In this video I go over blocks that work at close range, in other words street fighting close.
The blocks are easy to do and are gross motor in action which makes them great movements when adrenalized,
These blocks help develop an aggressive defense which help you block and strike simultaneously.
You can also counter strike off these type of blocks smoothly and effectively without leaving yourself open to counter attacks.
So grab a partner and have him slowly attack you with different strikes using gloves to protect his fists from injury and practice using these combat blocks and see how aggressive you become when using them.
Add them to your street fighting skills you'll be glad you did...

Sir thank you for your videos! Great stuff! I am really interested in combative blocking for street fighting kicks (specially for the low line kicks).Do you plan to make a video adressing this subject? Take care!

What I love to do when my friend and I are bareknuckle sparring is intentionally block with my elbows so that way not only was it a block but a strike in a way. I condition my elbows well so I don't end up hurt when I block with them. :D

The x-block, peekaboo, crossarm blocks should all be done with wrists turned in to your face because you never know when a blade could be coming at you...best not expose your insides of wrists.

True Daniel, but if it's just bare fists these work well. For blade attacks I wouldn't use these blocks.

BareFisted Good to hear it, man, but my point was that is normal to not see a knife coming , even for trained streetwise and weapon-aware cops. A perp showing you his knife, shank, bottle, glass, or screwdriver etc. before he uses it is a rare luxury. The only way to defend is to assume there is a blade attacking until you have 100% certainty that there is not and will not be [as one can be drawn in a second]. Hands are blurred and the blade not seen, most of the time for most people, even trained people.

Interesting blocking techniques here, some relly good ideas. Slightly concerned about how vunerable your mid section is when executing these blocks though.

Hey CJ, usually when someone is head hunting you in a street fight they aren't thinking of hitting you in the gut. The fight usually doesn't last longer than 10 seconds, but if you're worried about mid section shots train for impact to the mid section with a partner. Also train these blocks with a partner and have him try to hit you in the mid section as you block his punches. The best way to have confidence in these blocks is to train them and see if they work for you under pressure.

good stuff but these techniques for blocking hooks to the head leaves you really vulnerable to the body shots

It could but you could also be attacking his striking arm with your elbow as you block. I may have to make another video showing how to strike and block simultaneously using these techniques.

uh.. Doesn't this counter everything you said about keeping a far guard in a street fight?

Not really, you can still do all these with a far guard, also a fight can go from arms length away to face to face in seconds. The best option is a far guard, but sometimes we don't get the best option so we take what we are given.

everyone please, do me a favour and never try to defend u this way. if u got a mobile opponent who is comboing up and ''dance'' around u while atacking these blocks are useless.

Sorry Don but they work just fine, plus there are a few added variations that make these blocks very dangerous to the dancing ballerina boxers. ;0)

BareFisted well i'm not willing to test these blocks in a real fight 'cause i got my own ones i know they're working ... if u r that sure they work i guess i have to train with one of u MT guys

Slade Orlov, I would consider Gunting a type of block/striking technique.

When I trained Kali/Escrima we were taught the Gunting (scissor) strike was a parry combined with a nerve strike to weaken or stun the arm...IMHO, trying it in real time, full contact, is useless and wasted movement. (That upsets a lot of FMA instructors.) It would work fine against a sloppy-drunk or perhaps half hearted bully trying to grab or shove you, but not against a committed full scale attack. The combative blocking methods Coach Sambrano shows are much more practical against a full scale attack...If a practitioner wants to know if their methods are efficient there's only 'ONE' way to find out for sure. Pressure test it in a real fight against a stronger, larger, quick, aggressive opponent! And it's not hard to find young men who will agree to a friendly full contact bare knuckle match in order to test their skills against yours. (The only way to learn to fight is to really fight w/out gloves or hand wraps and also against multiple, determined, attackers. Otherwise it's all fantasy play.)
