Ali G lives in Australia Isla Fisher and her husband Sacha Baron Cohen left Los Angeles to bring up their family in Australia and their new home in the actress' home country is stunning. Its a shame you missed Hosier Lane, its a stone throw from Flinders st Station and has the best street art as it is where it started. The council allowed graffiti in that laneway so people didn't graffiti where it wasn't wanted. You might have noticed that the artists are well behaved and refrain from painting over windows and signage. A word of caution though, do not stand still too long in Hosier Ln or somebody will likely spray paint you.

The art is always changing, especially in Hosier Lane. If you come back to Melbourne for another grand final, make sure you visit Fitzroy. Some of the best art is in that suburb, not only the main streets, but in a lot of the alley ways as well.

The 'log' art on the river bank at 4:20 are actually the old wharf pylons from the old timber wharves that were located there in colonial times. The pylons were recycled by being given to local artists to reinterpret, so they have a history relating to their location. They are located in Enterprize Park which has nothing to do with Star Trek but is named after the sailing ship the first European settlers sailed in from Tasmania to found the city in 1835. There is a replica of the Enterprize that does tours of Port Phillip and has a cannon that fires ... I have been a target. Fortunately only blanks.
@neolex001
@neolex001 Год назад
@7:35: 'Ruined...' but THAT is the whole point of graffiti art. It's ephemeral; it's not meant to last. Just ask Banksy. You've seen that image in the way you saw it at that moment... and you'll never see it again.
@neolex001
@neolex001 Год назад
@The Truth and while I recognise your opinion, I challenge it. There is an 'unspoken stature of limitations' on street art. One a piece is completed, it gets a period of grace to be appreciated. But its on a 'public wall' and can't stay forever. It's time is limited. Once the 'idiots' start chipping away, the space is fair game. Law of the jungle. Hurumphing about it won't change that. Why would Banksy actively fight against the preservation attempts of his art, or indeed have some of it self-destruct upon auction? Because it's the limited period of its existence that makes it most valuable. His 'hard work' is secondary.
@neolex001
@neolex001 Год назад
@The Truth Agreed, taggers are a nuisance, but are part of the process. Their work is far from art (more of an untreated OCD compulsion, but thats another discussion), but the true artists use them to make their own. They build sand castles, knowing the tide is going to come in. They don’t get angry at the water.

What a brutal edit at the start there 😂 I understood Charlie perfectly well And also, I never really noticed because I mostly became a fan of yours just coz you were into footy, so I didn’t ever give that much thought to why I’ve stayed invested in your channel, but you’re actually a really good presenter Rob! It’s taken me seeing you in public with people in the background reacting with a bit of “are they filming something?” energy to remember that what you do, talking to a camera isn’t ‘normal’ even in today’s age (when you’re recording at home I take it for granted that you’re speaking to a camera, of course you are you’re vlogging). Just saw some gen Z girls at my gym film a promo for the gyms Insta and they were way less natural in front of the camera. It’s occurred to me that you do actually have that sort of quality and style that makes you seem like you’re properly recording a travel show or something in some of these scenes, not just being a random tourist recording a shaky phone video to show the family something when you get home. I have no idea if any of the motivation for you starting your channel was to do any professional work in front of a camera but if it was I reckon it would definitely be worth auditioning

I struggled to work out what Charlie said and I'm the one that gave her the lines to speak! 😃 Oh I would love to work in front of a camera. I was on a dating show once and loved being Infront of the screen. It sometimes comes across like I'm taking over the video and Charlie doesn't get to speak enough but she is less confident and it would be a very quiet vlog otherwise. I do try and get the atmosphere of the location as well as learning and exploring. The vlogs arnt just about us. It's about taking you along with us. Thank you so much for your kind words!

There is also a Bar/Restaurant called Fat Bob's just outside in the south east of Melb in Moorabbin. It is hidden away with a tiny small entrance in a very heavy factory area. The deceptively decently sized whole place revolves around a bloke who salvaged tonnes of old, and some antique, neon sign boards. He built his Bar completely around the signs to show them off for people to enjoy.

Love your attention to filming your pieces to camera in different styles and shots. Great editing as well! There might be a history/pattern to the street names in Melbourne’s CBD…. Brisbane has around 10 gridded streets in the heart of its CBD, and the streets going roughly northsouth are named after English kings and the eastwest ones are queens. Makes it a little easier to navigate. If you’re in a car though, working out which streets are one way streets is not so easy.

@@melissabarrett9750 no excuse . theres millions of walls they can practice on . doing it to someones art work is disrespectful , and more likely jealousy

@@DeclannShieldsFilms im sure the artists would prefer they didnt , and its not like you can sit there and make sure noone does tag it , but why should you ? why cant ppl leave whats not theirs alone ? basic manners my parents taught me when i was a kid . and it looks crap . so theres no point to it other than ego .

@@durv13 the same could be said about the beautiful graffiti though, they have no right to that space more than anyone else - they’re tagging too, just putting more effort into it! Again, everyone involved would be very aware of the fact that their graffiti will be removed or painted over - the impermanence is part of the fun! If they didn’t want people to tag over it they certainly wouldn’t be doing graffiti on hosier lane!

Rabbit.. we don't have hamsters in OZ. A small amount of this is art but most is just graffiti and looks disgusting
