Republican gubernatorial candidate for Michigan Ralph Rebandt was caught off guard by comedian Jason Selvig when he was pressed about wanting the Bible to be a “basic textbook in schools”. Once Selvig got Rebandt to agree that books featuring pornographic imagery should be banned in schools, Selvig pulled a fast one and mentioned that the Bible also features plenty of pornographic content. "Ralph Rebandt, a Republican candidate for Michigan governor, says he wants the Bible to “be the basic textbook in schools.” It’s a position he came to regret in a recent interview with comedian Jason Selvig.
Selvig, part of the conservative-skewering comedy duo The Good Liars, got Rebandt to agree to ban books from schools that have porn pornographic imagery in them. Selvig then pointed out that the Bible has a story about two daughters who get their dad drunk and have sex with them - it’s in the Book of Genesis, chapter 9, verses 30 to 37.
This is where the interview went hilariously south for the Republican.
“You’re saying banned the Bible in school?” Selvig asked Rebandt.
“No, I’m not saying ban the Bible in school,” Rebandt replied.
“You’re saying anything that has a pornographic image should be banned,” Selvig reminded him.
“And there are some images in the Bible about, you know, sex and incest and things like that. So it sounds like you’re saying we should ban the Bible.”
Rebandt answered, “What I am saying is that the Judeo Christian principles on which our country was founded need to be brought back into culture. And I can’t say it any more clearly than that.”"

@@williamplatt1641 well, in fairness to the bible, the actual quote is: “For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. My father spent 46 years in public education; teacher, coach, principal, University teacher of teachers. He used to tell me that as a principal, every few years a group of "citizens" would come ask him about having prayer in the public school. My father said that he would respond, "Fine, no problem: AS LONG AS I GET TO WRITE THE PRAYER!" When the "citizens" indignantly responded, "Why should you write the prayer??" he would answer, "WHY SHOULD YOU?" My father used to say that if a tornado was coming toward the school and the janitor jumped up on the table and commanded, "Everybody pray the tornado misses the school", that was "establishment!!" If a student did the same thing, that was freedom of speech!! My dad was a deacon and head usher in his church and in all my growing up, he seldom if ever missed Sunday services. (If he or we were on the road, we attended a random church in another town.) It really doesn't seem like much of a quandary, does it??? School is for learning. If you want your kid to learn about his faith or religion, take him to church or teach him at home!!!

Precisely, religion has nothing to do with God. It has to do with control. Which is why I consider myself a Christian, a disciple of Christ's teachings, but do not consider myself religious. Religions were created to exclude people from God not the bring them to Him until those in power decided they could use religion as an excuse for conquest then it became paramount that all those that were earlier excluded but forced to follow their beliefs. There's a scene in Family Guy, an occasionally funny mostly gross show, where two of the characters are time traveling through parallel universes and in one they have flying cars and instant vaccines and they comment that this is the universe where the Catholic church never existed. It's both funny and sad because we truly don't know all the knowledge this world has lots thanks to the Catholics burning the books written by "pagans" and heretics. It would've been nice to have a little more, for my parents to have a house of their own, but they still provided a lot for me. As far as political, it's when they tell who to vote for, or more accurately now adays, which party to vote for, that they become corrupted. Speaking about political issues is actually something I think they should do, they should speak up for the poor, for the immigrant, for the marginilized. Some have, like Martin Luther King Jr. or Dorothy Day. When they aren't in it for power, aren't seeking that, but instead putting those principles of service to others first, they have been a force in politics for good.

It's not the attendees we should be addressing here it is the church leadership that sullied the whole thing for me. Obviously, most of the people who have concerns for others within a congregation do pay taxes and contribute to causes that are indeed from a beautiful heart. The problem is people like Bennie Hinn and the like, who prey on others for profit and still don't pay taxes. If taxes are required to keep our country in service, everyone should participate, even those who claim religious immunity.

The US wasn't founded on ANY religion, quite the opposite, that's what separation of church and state means. And if it's Constitutionality we're talking about, putting bibles in classrooms would automatically make it compulsory to put the scriptures of all other religions in classrooms as well, as the state cannot promote one religion over any others within the Consitution. Besides, why would you want a book that's full of hate for outsiders, murder, rape, incest, oppression of minorities (including women) and blood sacrifice in a classroom, polluting the minds of impressionable children before they've developed the reasoning capacity to decide for themselves without being indoctrinated? Sounds like child abuse to me.

