You can see he was thinking hard to keep his language PG. An 800,000 dollar machine blows an engine. I would have said way more, but I was professionally trained by my military family and later the Army.
That is insane.. i feel so sorry for Brody.. we've all been there man.. something happens on your watch beyond anyone's control but you still feel like crap.. chin up man.. worse things happen at sea. Fantastic that ye are able to get up and running again so soon. ❤
@@hopejohnson1219 They’d still have issues. Maybe not engine but Ivers Farms had a gearbox out of one of theirs but in order to take said gearbox out, the engine oil pan had to come off
There’s a very good reason that junk is banned from our property. I know of 4 Deere combines that have blown an engine this year. If Deere wants back on our property, they have to agree to not only pay to fix their mistakes, but also pay me for all the downtime I lose due to their negligence.
@@matthewvogelaar9029 soooooooooo in other words, it is Deere. got it. its still Deere's fault either way, wether its an engineering mistake or wether its an assembly worker. they're both hired by Deere, they still employed those american idiots u say what u want, but its still Deere's fault either way....
Had a engine go in a claas a few years ago in the UK, engine ordered from Germany that evening, old one stripped out, auxiliarys swapped over and new engine in and cutting again in 2 1/2 days.
I don't wish carastophies like that on anyone no matter how good of content some say it makes. It goes to show how well you all took the major breakdown in your calm stride. Tempers were possibly up but no-one over-reacted, that we saw and Chet even managed to show the damage that was done by a big end bearing bearing giving out (just a quess). The power behind engines and components is staggering. Solid pieces of metal just torn off. But most impressive was the "ok how do solve the next few days? What needs to be done and who id going to do what? A real testament to your families reslove in a crisis.
I Can't Believe Mother Deere Keeps Building That Piece of Sh#@ Engine Maybe That's why We See A 13.6 Replacement Tell Deere You Want The New Model Engine Give them Hell Doug.o
I had a 3406B cat do the same thing, connecting rod bolt broke. Cat was great , paid the tow from Boston to Syracuse NY, replaced engine on warranty! Couldn't ask for more
Poor Brody, had the newer combine this year, all modded and decked out, chugging along and KABOOM! You can tell it broke his heart. But he has the crown for the destruction king now. I don't see how anybody could top it. Brody's magnum opus.
Thanks for this video Chet. In my years around farm machinery I have never seen an engine explode like that. Just unbelievable!!!!!!! Virtually broke that engine in half. On my. I really feel bad for the Larson farm operation and for Brody and all of the Larsons!!!!!! That had to be a bad situation happening to you as an operator. Oh my goodness!!!!!!!’ Hang in there everyone with the Larson farms. Chet you indicated the dealer has a combine you can use plus they are coming tomorrow to remove the bad engine right in the field. A new engine is on its way from what Chet indicates. Sounds like the dealer is getting rights on this situation. Wow. Never seen this before. Wow. Could not be at a worse time that being harvest time. They have a good dealer supporting them which is great. Chet, keep us posted as this is most interesting. Appreciate you videoing this for us to see. My goodness. Anxious to see the follow up video to this. Thanks for everything Chet. My blessings to ALL of you!!!!!! The Iowa farm boy. Steve. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Been waiting for this one! I was roading a JD scraper years ago, running 30mph when it went BANG and shook the whole machine, slowed and pulled off the road still running as I got off to view the piston rod going in and out of the side of the block.
“I had to Turn on the camera for him to stop” Had me rolling we had a Combine engine blow up a couple years ago. Never a fun experience when that happens
Back in the 90's I had a rod leave the chat at about 15,000 hours in a Komatsu PC 650-5 that I operated since new. It flamed up, the fire went out by itself pretty quick. Internal parts and oil scatter everywhere. It had a vibration before it blowed up. Two mechanics checked it out when vibration started and cleared it as OK to use. As the second mechanic drove away, she let loose.
After seeing the video about this incident from a couple weeks back, I gotta hope Brody doesn't take things personally. Obviously not his fault. As the bat-wing mower gear wasn't either, just because he happened to be the unfortunate one using the 20+ year old mower with untold hours on it when it stopped working, or the nearly new $1M dollar machine with defective engine. Don't take it personally Brody! You're obviously a hard worker!
Been there, 1980's soybean harvest Thanksgiving day, MF 860. Oops make that a 760, memory not what it used to be. I was not not running it, but it had a ring failure, fire shot down into the oil sump ignited the fumes and blew the cast aluminum oil pan off. I did get into the repair though: 1) Drag combine to shop, 2) Degrease the engine(Perkins diesel) as much as possible. 3) Pull engine out. 4) Get new sleeve and piston set and install. 5) Put engine back in combine. 6) Head to field and pick up harvesting.
My Nephew was running the 9770 last week with a sidehill installed on it . He was on the steepest part of the field when the engine locked up. Doing beans of course!!
