Produced nearly 20 years after Kreig Teague's historic 1979 appearance on The Price Is Right, this special breaks it all down. How did Kreig make it onto the show? Was she playing up her Plano, Texas roots for Bob Barker? How did Stephen Teague's insistent yell from the audience change the game?

@@MilesFromExtraordinary they still have to pay taxes and fees either way. Most shows won't give the contestant a choice of a cash equivalent. And yes, if you don't happen to make a lot of money and foolishly agree to terms and conditions because you don't understand and think it's really it can be a burden. The value of the car is considered income and is taxable, then there's the title transfer fee, registration fee, insurance that's due up front, documentation fee, etc. So if you win $70k truck that 70 grand is income added to what you current income which can push you into a higher tax bracket.

Not only Price is Right but just all entertainment was better back then. Nothing better than gathering around for your weekly tv show. Also, the same with your favorite band. There was no instant access like there is today so when a new magazine came out or a tv interview, it was super exciting. I tried to tell my daughter how things were more exciting back in the day. She said it would be annoying to have to wait. But we didn’t know any different and the build up, waiting for the things we enjoyed, made it so much better when it did come around.

I hope you have a southern accent, cause I read your comment with one. (It wasn't a fake one, either, because I've got one, too!😁) Lol, anyway, I was born in '71, (proud Gen Xer!) and I agree with you 100%! My daddy was a career Navy man, so we grew up in Navy housing until I started 9th grade when he retired, so we were sheltered just a little bit more than average. I know things were starting to change, but back then we had no idea... Until we heard about poor Adam Walsh. We happened to be stationed in Orlando when it happened. I can tell you, all my little friends and I were terrified. I had just turned 10, 9 days before he was taken. I even remember my mom being upset about it all. Then, 2 years later I turned 12 and started Jr. High in 7th grade, (I don't think there were middle schools yet. If there were, I had never heard of them in all the different places I'd ever lived) and it was the first time I was going to a school that wasn't all military kids. I was absolutely traumatized for the next 2 years after what I saw on the way to school on my bus. We were less than 1\4 mile from the school when I looked out my window and saw 2 girls who were supposed to be walking to school, on the ground. One girl was on her back, the other sitting on top of her pounding her face in with both fists! I remember exactly what I was saying to myself, and how I felt, like it was yesterday! This is waaay too long and nobody cares, so I'mma just stop here. Sorry! 😁

I have a question from when you were on the show. If you won anything, did you have to pay the sales tax for items won plus the income taxes for the market retail value of the prizes you won before you got to collect your prizes?. I'm asking out of curiosity because a friend once told me that you could not get the prizes won until the sales taxes were paid and if you could not afford to do so you forfeit the prizes and they would use them in other shows, plus that you have to claim the full retail value of prizes won on your income tax return?. Asking out of curiosity.