And before anybody wants to contradict me on the grounds that the Bible promotes kindness, let me tell them that most people are kind-it's in their nature. The US has a lot of Jewish people, but I've never seen one of them doing it. Paganism is the fastest growing religious segment in the US, but I've never seen a pagan doing it. The absurd level of arrogance displayed every day by US Christians, feeling entitled to invade every single corner of public life and social media, to prosthelytize about how their way is the only way, and the rest of us are going to rot in hell, just isn't seen in other modernized democracies. @@greeneyedlady5580 I don't think religious instruction belongs in the public classroom, so we are in agreement on that. I'm just saying that if you live in a free society, to not want to ever hear a view of a religion that a lot of people adhere to in that country is not realistic. Christians are the largest religious group in the US, so it makes sense that's what you would encounter most, and more here than other democracies for I don't think it is as much a part of people's lives in other democracies, they haven't had the revivals, like among some of the hippies in the 60s that spread into quite a movement, and a lot of other ones in our history. I could be wrong on that, but I do feel the history is different which has led to a higher participation, going to church, all of that, for worse or better, not making a judgement on that, but people are more religious here so you encounter it more. Of course we are both talking in vague terms, what defines more less for either of us in our statements? What qualifies as shoving it down your throat? I'd say trying to teach it in a classroom does, so I totally agree on that. However, this guy saying it doesn't mean that is what a majority of Christains want. I do see something that is not good happening in the American Church. Not in all branches, but it is there enough that it does need to be addressed, called out. This is the desire for power, to hold onto power, the fear that drives that, is definitely a strain of a virus that is shown in the Religious Right support of the Republican party despite the horrible things the Republican party has supported lately, like the overthrow of our democracy. The findings have been published in the scientific journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin. “Religiosity is a pervasive phenomenon. Its influence can be felt in all spheres of life. However, a sizeable portion of the population defines itself as atheist. Why do some people decide not to be religious? I thought it was an important and fascinating question,” said study author Miron Zuckerman of the University of Rochester. As mentioned, some people's a brand of Christianity isn't all that Christian. To take care of the poor the sick and in prison doesn't happen so much period it seems to be more full testament. God is supposed to say I like Christianity but not your Christians. However that can be said of many faiths and religions.

Our ancestors fought and died to obtain freedom from dictatorship forced by the British and create a new nation America. It is sad that Americans don't remember or care about why we fought for freedom and why the declaration of independence, Bill of Rights and the constitution was created by our two parties. The desire for freedom from British rule stemmed from several key reasons: 1. **Taxation without Representation:** The colonies were being taxed by the British government without having any representatives in the British Parliament. This lack of representation led to resentment among the colonists who believed they were being unfairly taxed. 2. **Limitations on Trade and Economy:** British policies restricted the colonies' economic growth by imposing trade regulations that favored British businesses. This hindered the colonies' ability to develop their own industries and trade freely with other nations. 3. **Violation of Civil Liberties:** The British government imposed various laws that the colonists saw as infringing upon their rights and freedoms, such as the Quartering Act, which allowed British soldiers to lodge in private homes, and the issuance of writs of assistance that authorized searches without warrants. 4. **Desire for Self-Governance:** Colonists believed in their right to govern themselves and make decisions that directly affected their lives. They sought autonomy in managing their local affairs and wanted to establish their own government that would represent their interests. The culmination of these grievances led to the drafting and signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, declaring the colonies' independence from British rule and marking the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. The certain rights that were highlighted in the Declaration of Independence are often referred to as natural rights or unalienable rights. They include: 1. **Life:** This means the right to live freely and without fear for one's life being taken unjustly. 2. **Liberty:** This refers to personal freedom-the ability to make choices about one's life, beliefs, and actions without unnecessary restrictions. 3. **Pursuit of Happiness:** This encompasses the right to pursue personal fulfillment, happiness, and well-being in one's own way, as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others. After the Declaration of Independence, these ideas influenced the creation of the Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution. The Bill of Rights specifically outlines various rights and freedoms that are legally protected for all citizens. For example: - The First Amendment guarantees freedom of speech, religion, and the press. - The Second Amendment addresses the right to bear arms. - The Fourth Amendment protects against unreasonable searches and seizures. - The Eighth Amendment prohibits cruel and unusual punishment. These rights, among others, were enshrined in law to ensure that citizens have certain fundamental freedoms and protections against government overreach or infringement on their liberties or family lives. The United States was not founded as a Christian nation in terms of being officially tied to any specific religion. The founding principles emphasized freedom of religion, allowing individuals to practice any faith or no faith at all without government interference. The First Amendment to the Constitution explicitly prohibits the establishment of a state religion and protects the freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and the right to petition the government. This separation of church and state ensures that the government does not favor or endorse any particular religion. Regarding language, while English became the predominant language over time due to the majority of settlers being English-speaking, there was no official declaration designating English as the "true" language. The U.S. has always been diverse linguistically, and there has never been an official national language at the federal level. The idea of the United States was to be a place where people from various backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs could coexist and contribute to the nation's growth without any single religion or language being imposed on everyone. The founding of the United States didn’t directly address medical decisions, family planning, or birth control as we might understand them today. The focus was primarily on establishing a new form of government that protected individual freedoms and rights, including the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness. The government's role in personal medical decisions or family planning wasn’t a central part of the founding principles. The emphasis was on limiting government interference in personal matters and ensuring individual autonomy. Over time, debates about personal freedoms, including healthcare choices, reproductive rights, and family planning, have evolved and continue to be topics of discussion and debate within the framework of constitutional rights and legal interpretations. The founding principles intended to create a nation where individuals had the freedom to make personal choices within the bounds of the law without undue government intrusion or control over these private matters The founding principles of the United States didn’t advocate for unchecked power for politicians without accountability. Instead, the system was designed with several mechanisms to ensure accountability: 1. **Elected Representatives:** Politicians are elected by the people to represent their interests. Through regular elections, citizens have the power to choose their representatives and hold them accountable for their actions and decisions. 2. **Separation of Powers:** The government was structured with a system of checks and balances, dividing power among three branches-executive, legislative, and judicial. Each branch has specific powers and can check the actions of the others, preventing any single branch from becoming too dominant. 3. **Constitutional Limits:** Politicians are bound by the Constitution, which outlines the framework of government and protects citizens' rights. Any action that violates the Constitution can be challenged in the courts, ensuring adherence to the rule of law. 4. **Transparency and Oversight:** Government actions are subject to scrutiny and oversight. There are processes such as congressional hearings, investigative journalism, and public access to government information that help keep politicians accountable for their decisions and actions. While the system was designed with mechanisms for accountability, ensuring that politicians remain accountable to the people who elected them is an ongoing process. Citizens' participation in the democratic process through voting, advocacy, and engagement with elected officials plays a crucial role in maintaining accountability within the government. Certainly, here are examples of potential legal consequences for attempting to overturn an election through various unlawful means: 1. **Abuse of Power:** - **Legal Proceedings:** Individuals accused of abusing their official capacity might face investigations, impeachment proceedings, or civil lawsuits. - **Consequences:** If found guilty, consequences could range from removal from office to fines, loss of benefits, or disqualification from holding public office in the future. - **Legal Penalties:** Conviction could result in criminal penalties such as fines, imprisonment, or probation, depending on the severity and scope of the conspiracy. Violations severe enough to potentially result in imprisonment for an elected official found guilty of violating their oath to the Constitution typically involve serious criminal offenses or egregious breaches of the law. These could include: 2.**Perjury or False Swearing:** Lying under oath, especially when the false statement is material to an investigation or legal proceeding. 3.**Violations of Civil Rights:** Engaging in actions that knowingly and willfully deprive individuals of their constitutionally protected civil rights. It is crystal clear why we sought our independence from the British and the years it took leaders to create our democracy based on 3 branches. If we allow representatives of office to disregard or obey the laws that make up our democracy we will carry the disquieting thoughts and burdens of our died forefathers blood wasted on our failure to make their existence mean nothing. Our courts and juries make decisions of guilty or innocent by the evidence. If we allow spoken words, written text, witness, and video showing accountability and enough evidence to draw a conclusion. Whether our values align more with right and left, we must have standards, responsibilities, accountability, and repercussions on our actions, decision, and accept responsibility for them.

