Enforcement fought so hard for citizens not to film them and not to wear bodycams. Were it not for the bodycam footage, James Hodges would have been prosecuted for "resisting." The reason there are shortages in Law enforcement currently is that many Cops know if the way they conduct themselves were ever made public, the same or worse would happen to them.
Absolutely disgusting. The so called actions taken against the officers are nothing more than a token slap on the wrist. Not good enough. These officers deserve to be fired and prosecuted.
I don't know....the two day suspension isn't much, I agree. But demoting a sergeant back to regular deputy and barring him from advancing for at least 2 years is a bit more harsh than just a slap on the wrist. And it's warranted. He's going to lose a big chunk of pay, his management/supervisor position, and have a permanent black mark on his record that is going to come up the next time he's up for promotion.
I'm pro law enforcement but this crosses the line of acceptability to me. The female arresting officer was obviously on a power trip. I think they both need to seek new employment in other fields.
I've never understood how someone can be charged with resisting arrest when there is no other charge. This says literally that "I've committed no crime and will not go with you"
This is ridiculous, she literally acted like a child and responded she was a tyrant. If she stays on the police force, your police forces reputation is tarnished.
This was willful, blatant, even malicious, abuse of power and bastardization of the oath sworn by both these officers. No further conduct or testimony from these officers can be considered free from taint.
