Comandante should seriously up their game. They are stuck in the past while their competitors are constantly getting better and better. Was so disappointed with MK4 after so many years all they changed was super minor things. There are even new companies that adopted two-burrs mechanism for a hand grinder. Comandante lacks this kind of creative and innovative approaches and it seems they don't see their problem.
@mixeddrinks8100

I think there are two schools of thoughts here, one is always innovative and innovative, but there is still some charm in doing it "old school way" which after so many years you could say, for nostalgic reason, still an oldie but a goodie. But yea I don't see why they can't do both, sell the old school style and innovate to the moon.

Hello there and thanks for sharing your thoughts :). We never presented the C40 Mk4 as a big development or change from the Mk3, but rather as gradual evolution. We agree that there's not a massive difference. Sorry if we didn't communicate that clearly enough to provide the right expectations. Here from our post at the time: "From 2015-2021 we made continuous and hidden improvements to all components of our beloved C40 Mk3 Nitro Blade grinder. This time however, with a couple of visually obvious differences, we couldn't possibly keep calling it Mk3..." The C40 Mk4 brings the same excellent grind performance and simple usability with no gimmicks. We were already really happy with our C40 baby and we may not have made any changes so quickly if we hadn't been faced with the issue of fake C40 Mk3 grinders being produced in Asia, and our beloved user community there being conned into buying them. Really there was only room for a few small improvements to durability, weight and workflow. Our small and dedicated team has always has a careful and thorough approach to choosing the right materials, technologies and design, so that we can create a grinder that will last generations. The world and the environment doesn't need tools that need replacing every few years. X25 Trailmaster is absolutely the same, and like European Coffee Trip say, it's designed for a specific use case. If you don't need a lightweight and robust grinder for outdoor use, stick to your C40 :). Thanks for your support!

Aside from poor manufacturing quality, lab testing of these fake grinders showed inferior steel quality for the burrs and questionable materials re: food safety. Selling these counterfeit products is not only illegal, but selling them to users and displaying them as the authentic article is certainly conning people. We are sure you would agree.

Hello there! Like ECT said, we designed the X25 with a focus on outdoors use (lighter, more robust), but with the same grind performance (grind result and required strength) as the C40 thanks to our wonderful NITRO BLADE burr set inside. But here are a couple of other differences that might be worth considering, even if your main intention is brewing at home :)... > Size - the X25 has a slightly smaller diameter, which is more comfortable for people with smaller hands. > Capacity - C40 = 40-50g, X25 = 25-30g > Also, the C40 comes with a spare Bean Jar to collect the grounds, meaning you can easily grind enough coffee for a litre of coffee by grinding two doses of coffee in quick succession. Hope that helps!
@BenSietze
@BenSietze Год назад
The C40 has quite a wide body, the X25 is more slim and might suit people with smaller hands better perhaps. And there’s capacity. Do you want to grind more then 25-28grams in one go? Then the C40 is the one to go with. The rest is personal preference, personally I like the looks of the C40 much better. Awesome grinder for filter coffee. And espresso…

@@ComandanteGrinder Increasing the price doesn't make plastic more stable as a material...
@ComandanteGrinder
@ComandanteGrinder Год назад
@@TheMakabert Different polymers have hugely different attributes. It's important to choose the right one for the job. For some use cases, flexibility is desired, for others it isn't. Some polymers are much more expensive to produce and work with, but have attributes that are unattainable for run-of-the-mill plastics. Take carbon-fibre for example. It is a composite material that is essentially a polymer *reinforced* by carbon-fibres. It is relatively expensive, but has fantastic attributes such as stiffness and a high strength:weight ratio. Our QTP material is also a reinforced polymer, using quartz nano-particles to form a robust and stable polymer matrix. Its attributes come with a cost in the short term, but it's an investment that pays out in the longterm. Trailmaster will be a trusty companion for a long, long time :).

@ComandanteGrinder
@ComandanteGrinder Год назад
We believe it's important to consider the quality as well as the physical and chemical properties of the materials used in coffee grinders. Not only for food safety reasons, but also for performance reasons. There's a lot going on on the material science level that isn't obvious at first glance. With these considerations in mind, we use only high quality stainless steel in our grinders (no aluminium) and certainly no burr coatings. Not only the geometry of our Nitro Blade burr makes it taste and performance differently to other burrs. The steel and finishing we use give it a much higher hardness which means it will perform throughout your lifetime. No need to replace it. The steel is also highly inert, performing with absolute neutrality. It avoids the premature oxidation of and reaction with the beans during the grinding process, preserving the complex flavour and sensory characteristics of high quality coffees. Sometimes it's worth paying more to end up paying less in the long term :).
@TheMakabert
@TheMakabert Год назад

@@ComandanteGrinder There are regulations on EU-level regarding food contact material. The way commandatne try to describe steel is food safe while aluminium is not is certainly very misleading as aluminium has been a food contact material for almost a century and still is used in cooking ware and food containers etc. to this day and also a legal food contact material in the entire world not just EU. By further implying a coating on burrs have a bad impact on coffee taste and is not safe for contact with food is almost ridiculous. The person above is asking for input regading the c40 and the K-max and commandante is trying to make it sound like that K-max has a coated burr which is not true, the burrs on k-max is stainless steel while there are certain models from 1zpresso that have burrs with coating with titanium which is the most food safe metall on earth which is why titanium is also used in surgical procedures when reinforcing a bone fracture with titanium screws for instance (the human body do not repell or have any allergic reactions to titanium) . Measuring how long the c40 burr is going to last with time is certainly inappropriate. How long is his expected life time? a day, a month or a year? It would be more reasonable to measure it with how many kilograms coffee it can grind before wearing out and the performance on grind size distributions starts to become uneven. That being said. My personal experience is that K-max is way more user friendly, better built with no plastic inside of the grinder body like the c40 and more innovative with the outer ring adjustment compared to my c40. Don't get me wrong, I still like the performance of my c40 though it doesn't deliver a superior taste in the cup of coffe and it's also cumbersome whenever I need to dial in coffee when changing a bag of coffee (I usually have three different bags of single origin coffee at any given time of the week at home). I will continue to support commandante if the company continues to innovate instead of trying to mislead potential customers and be petty about competitors working in the same market. The c60 is commandantes last chance to keep my support if commandante don't deliver on that release of grinder then I will probably never return as a customer. Cheers.

Re: price and materials. Our goal is to produce food-safe and high-performing tools that last and perform for a lifetime. Our planet and fellow humans are suffering from the effects of toxic materials and planned obsolescence. The cross-compatibility of parts and systems between C40 and X25 was a conscious decision. Cheers.

@@MrAnecro no shit Sherlock. What’s your point? That it’s okay to mislead customers as long as customers are able to choose?

Don’t like the trail master and their German company…they should try not being a disliked company…suing everyone in Europe for carrying certain other brand grinders