The Bible is the oldest Dirty Joke book in the world. When you understand the metaphors and symbolisms in the text, you soon realize that those who wrote it were mixing deep spiritual subjects, with off colored humor. It took me a long time to grasp this. The gags and jokes are sophisticated. I am sure when the Bible (Old and New Testament) were being written, they were thinking of ways to illustrate the wise ideas in the text. But, realized that many would be very oblivious to them, then decided to wrap them in the Dirty Jokes of their time period. In my many notebooks is a subject, The Oldest Dirty Joke Book. All verses in the Bible are very old dirty jokes, some that date back to ancient Sumer. In short, The Bible is the oldest book with very sophisticated pornography.

The writing style of the Bible in the original languages is in the style of a storyteller. They would tell only half of the story, and you would need to fill in the rest of the details. Or they would tell a story, where you needed to visualize the descriptions. Hebrew is a visual language. Here are three examples. Read Ezekiel 23:20. Where it reads "As the flesh of asses," this is implying the penis of a donkey. So, you must visualize the donkey's member. Same thing when it says, "Issue of Horses." Imagine a horse dick spewing out jizz. The writer is expecting the reader to get very visual with very saucy imagination, in order to fathom the depths of the visual quality of this verse. Read Genesis 19:30-38. Lot and his two daughters are in a cave. His daughters get him drunk so they can have sex with him. THAT is some back woods incest stuff going on. And the daughters even have kids. Imagine what kind of kids they have!!! Men in the Bible are not that smart. Here is a fun one. Read Genesis 26:8. King Abimelech is watching Isaac and Rebecca getting it on. The King James version uses the word " sporting". In Hebrew, it uses Metzachq. In Hebrew this means 'Make fun, or from laughing.' The English reader of 1611 will get right away what is going on. Here we have themes of voyeurism and exhibitionism. Genesis uses polite words anticipating that the reader will get the point as to what Isaac and Rebecca are doing. I hope this grabs your curiosity. Here is my hypothesis as to why there are very saucy verses all over the Bible. The writers wrote great ideas of spiritual knowledge. They also recognized that the average person would not get them. So, they wrote what is known as grabber words or grabber verses. Thus, wrapping spiritual wisdom in nasty and smutty phrases. I hope you have enjoyed these brief descriptions. @@robertstrong6639
