It might be bad as a sim, but it's certainly a good stepping stone. One joystick later, maybe TrackIR. All of a sudden boom, he finds himself with rudder pedals, all the DCS modules bought and playing. Then again if he doesn't want to spend cash and use only a mouse. I'm glad he has a small taste of my favorite genre of PC games.

Actually i tried Warthunder yesterday. Before trying it i had the same feelings that it wasn't a flight sim, but there is some modes for you to choose from, arcade or full realistic. It feels like IL2 in full realistic.

WarThunder will make bad habits for combat sims though. Its like playing against AI in something like Rise of Flight and expecting to whoop other players in multiplayer. Also, stepping stones can be made in REAL sims, that although cost money, actually simulate aircraft right for the most part. In Il2 1946 you can adjust all the settings so its very similar to how Warthunder plays, but the aircraft still act like their real counter parts.

Great selection of flight sims! Kudos on the movie, very well done (I do a bit of sim movie making myself, see my channel). Did you fly all the action yourself or borrow from the movies of others? In any case: very good PR for our genre!

The two biggest advantage War Thunder has over IL2 is price and playerbase. Price is a no brainer, but IL-2 has a HUGE learning curve associated with it. That's great for greybeards who enjoy modding the heck out of their sim, but it's a huge turnoff to the other 99% of the people that play War Thunder that would otherwise steer clear of sims for exactly that reason. Plus, it's not just a flight sim, it will eventually be, at least I hope, a better version of WWIIOL.

I had fun with Warthunder yesterday, my first try with it. I like some real sims like X-Plane 10, but i was looking for combat. Only thing that i found really really bad is that i only found players playing in the arcade section. Tried Full realistic but after 10 minutes waiting for some guys to play with me, i gave up.

I want to try it, but i don't think im going to enjoy it unless i buy it. It comes only with the SU-25 right? Does it have some aircrafts that can do carrier operations? Even if they are paid packages. I love carrier ops.

Thank You so much McBlemmen ! I have the Cliffs of Dover and did not know if I could already own the part I liked in the video, and I appreciate very much knowing now. Thank You so much, I will have to buy that new (to me) flight sim. I just bought the Mig21 in DCS and love it !!!

I bought it and cant get it to run in DX mode or 5670 x 1080 ? I can get cliffs of dover to work like that ??? I will have to do some searching. Someone in help on steam mentioned something called STAB but I cant find it.

BMS is one of those sims that is illogical.You press the canon,nothing happens so you have to read a manual or pull your hair out until you try to find an answer.

War Thunder is the very epitome of "arcade game". I've had some good fun with it but got a bit bored... it's completely the opposite of what serious simmers enjoy :)

Jet sims suck as they mostly about management of controls not flying the plane like pilots who had plums of the early world wars.Men fly props.Nerds fly jets.

DatBassie Too old my young friend. Don't know why I am trying to kill myself trying to play these study sims when I'm too old to do them and I suffer from depression as well.Leave em to the Veruca Salts. Most of the kids that play these were in their teens when starting.I grew up with the Amiga 500.I was in my 30s when Falcon 4 came out.Too late to learn sims like these.Any sim really even War Thunder because when you get old ,your reflexes and memory goes and also you can't be bothered.I wasn't gifted the brain power to learn flight sims.You need to be really smart and that is a gift you are given at birth.I'm good at drumming but because I'm dumb,never could make a career of it.It's really not how good you are,it'show smart business wise you are.Something my brain is empty of and why I want to die . The reality of our World we live in. If you're dumb,you are bullied till the day you die,if you happen to get the Veruca SAlt brains,you ar eapplauded till you die,get the perfect wife and kids and have a great life. Humans shit me.

I'm not even going to get into the scummy activites Gaijin does.. And IL2 can be as hard as you make it, much like WarThunder. Il2 does not have a steep learning curve, especially if you already know teh basics of flight (Roll, Pitch, Yaw). Also stop referring to WarThunder as a flightsim. Its just...not. I may sound like some pretentious simmer but WT even on FRB feels very wrong. Also why did you bring up modding? You can play complete vanilla IL2 no problem.. also WT is F2P, but fuck GE.
