I played this version as a child and I must say, I love this OST! However... I don't recognize a lot of the songs. I don't recognize any of the critical and relief versions. Also, I somewhat recognize Lathethis, but not Athropos. The only song I recognize hearing in Normal mode is Clotho. Also, I remember when I played this version of Columns for the first time in a long time. The song Flash was actually used as the song for the Tetris Puzzle Trials in Puyo Puyo Tetris. I knew the song sounded familiar! The song "Time Out" was also remixed for Puyo Puyo Tetris, but ended up getting unused. Its still in the sound test, however. I was surprised to hear it in this OST too, wich is also because I never heard it when I played the game.

I believe the only reason those songs were specifically remixed for Puyo Puyo Tetris were because they originally came from a version of Tetris developed by Sega.

I don't know if is because of nostalgia, but i prefer this version over the genesis version, even as kid the genesis version sounded odd to me

I've noticed that too, then I went comparing both systems and it seems the genesis composers didn't make such a great job as the SMS ones.. This happens in many many games, some that I know of include: Gain Ground, California Games, R-Type, Shapes and Columns.. Now I don't even get surprised anymore, I'm pretty sure most, if not all, SMS music are better, despite of "technically" more limited hardware.. I guess creativity thrives better with some limitations :) Ps.: BR? é nóiz :p

I think it's interestng because if you notice, most of the time the composers were thry same, which means they had to learn to code the soundchips of both consoles. Maybe the 8-bit tones are just more powerful and something these composers were more at home with. The sountracks of Daffy Duck in Hollywood and Ecco the Dolphin sound nicer on Master system than their Mega Drive versions even if they have more limiting sound-shaping capabilities. Perhaps it's a case of 'less is more'. Castlevania Bloodlines' sountrack is incredible, and that might be a hint, perhaps it was more complex to make it sound good rather than intuitive of the older simpler tools. To me it always brings to mind how Final Fantasy VII's OST is overall much better than FFX.
