Today we're going to take a quick look into deep lead mines.
A deep lead is an ancient riverbed which has been buried by lava flows or by deposition of new sedimentary layers. Just like present day watercourses, these ancient riverbeds could often contain gold.
A deep lead mine is an operation which digs down and takes out the rich washdirt of the ancient riverbed, then processes it for gold.

The last operating deep lead in Australia was an old Chinese show just out of Wedderburn, reopened and retimbered by Terry Frerk and his son, ex of Gormanstown, Queenstown and King Island. It was running only a few years back and producing an ounce a day. Brilliant video Michele, a fairdinkum masterpiece.

G'day again, awesome description of the deap leads, thank you. We have an old silver mine up here in Emmaville, it was the richest silver mine in NSW before they discovered Broken Hill. The shaft go's down 780ft with drive's driven off on multiple levels. The Webb's collision mine.
