I survived my lowest lows thanks to this piece. Everytime life starts to feel too much, the music plays in the back of my mind and I just imagine whatever I face is my own wheel of pain I must push.
I used to listen to this when I was working a dead end job as a garbageman for minimum wage. The work was gruelling, and my supervisor used to harrass me, but I had no choice but to bite down and suffer through it. I still listen to this, and I remember those pitiless days, the days of when I could not smell the spring.
Can't get enough. I've never heard music that exudes such a feeling of unrivaled power and strength born out of depravity and despair. Damn good job Basil Poledouris.
Whenever I think I'm having a problem, this music comes to mind. And I think, "You ain't got problems, boyo; now, pushing the Wheel of Pain for years by YOURSELF, THAT is a PROBLEM!" "Now get up and get back in there!"
Basil Poulidouris really pulled out all the stops for this soundtrack. They should play this soundtrack at an opera. They'd get a full house every night.
Every Man who has lived, has had to push the Wheel of Pain. No Man escapes it. It breaks you. And then it makes you. I mean that in the Exoteric and Esoteric.
the genius the genius...first one minute is like its giving you hope that maybe conan is being led to another village another family maybe...but then the music changes into a grief song that the reality if that he has been led to a slave pit...."a tale of sorrow that turns into strength"
DMalenfant1: You have it so wrong. The old one is better BECAUSE it isn't perfectly choreographed, BECAUSE everybody doesn't have have perfect skin tone and perfect physiques and perfectly cut and fitting clothes, BECAUSE the terrain and camera angles look real, instead of perfect, BECAUSE the dialogue, love scenes, and story is raw, rather than perfect, and YES, BECAUSE of arnies shockingly large physique. He IS a mythical barbarian king after all. Show me the characters in the new one who have the flavor that the old wizard has, that subotai, theif, archer, and dinner for wolves has, and christ, that thulsa doom has! No sir, I'm sure that you, and legions of hormone laden girls, all agree that the new one is better, but the truth is it just doesn't have the awesomeness and originality.. the HEART. Something a lot of the new movies don't seem to have... I think it's because they are just too obsessed with the sexuality of the actors and the amount of resolution, rather than nailing down the story.
Not to mention the dialogue courtesy of john "apocalypse now" milius i.e the "grant me revenge" speech OR "crush your enemies, see them driven and hear the lamentation of their women"
Fundamentally, the old Conan was a charming and weird little cult film. The new, as far as I can tell, seems like a slick, paint by numbers Hollywood blockbuster.
I feel such an incredible sense of power listening to this awesome piece! it's like you have a desire to hear this particular tune while driving through a mountain type country side!
The ashes were trampled into the earth and the bllod became as snow. Who knows why they came, for weapons of steel or murder? It was never known for the leader went south..while the children were taken North to Vanir......no one would ever know that my lord's people lived. His was a tale of sorrow.
I was born in 2000, but I have good parents XD So basicaly, I grow up with Conan, Lord of the Rings, and many movies like this. Movies that are really good, not like the most of actual movies
A Deepness of feeling is brought forth from this masterpiece..The essence of the piece is triumph over ANYTHING 2mins 2 seconds in the orchestral brass section sizzles and evokes a swirl of unashamed POWER. a very strong and philosophic piece.. remember.. theres NO Dialogue save Mako's speech. it tells so much . this IS STRENGTH in Musical form
I carry logs for fire wood up a steep long hill at home, log on shoulder and this playing on the phone. Luv it as the pain in my legs build at the end.
This movie is great. But if they cut out 90% of the dialogue and just let the music tell the story, this might be remembered as one of the best movies ever.
Even with the Battle of the mounds and the Riders of Doom, this is my favorite track. What makes it even better are the two Warhammer 40 000 videos as a first and the best recommendation.
