Lots of guitarists can rip up and down the neck and have crowds of people screaming after them, but NOBODY can make a guitar sing like David Gilmour can. Nobody.

David Gilmour's Comfortable Numb solo, especially as performed on the Pulse tour, is right up there with the Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo's David, the Mona Lisa, Starry Night, The Pietà, Venus de Milo, The Thinker, etc. A true work of art. Incredible.

In August 1971, when Pink Floyd were simply the best progressive/psychedelic rock band in the world (8 years before The Wall), they toured Australia. They played a single Friday night gig in Melbourne, then another single (open-air) gig in Sydney on the Sunday afternoon. There was no light show, nothing visual at all. Just them. I saw the Friday night show in Melbourne, then dropped everything and hitchhiked the 600 miles to Sydney next day to see them play again on the Sunday. They were that good.

This solo, this whole show is out of this world. It comes very close to perfection. And I think that's exactly what it is. It's not perfect, it's close but not perfect. It's rough and raw. You need 3 things for a good show. A good band, a cool light show and David Gilmour on guitar.

Damn, I didn't even know the Pulse solo was cut lol. I don't know why though, as I'm pretty sure the extra minute of the guitar solo wasn't enough to be warranted to be cut. Maybe pacing? I don't know, I do like that part they cut. I'm glad that it exists, as an extra minute of that guitar solo just makes it even better than it already is.

I remember seeing them around 1994 at Clemson Death Valley stadium. It was this same tour. One of the most amazing things I’ve ever experienced. I was around 22 or 23 years old, I’m 50 now. Time goes by too fast people. This concert was yesterday for me. It was a religious experience.

even though Roger Waters wrote this song, David Gilmour owns it with his vocal and guitar performance. his voice pierces through with such clarity and depth and we all grew up with it. Rick Wright singing the Waters parts is pretty amazing. I can't help but wonder what they're all thinking as they perform this. So much back story.

I've been hunting around for uncut versions of songs from PULSE, and this looks fantastic. I've been able to find High Hopes, On the Run, One of These Days, and Sorrow, but none in as good quality as this.

I saw them on this tour. One of the most signify any days of my life. I remember them also playing Comfortably Numb. I was in awe the whole time. Time stood still

1995 on #mymusicalroadto50 Pink Floyd - Pulse I remember walking into HMV in the Bentalls Centre in Kingston and facing a big bank of these CD’s with flashing red lights on the spine. I picked up one of them as a purchase that day. After managing to see one of the Earls Court shows the year before, this was a nice record (pardon the pun there) of that experience. The album showcased most of what I had heard that night. “One of These Days” was omitted but appeared on the vinyl edition a short while later which I dived into my pocket for also. The show I attended only played selections of “The Dark Side Of The Moon”. One of the other concerts from that Earls Court run ended up being broadcast on TV (which I think this footage is from). I managed to video record this, and the entire evening of programmes dedicated to the Floyd on a Dolby stereo recorder I was hiring from Radio Rentals at the time. That broadcast had the whole of that album. It also didn’t have a whole section of the crowd collapse onto the floor, such was the case with one of the earlier shows in that run at the same venue. The album itself is far far superior to “The Delicate Sound Of Thunder” for the previous tour. I don’t mean the package itself (even though this one is physically more satisfying) but also the performances. I played this CD edition a lot. It also used to travel around with me in the car. Because of that, it didn’t get looked after as well as a few. I suppose out of all the tracks on this, the most played would have been this track. “Run Like Hell” was obviously more impressive visually and the explosion at the end was way way louder than you could imagine if you were there. I mean that bang was LOUD! “Comfortably Numb” though was, and still is, my favourite. It’s also travelled with me from that point ever since. I have needed this song in my life, especially in moments of crisis. And each time it has helped me break through to the light at the other end. To be around when I had the opportunity to experience Pink Floyd in some shape or form, and to have this music in my lifetime, I am very fortunate indeed.

Apart from the slightly bad sound quality, I actually prefer this mix over the official version. Not only because of the complete solo, but the mix itself sounds clearer. You can hear the individual instruments much better here.

Went to this concert tour and out of the hundreds of shows I’ve seen, this song was just extraordinary and memorable. Unbelievable staging and unbelievable guitar solo.

We all agree that one of the keys to David’s playing here is his restraint, but I want to shout out to Nick and Rick for their own calm restraint. Everyone takes their time and lets the whole develop.

In my opinion, of which means nothing, this is the greatest composition in recent history. Between the rhythm section's temper and cadence (both up and down), with Gilmour's super-clean wailing as the melody, underlaid by Waters' foundation, it's just magic. Every time I hear this arrangement, I cannot help but to close my eyes and to listen, to focus, on the musical phrases, and to get sucked into the emotion of the composition. I am grateful that I've been fortunate enough to see this performed live. Truly an amazing experience, and an amazing composition. Hats off to PF for not only Comfortably Numb, but all of their contribution to great music. Fantastic.
