Classical multiplayer game: someone explodes early, people join forces to beat him down, then they proceed to try and destroy each other and the guy that was just sitting there doing nothing wins the game.
I think that the best videos you guys make are these 4 man free-for-alls. They align to what most folks' commander experience is actually like, and you all have different personalities that go well together. Great video!
That production halt with the sol Ring was hilarious! I do like that you guys are doing different ideas on these decks though. If anyone really complains about the decks not being optimized, you could always do a "broken Commander" episode to show the other side of the format
I see Wes is back on his favorite deck: mono-misplays. At least he didn't have to play a blue deck like it was a green deck this time, now he actually had a green deck to play like a green deck.
+STFUandSTFD A bit late to this party, but that one wasn't a misplay. The player to his left also had elves, said he had a way to give his elf trample, and had a pretty well-known desire to go after Parnell. Killing another ten goblins (less really, since Parnell could have sacrificed six to regenerate another six, so he'd only lose seven total) wasn't nearly as relevant as letting Stephen beat over the blockers and take out Parnell. Not making wolves was a mistake and far from the only one, but he used Timberwatch at the best time.
I would love to see a budget black deck lol loved the video and the hilarious pause for the sol ring xD Love that copy of the card too! Multi games are awesome keep em coming! Good for ideas and changes!
Really enjoyed being able to watch a budget Commander game from you guys! It's really intriguing to watch 4 different archetypes, that can be ridiculous when you put money into them, still be powerful with just a $100 put into them, which is really important for starving poor college kids like myself. :) Although I have to say I swooned when I saw Stephen play a Mishra's Workshop in a previous Commander video :p
I really enjoyed that this video more so than your others (the others are great, don't get me wrong). It's really cool to see you guys who are usually running around with OG duals and the like to play with decks that i might use. Also the production text was really great, hope that sticks around
Krenko+thornbite staff+skirk prospector. Infinite mana/sack outlet/token gen. Equip krenko with thornbite staff, tap krenko to make goblins, sac a token to skirk, you get 1 mana, have more goblins than you started with, and krenko untaps. Enjoy.
I Loved this pair of video. They feel a lot more like what my friends and I will play than the regular videos. These lists are great basis to upgrade from instead of an all digested product. Please, Please please please make more of those "on a budget" videos!
42:40 couldnt justin have used his Skirk Fire Marshal and tapped 10 of his goblins that were blocking to deal 20 damage to everything, killing jon and stephen, leaving him with 3 life
I really hope we get more of these types of videos, budget decks are fun to watch and can lead to interesting match ups. And let's face it, competitive decks would lead to shorter videos XD
Great game, Wes you suck at Math! I was inspired to build my own Krenko, Mob Boss deck to go along side my elf deck that I already had. Krenko is amazing when you don't limit yourself to the $100 budget. Thanks for all the ideas!
I enjoyed this budget video a whole lot. EDH is a format focused on having fun and playing cool cards that wouldn't see play anywhere else. I do have to admit that the 'normal' vids become a little bit generic sometimes. We know you're gonna fetch your dual land, we know you gonna tutor X, etc. This vid was gold, just like the unhinged one from a month ago.
I was really hoping that in response to the second pump trigger that made the elf lethal, Justin would fire marshall twice, kill John and Steven and stay in against Wes.
When anyone takes FOREVER on their turn... my and/or my buddy will q up the Harlem Globetrotters theme... we call stalling like Wes did "globetrotting"
On the topic of commander being an expensive format. I feel differently. When I (and most of my friends) got into the format we just built from our collection. From there you slowly upgrade through odd trades and occasional buys to slowly make them stronger. Buying one of your (usual) decks might be expensive, but that's - I think - the wrong way to think about it.
It would be really helpful if the editing team could maybe highlight or select the player's name who's turn it is? Sometimes it gets pretty confusing as to who's turn it actually is :) The videos are still great though c:
It looks like you guys did a lot more in terms of developing board presence, and casting cards on time with these budget decks, then I've ever seen with your "normal" decks. Maybe more budget decks? Or, alternatively, go all out and build $1000+ decks or something like that.
Hey SCG , I have wonderd too ask that from all the commander vs. I haven't seen a nekusar deck tech or even a game of that. Could you maybe do a video of that.?.just it would be intresting of the fun for who ever uses the deck haha. ^~^
I only play my Krenko in vs 1 or 2 other people. A 4 person game is risky, because before you can generate enough tokens, you'll have other token decks coming at you. Notice they forced him to go defensive as soon as Krenko hit the board.
why didn't parnell tap his board wipe shenanigans when the elf was tapped to buff the token? as a response he could of wiped board and still saced to his regenerate mechanic. could of kept board state for 10 life and go for win.
at minutes 38 to 41 ish Wes needed to pump those three elves with Timberwatch and Thousand-year elixir and they would have killed the goblins and lived
Well, yeah, but that would involve killing goblins, and Wes, being a kind hearted soul, new that killing goblins would have been cruel. Either that or he didn't realize.
I am sorry if I missed something, but when did danny west and david mcdarby leave? I not saying I dont like this set of players, but without danny and darby...
***** krenko is a bomb that just need 3 turns to get out of control is relly cheap since it wa reprinted in a duel deck speed vs cunning last year and the gobling decks have many pieces from that duel deck and since it war a really bad duel deck is really cheap right now
lol, there are a million comments yelling at Parnell to activate his Fire Marshall in response to receiving that lethal attack. Pay attention noobs; Suarez exiled it with STP a turn ago.
To answer Stephen at 54 minutes in, yes, it is a real thing. I took nearly 55 minutes to take one turn while playing mono green elves. I really needed to win and had to kill 3 other people.
+papernes I take a while sometimes with my Mono-U Wizards. Sometimes it can take a while to draw half my deck (typically a card or two at a time) to find my infinte mana combo or my infinite creature combo (my two primary kill-conditions).
Justin should've nuked the board for 10 damage three times with all the goblins he had while he was sitting at 23 life before he died. He would've tied the game.
BoWLKuTT Even if the Fire Marshall wasn't exiled, his first activation would've killed him. Because his effect says that HE deals damage, if he isn't there at the time of resolution, the spell fizzles. So even if he put all three on the stack, the ability would've fizzled after the first. Now, I didn't count the goblins, and maybe he could've regenerated enough after tapping 15 goblins. I don't know and it's too late to go back and try and figure it out.
So I was watching this and wondering "what is wrong with this episode, why it feels like it lacks something, why it's not as interesting as always". And there came the enlightment: no black in game. Don't get me wrong, it's still great episode, liked it very much, but here's the tip for future: no black = no fun :)
These guys need to read Caged Sun. Seems they're constantly misreading the card, it applies only to its controller, not to everyone. Even for the mana ability.
