You must learn to breathe properly, to control the adrenalin dump you inhale deeply and hold the breath for a 2-3 count then exhale slowly by placing the tip of the tongue behind the top front teeth. Do this for about 2-3 breaths, this will help calm you and slow the heart rate. If you get hit and start to get dizzy immediately start hyperventalating by inhaling and exhaling quickly until you snap out of it. This will oxygenate your blood and snap you out of being dizzy. Hope this helps. Daniel~
Thank you for your comment Eryan724, I try to give more insight in all my videos, also why make the same ole video that's already on youtube made by hundreds of others. I'm glad the video was of some use to you, take care. Daniel~
I use a two knuckle hook punch but I will corkscrew it to hit the temples or the side of the neck or the back of the jaw. One last thing in order to throw a straight two knuckle punch you must be standing in front of your opponent if he moves side to side you'll miss or won't penetrate very deeply. Try hitting a maize bag or have someone hold focus mitts at head height and try hitting them as he moves around. While penetration is important you must be able to hit off the move. Take care Daniel~
Hey Clyde an uppercut usually comes straight up towards the chin, but a shovel hook comes in at an angle. It sounds as if your strike is a mixture of both, if it works for you keep practicing it.
Hey wrathVchild, thanks for commenting. As far as damage to the small knuckle I am assuming you mean the pinkie knuckle, if you use the ring finger as the target knuckle to strike with the pinkie and middle finger will strike together making the strike very solid and less likely to get injured.
It may due to it's smaller striking surface, but it's 3-5 inches shorter in length than a 3 knuckle. You really have to train to make a two knuckle strike as it is not a natural way to strike. Another thing to consider is bone structure, when you turn the fist horizontally to strike the head you weaken the punch, so a two knuckle punch works best when striking the body which is what it was meant for. Try hitting at the very top of a 6 foot makiwara to verify if what I'm saying is true or not.
Hey Tang, only if you are hitting below the clavicles do you use a horizontal strike anything above the clavicles should be hit with a verticle or diagonal fist. Horizontal striking to the head can injure your hand due to structural weakness. Hope this helps, take care. Daniel~
Excellent video, sifting through all the different opinions and theories on bareknuckle striking gives me a headache sometimes, it's nice to see someone back it up with some physiological information. I just have one question in regards to corkscrewing the punch over so your thumb is down. Does this also keep the membrane in the forearm in a strong position? I was wondering as the corkscrews motion turns the same as the horizontal, just further.
Hi Amanda, here is the secret to the "corkscrew" punch, turn it over at the shoulder not at the elbow and your forearm structure will stay the same, in other words it will be in the vertical position just upside down. You can strike with either the two or three knuckle landing, just make sure you align your landing knuckles with your forearm bones. Thanx for the comment. Daniel~
Your video was really helpful. Thanks! I really appreciate that you don't only tell people to do one thing but discuss all possibilities. That means that you are comfortable with you do and have great knowledge in that field, some guys say "don't fight with gloves baby" or "you'll break your hand if you don't wear gloves" both don't know nearly as much as you about punching. ^^
Watch my video "How to Punch: Two and Three Knuckle Punching", it will explain how to strike safely. But in the meantime, try rolling your hand into a fist and strike diagonally for the best way to strike barefisted.
Sorry to hear about your thumb brywic28, but I think we can fix your challenge. First start punching bareknuckled next try pressing your thumb against the side of your index finger when you punch. If you feel you have no strength in your thumb, hold a tennis ball with your other four fingers and press your thumb into the ball 10 times for 3 sets, two to three times a week. Lastly strike with the bottom three knuckles of your fist with a vertical or diagonal fist. Take care Daniel~
i have always naturally used diagonal, and my knuckles are really tough, im able to beat just about everyone in highschool at bloody knuckles, its good to know its a viable way to punch.
Thanks man . I believe the fight is always between fist vs body ,. Not fist vs fist .. Couple of days ago my younger brother punched me in stomach n it hurt like hell lol .he has baby hands ..n i pretend as if i didn't hurt all coz my ego was at stake hehe by the way i punch with my first two knuckles ... Nice video :)
You are awesome. Every thing you say makes a lot of sense. I have hurt my pinky knuckle and hand bone in that area punching before. I know other people who have had this problem, and it is one of the reasons given for the two knuckle method. What are your thoughts on damage to the small knuckle?
@barefisted Great advice about the three knuckle landing! We use the same concept in Wing Chun with our punches (more anatomical, less stress to the wrist and metacarpals) p.s.- Interosseous membrane (great note about that by the way), pronounced: inter-OSS-ee-us Keep up the good work!
It only does if you know how to punch correctly, otherwise it's a crap shoot. Also if your fist is conditioned for impact you will cause more damage. Allthings being equal, the guy with the bigger and stronger fists will have the advantage.
also, do you have a instructinal video on how to throw your bodyweight behind the punch? may you please make one if you havent? Im still struggling on understanding the mechanics. thanks :)
@Barefisted how do you keep from getting dizzy and controlling your adrenalin pump in a fight, plz let me know if you do know.things you do before a fight or in general to lower the effects of the dizzy feeling after i get punched (near the face).
You don't have to buy another set of gloves, it's just that your sparring gloves will flatten out quicker and you'll end up buying another pair quicker than if you had a pair of bag gloves which are made specifically for hitting the heavy bag.
I have sparring gloves and I have a punching bag. I don't have the kind of money to buy another set of gloves just for the bag, is it really a big deal? Great Video btw.
LOL I wished i had seen this video earlier as i almost broke my fist when i hit a heavybag with a left 2 knuckle punch and is it okay if I throw a jab with the three knuckle horizontally?
Ive had wrist surgery from punching I had tfcc repair which is the firbrocartilage on the ulnar side of wrist , Ive always hit with first two knuckles , After watching this I'm thinking of trying to punch with the three knuckles which ive never done , Do you know if this would be a good idea and would it be less stress on the pinkie side of the wrist hitting with 3 knuckles ? Any info on this from anyone would help Thanks for the vid subricbed today !