My friends 9600 JD calved an engine at 13 hrs. It word back that some of the journals had not been drilled properly. They had a new engine in it in 26 hrs, kudos to them
I've been working on John Deere and other brands of agricultural and construction heavy equipment for 40 years I have never seen an engine block blow apart like that can't wait to see the follow-up to this impossibly learn what the cause of this was in the future
Reminds me of something an instructor said when I was in the Coast guard. He was talking about maintaining one of the pumps we had for rescues, the P-250. "...if the oil levels are not maintained, the engine will eventually experience a spontaneous parts-rearrangement, and machines only get to change out their parts one time.
Yes You are the only person that understands what really happened. I am a heavy Equipment Diesel mechanic. Nothing else to say. Kate's Ag sone thing.Engine oil pressure light came on .Dad said stop Kate.Ended up adding 2.5 gallons. She is busy videoing Check oil level ????
Just seen someone on tiktok have to pull the motor out of that same combine! He is a John Deere technician. He pulled it out in the field and diagnosed it and then put a reman motor in it. He said the reman cost just as much as it cost to rebuild the motor and comes with a better warranty.
As we always said, it hung a leg out of bed. Shit happens. Was in the diesel engine business for 42 years. Seen lots of those. All makes and colors. This is where field service steps up.
Talk about bang. Once our trailer tire blown out, behind the tractor full of wheat (~11 tone, ~24.000 pounds). I almost made a new sunroof, it was so damn loud.
Poor Brody. I know it isn't his fault, however, Brody seems to be the type of young man to take it personally. You know what they say Brody......it happens.
I could see the emotions in Brody. It was out of his control, but when something major like that happens to equipment you enjoy and appreciate, it hurts the soul. Glad to see Brody with his dog de-stressing .
I feel sorry for Brodie, he looked so distraught. What a bad thing to happen to such a great guy. On the better side though, no doubt he will be back in the saddle in no time. Wish we could have heard more of DOUGOs words of wisdom, can just imagine.......😎😎
@@dphillips705 Deere thankfully stopped using Cummins again. Our salesmen try not to sell Cummins powered tractors because just about every machine with more than 3000 hours shits out the injectors which destroys the whole emissions system.
It happens to all brands...back in early 70's Dad had a new 4620 JD Tractor delievered had about 300 hrs on it the crankshaft cracked in half and resulted were catastrophic to say the least...1968 JD 4020 Powers shift little over 200 hrs transmission flew into many pieces.. Both were under warranty and we but 1,000s of hrs on them with no problems ..it can be a kicker at prime harvest time...But all brands have thier lemonade moments
Wow, that was a massive blow up! It reminds me of when i was a kid and my dad told me to rev up his truck to check something and BOOM the engine blew, i never forget my dads face and reaction. I however looked liked and Brody and wanted to the heck out of there!
We had a 7720 titan II with maybe 3400 hours, sold it from Canada, went south for corn and its only ever seen soybeans and wheat. He hasn't had issues with it in 6 years. We got a 9600 to replace it and honestly its been a good machine too, but I do miss that 7720 with a 30ft head.
Thats part of the connecting rod cap in your hand Chet. I've seen alot of engine carnage in my time but I don't recall ever seeing a block split like that.
That was a major explosion, thank God it didn’t blow the whole machine up! Just shows buying the best that is checked and checked can still go wrong! This puts the combining behind!
To drop the head, run a wire from the plus side of the battery to the electric solenoid of the hydraulic stack. You might want to put some boards on the ground under the header so it will clear the throat when they separate. Undo your axle spines and make an A-frame from the rear axle to a tractor bar. You can pull it backwards.
I really wished we could have seen the unhinged Dougo, I can only imagine the profanity just flying and I bet not a single person save for Chet had the audacity to get a word in.
Damn that's a nice Pete!!! Can I come drive truck for you!!! Brody nothing you can do when an engine explodes that is definitely taken care of like you guys take care of your equipment...
Sorry about the troubles, but have to say Brody got some really good shots of your combine/reel/sunset, and the front shot of the semi leaving was a close second…just an unbelievable couple of seconds there.
I just toured the JD engine factory and was super impressed with the precision they use in building engines. Some metallurgy reason I’m sure. Amazing they can get an engine and have you running so quickly, your dealer must be first class. At least it didn’t burn up like some videos I’ve seen. Dugo was right about older stuff, but that stuff didn’t have to have all the emission junk or the electronics that you use. Maybe they’ll let you use the new S7 class, or maybe an X9.
@@robo1210 maybe in your experience, we have 6 of them with well over 3000 hours no issues. My dealer with over 200 construction and ag stores has never had 13.5 blow apart with 350 hours.
I worked on harvest crew in mid 90’s blew timing gear on R70 Gleaner. The mechanic crew pulled and replaced the motor in about 6 hours on the same day it broke It was very impressive.
Chet, Sorry for the unfortunate setback during harvest. I feel bad for Brody, even though it was not his fault, an operator always seem to second guess themselves. Just put it behind you Brody, all machines fail at some point regardless of color or brand. I wonder how your going to remove the header and the beans that are in the hopper, or can you close the hopper manually?
WOW, That thing went off like a Nissan ZD30 "Hand Grenade". That is terrible luck, no matter the colour, catastrophic failure like that with so few hours is rough. It would be a great time for Case to send you an AF11 to try :P Dougo straight to calling Cat/Case had me in tears :D "I need a new combine in anything but Green" :D
