Not very many youtubers will show repairs like this and I appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos. Thank you so much, and also for showing the tools and products you use.

I think it's better to show how I do it then have people experiment on their own with methods that do more harm.

Ooooh that one has seen better days for sure. Poor old thing. I always throw them little bits that fall off away! Yes don't forget to read it, that's a very important part of the process for sure. Very cool to watch and hear your commentary mate, I wonder if it's worth getting all that gear and spruce up a couple of my older comics. I have a rusty staple, do you think I should take it out and throw it away or replace it maybe?
@KollectingKaos
@KollectingKaos 4 года назад
it depends on the staple, if it's just a bit of surface rust, white vinegar can remove it, but don't leave it in more than a few hours, the first time I left one in for two days by accident and it was almost completely gone when I came back. Once the rust is off, you might want to coat the staple with a varnish to keep it from returning. Make sure it is completely dry before putting it back in the comic. You can replace them, but make sure you use staples from another comic from about the same year.

@@thegreyman If the rust bleed on the cover is called "rust migration" and there is nothing you can do about it.

Sounds like a candidate for advanced conservation methods. It might take me a while to do a video on that. If you need information from me for shipping you can contact me on Instagram just do a search for kollectingkaos

Thanks for the video….very helpful. I noticed you only put the mending tape on the inside of the cover; on the torn area around the staples, is it “sticky” on the other side of the cover? I thought you might put tape on the outside as well. Seems like the exposed tape would be sticky around the staples once re-attached.
@KollectingKaos
@KollectingKaos 3 года назад
yes, but I use a dusting of Methyl celulose to get rid of the sticky, I suppose I should show that at some point as well.

@@KollectingKaos can you give me any details on what that is or how I would buy it? I googled it and it sounds like a type of laxative, so I’m not sure I’m looking at the right thing. 😆

Could you repair a book for me, of course for a charge... Thanks...
@KollectingKaos
@KollectingKaos 2 года назад
There is a liability issue that keeps me from doing repairs for other people. Even if you made an agreement that you would not hold me accountable if I made the book worse, I would still feel obligated to replace it with a copy as good as or better than the original. That is what keeps me from working on comics that I do not own. Thank you for the question though.

Your early Tarzan issues are they by the artist ..Hogarth or some other notable person..
@KollectingKaos

Hogarth did the early newspaper strips, I haven't really looked that close at the art on those early issues, but I am fairly sure it isn't his.
