Join our weekly Combat Check-In Newsletter (www.combatstory.com/newsletter) to get a short email from Ryan for people who love and support our veterans, service members, and their families. It has info on a significant event in military and/or intel history, a funny military joke, an update on a current event I'm following, something I'm doing that week in my life, a book I'm reading, a look at an upcoming interview, a reflection on a past episode and more.
Today we hear the Combat Story of Travis Hall, an Army Ranger and Special Forces Green Beret who survived 18 combat deployments post-9/11 to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Niger. You heard that correctly: 18 deployments.

Travis was an 18D (Special Forces Medic) and one of the first K-9 handlers deployed with the Green Berets in combat. He’s been in day long firefights, run both high and low vis ops, trained thousands of partner forces, and survived some incredibly difficult operations.
Travis founded Second Chance K9, which is a rescue organization that pairs working military dogs with special operations veterans suffering from PTSD. He also runs Second Chance Medical Consulting, where he provides private and semi-private training on firearms and medical aid.
After 18 deployments over almost two decades, Travis’ positive approach to life and his focus on making people’s (and dogs’) lives better is tangible.
I hope you enjoy this Combat Story of someone who spent many years deep in our wars (with and without a dog at his side) as much as I did. And if you do enjoy it, I hope you’ll subscribe and leave a positive review (it would mean a lot).

Travis, so pleased that you included the Vietnam Vets. They have been left out and abused so they just disappeared into society. They deserved to be honored. My Son is named “Travis” and turns 50, 17Dec21. His Dad did 2 tours in Vietnam’67/‘68/‘69 as a Crew Chief/Door Gunner flying Green Berets into Cambodia.

Mr. Travis Hall has many life intersections with my own. Sadly, my fate did not intersect in regard to S.F. He is evidence of the humanity of soldiers, and the strength of character of a Special Forces team member. I certainly identify with his kinship with our dear friends in the K9 realm🐕‍🦺 and the mentality of protecting those that deserve my loyalty. Thank you to our host and guest for a great interview 👍🏻

This was a great conversation we got to listen in on. Travis, you are awesome! Much respect! I handled K9s (@ss biters, no detection dogs) on the LE side for 15 years. When you spoke of the bond you develop with the dog, it really hit home. It's truly magic when you depend on each other(you and the dog) as a team, how strong that bond is. Also, I wanted to say my last dog, K9 Donja, mal/shep mix female was a wash out from SFs K9 selection. I worked her for 7 years and she was amazing, Despite havingme as a handler. Saved my bacon many times. Deterred many fights for me and won many for me as well. I always felt bad she didn't realize her first job in the SF but I was glad for the chance I got to have a her partner. thanks again for the great episode!
