Back when music made you Want to pick up a sword and take on the foulest creatures that roamed the land, while heroicly riding on your horse to adventures new 😎
"Between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world. Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, sword in hand. It is I, his chronicler, who knows well his saga. Now, let me tell you of the days of high adventure."
While Atlantis is mythological Aryas may refer to the Aryan people who are an ethnoculture of Indo-Iranian people (their name was later taken by the Germans in WW2 and other Occultists with bigoted beliefs) While Cimmerian is probably derived from Sumerian which are a Mesopotamian/Iraqi people that created the Sumerian Empire in modern day Iran and Kuwait. (so yes Conan is probably Mesopotamian if he were real that is and probably founded the Sumerian Empire if not the Civilization itself.) Fun fact the Sumarians were later conquered by the Akkadians who the Scorpion King of Egypt was said to be decended from and was made into an Empire by Sargon of Akkad (not to be confused with the RU-vidr that uses his name)
@@forickgrimaldus8301 Thanks for the historical references. It must be said that this kind of film and this music by Basil Poledouris was incredible when I was young.
@@CyberWorx whatever u gonna say but the sequel couldnt be better than this one, will say Conan's action and impressions has much more superiority than before or any other fantasy movies of todays
he goes to fast he should went more slowly with the dialogue and use more pauses between the speech! The narrator from the first movie was far better!!
@@333arisokapoios It is the same narrator but different directors. John Milius (director of Barbarian) loved the source material and was a master of screenwriting - he wrote much of the Indianapolis speech for Quint in Jaws, he wrote the screenplay for Apocalypse Now and the Kurtz speech...so it makes a difference when you have a man like that directing actors. You noticed it right here in the same actor, Mako, same narration - but different direction.
Listening to Mako recite the intro speech in Barbarian was a wonderful thing. Gruff and low and hung on the words and gave a sense of some epic adventure afoot. By comparison in Destroyer he sounds like he was late for a coffee break and quickly rushed the lines out with no real feeling. One of a lot of things that sums up the differences between the movies.
@@conanone Absolutely does. This movie sucks soo bad, including the intro where Mako sounds bored to death, that instead of watching this brain fart, it inspires me to watch "Conan The Barbarian" and forget this shyte...
@@abcun17 Conan the Barbarian is boring, it is too long and it doesn't have enough action. Most of the cast cannot act and did very bad performances (Arnold was nominated for a razzie award). Plus there is not enough fantasy in the Barbarian, I guess because Milnius didn't have enough money.
I think the two Conan films balance each other well. The first was gritty and more 'real' if you want to put it that way, while the second was more adventurous and fun. I think they play off of each other well and are both immensely enjoyable in their own right.
The first one is his origin story and first adventure, and the setup showing the Hyborian civilization and age. The second one is one of his many later adventures. The second movie is unfairly maligned because it is or was intended to be an episode in a longer story arc, not the second and climactic resolve of a two movie series. Or whatever. It is an episode of high adventure taken from one of his many, and thus it stands on its own right. The gritty more philosophical and epic first movie is also balanced by its lighter tone. Much like Hercules and the Captive women and "Good natured" brawling and muscleman jocular yet fun jokes.
Ok,you liked it more than barbarian but you are a rare exception. There are so many reasons why Barbarian is generally considered as better in basically anything.
when i was about 5 years old i used to go to my grandpas house he had this dvd. at the time this movie gave me chills i was obsessed with this movie and i used to watch this every day for years. yesterday youtube threw me this video and i unlocked this beautiful memory
Well, imo in first Conan soundtrack was significantly better. The new one doesn't have the feeling of epicness and brutality which OST from Conan the Barbarian had.
This movie introduced me to the fantasy genre. I remember when I was around 8-10 years of age, and watched conan the destroyer on tv. I loved it. After that my dad bought me Conan comics and Lord of the Rings books.
You can feel, when the conan the barbarian theme appears (2:30) that this movie score (and even the movie itself) was less deep than the previous film. There is a huge contrast!
from twitter TheArnoldFans - News - Exclusive: Schwarzenegger Talks Conan the Conqueror and Triplets! www.thearnoldfans.com/ via @TheArnoldFans 4:00 PM - 28 Jan 2016
You know something epic and badass is about to happen when he says: " now let me tell you of the days of high adventure."especially with that tone of voice.
From what I understand, he had just recently eaten a burrito supreme from taco bell and rushed through his script so he could go drop a load. True story
I know it's my favourite part... and the visual is pretty spectacular as well!! I love the melody, makes my heart lift and goosebumps! Amazing memories as a child watching this.
Yes I agree! This is a unique intro that's not found on the soundtracks. Basically, this opening blends the theme of Destroyer (aka The Riders of Taramis) with the original theme from Barbarian (Anvil of Crom). It's a pity more of Anvil of Crom isn't peppered into the movie. But the opening music sequence is just perfect!
You knew you were in trouble when Mako basically phones in the epic intro... whoo boy. I can accept a lot from Fantasy movie, suspend my disbelief for almost anything... but Wilt Chamberlain protecting the virginity of a pretty young woman is totally unbelievable *lol*
Andre the Giant is the monster Arnold fights at the end... Arnold said that both Wilt Chamberlain and Andre displayed feats of strength that amazed him.
The difference between Conan 1, and 2 is as stark as the difference between Jaws 1 and 2. You can’t just throw in a bunch of wizards and sword fights, and replace what John Milius did.
Best fantasy movie intro ever and great motivational music!!! And thank You Chrome for Arnold Schwarzenegger - embodiment of an ideal- Conan the Barbarian.
I don't know, it's still good, although Mako did kind of rush through the reading of this part of the script it seems. But it's hardly terrible as many of you suggest. As far as comparing to the original movie, it's scarcely wise to just slap it on the sequel for good measure. I like both movies for their tale.
