Omg! I'll be watching cuz I was there. Right as everyone was kicking it into high gear, the dark clouds came and rained HARD. It interrupted Nobody's Fault But Mine which followed the first song which I think was TSRTS. The tarp over the stage filled and was all bellied out with water. They had to slash it and resulted in getting the stage all wet. Too much danger of electrocution. I remember as we went inside under the stands, Robert announcing that "We'll give you your money back". They did. I think the tickets were $20. USD. Tampa Stadium was brand new then. Now it's gone and replaced. The crowd on the field got wild and started throwing things and they called it rioting but I was out of there before seeing any of that. Even though I've seen Led Zeppelin several times, that was the last time I saw Robert Plant until 1995 - Page/Plant in Chicago. AND now I have been blessed to have seen him with Alison Krauss just last night at Ravinia. Thank you for your channel and what you do. You are a true fan.

Actually, the tix were only $10! We ducked out as soon as they said it was postponed til the next day. We went up Dale Mabry to a plaza just north of Hillsborough Ave. and had a pizza while watching the riot unfold on a TV over the bar. SO wild. I was 15 and conned the guy into letting me call my mom (it was long distance in those days) because I knew she was seeing it too, and I didn't want her to worry.

I was there too. Tickets were $10.00 "rain or shine" printed right on the silver ticket. I lost mine because it got all wet and designated . I was right up front. Second song was The Rover intro into Sick Again. They were on fire that night, especially John Bonham . It would have been a great show. I almost got trampled in the melee. Long live Rock!!

Yep, I remember the silver tickets. I should have saved them as memorabilia but I mailed them back. I'm not sure how many songs were played but it was barely into the meat of the show. I remember Jimmy had a hat on of some kind. Rock on bruh! Still rockin' at 71!

I think LZ should have had someone at the TV station to get weather reports, so that they could have just waited an hour or more to perform. Certainly other Zep shows were delayed for an hour or more due to "other" issues, so why not here??? I blame Peter Grant. He's great, but he is definitely perfect!!!

Great episode! Didn’t know, that the few numbers, they played, were actually tight. Could have been a great show for 1977. Another „what if“ in the Zeppelin universe.

I was in the Navy stationed in Jacksonville and a bunch of us drove to this show. It was HOT, sat on the field all day. It was the first time I had yogurt, Dannon Strawberry. When the rain came the tarp covering the field was ripped up and used as a roof over our heads. Heard bottles and stuff bouncing off stuff on the stage and it was getting crazy. I decided to get out of the insanity by slowly working my way out of the crowd to the perimeter. It was very slow going, took about a half hour. When I finally made it to the edge, when I was climbing up into the seated area, there was a huge roar from the crowd. As I turned toward the stage I saw a line of police in riot gear with clubs arrayed across the entire end of the stadium advancing slowly into the crowd swinging their batons from side to side. The huge mass of people on the ground all turned at once and began to flee away from the stage, screaming, tripping, as many were trampled underfoot! Most amazing thing I've seen until this very day, dreamlike! By then the rain had stopped and it was beautiful! BTW, I did receive a refund for my ticket!

Another great vid JCM. I do believe that this well could have been the best show of the tour if not for Mother Nature's intervention. I was too young to see the band in 1977. I happened to be in NYC on Saturday 6/11/77. I took a ride in with my Dad who needed to see a doctor downtown as he was a NYC firemen. I cannot tell you how electric the city was that day - so much activity as we approached MSG - and there was planes writing in the sky above NYC: "Led Zeppelin - Tonight - MSG - SOLD OUT!".
@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories

I can only imagine the electricity you mention in NYC, there's a special energy to the city with Led Zeppelin there. Tampa had so much potential, open air venues were tricky but they made it work until thunderstorms thought otherwise! Thanks for watching Thomas!

What do you mean, “the night Led Zeppelin faced nature’s fury”? The fury of nature (John Bonham) was with them at every show...joking aside, it seems that Mother Nature did not bow to the power of Zeppelin. A huge risk for everyone, in these moments common sense must prevail. A shame, it certainly would have been a monumental show. I liked knowing more details about this. Thank you Jose, good job as always!

Hi Marcia! Glad you enjoyed this one. The vibe in Tampa makes me think the show could have been a top 3 for 1977. Tampa was synonym with a record breaking concert in 1973. Now sports wise the 1976 NFL Buccaneers lost 26 games that year, the stadium had bad vibes since past its renovation in 1974. There's actually a great NFL FILMS doc here on YT that works as a great complimentary piece for this episode.

Woah, excellent, this had real atmosphere to it in the buildup and the blue hues you used here. What a tantalizing start to the show they gave the fans, we can only imagine how it'd have gone on if they'd been able to maintain that opening standard. Just a small aside. I have seen those 2 photos of the blackboard before, but never knew till this that they were taken in Tampa-I always learn something from you😊 I know your caption said one of the kids was Warren Grant and I'd read the other was Jason Bonham. If that was true, it made me wonder how often Bonzo's family did join him on the road. We hear a lot about him missing them, but it seems they were here this night (and perhaps at the Badge holders show based on some of Robert's naughty Plantations?). Anyhow, thanks again as always.
@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories
@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories 3 месяца назад
Glad the Blue Colors matched the story. I just pictured the thunderstorm and an "underwater" feel to the chaos at the stadium. So the blackboard photograph yes, it can be found credited Warren Grant and Jason. Here's the thing, i don't think Bonzo's family was with him on the road. We know July 1977 at least only Warren was with the entourage. Also Jason was 8 years old and somehow it doesn't look like him. Being the Bonham's so fond of their dear Britain i think Bonzo and Page remained away from their families while embracing their personal lifestyle choices at the time. Now Jonesy's family was there so it adds to the mystery cause then we should have at least one account of Pat Bonham on the history books.

In the aftermath of the rained out and curtailed Tampa, FL 1977 show - and after the first two of (six sold-out nights) at Madison Square Garden in New York - Jimmy Page, on a (rainy afternoon) visiting a NY radio station during his day off - was told by Manhattan disc jockey and interviewer, Scott Muni of WNEW FM: ‘Well, Jimmy, you don’t have to worry about the rain here in New York.’ 🌃☔ He then asked Jimmy: ‘How did the first night at the Garden feel?’ To which, Jimmy replied: ‘The first night was really *ELECTRIFYING*.’ LOL! 🎸⚡⚡ In every one of the records, tapes and stereo/hi-fi electronics sections in all the department stores I shopped at during the spring of 1977, ‘Dreams’ by Fleetwood Mac, from their album, *Rumours* was CONSTANTLY playing on the local rock station. 🏬🎸🔊🎶💤 After hearing Fleetwood Mac bassist, John McVie’s bass playing, I kept telling myself: I need to go and buy a real hi-fi system - with deep, powerful and solid bass response. So, the following year in September 1978, I bought my first genuine, 55-watt per channel, high-powered, hi-fi stereo system with separate components: A receiver, turntable and a pair of (acoustic suspension design) speakers with 10-inch woofers. Previously, I only had a cheap, low-power, all-in-one stereo turntable, AM/FM tuner & 8-track cartridge combination - purchased at my local drug store and received as an early present in 1976 for my 12th birthday. However, in the autumn of 1977, I did buy another all-in-one that was a little bit better - with bigger speakers - but still not true hi-fi. 🎂

I've never understood - either then or now - how Zeppelin was so reviled in the press over stuff like this. Like it was their fault that a biblical storm made for catastrophic results if they kept playing. Of course, if they kept playing and disaster happened they would have gotten slammed for that.
