41:45 - McDarby claims that an activated ability is a triggered ability. Additionally, Steel Hellkite's ability has no timing restricitions, it simply can only be activated once per turn. So, the second Steel Hellkite should have been able to eat Marchesa and Exava.

yeah, McDarby needs to look at the card again. it's an activated ability, that has a functionality condition. I can activate my hellkite for 0 once every turn and never attack anyone, it just won't do anything.

also, diluvian primordial is an ETB effect, so the damnation kills it, and dack's duplicate can't be it when it comes back.

furthermore, you can't respond to diluvian primordials ability starting to resolve with eternal witness to blank it. if did it in response to the trigger, then david mcdarby can still get another instant/sorcery out of his graveyard instead, since the ability never started resolving yet. That said, i'm not sure whether or not West had any other instant/sorceries or not.

RaiTsuka danny did do it in response to the trigger it was just short-cutted and since upon resolution of primordial's trigger since krosan's grip is not there, he cannot cast it so it fizzles on david's side. he does not get to choose another instant/sorcery just because his target wasn't in graveyard anymore .

devilboy561 You are correct, for some reason I was thinking the targets were chosen during resolution, not when the ability is put onto the stack. He casts primordial, chooses 3 targets, then waits for resolution. upon resolution, he chooses which of his targets to cast, and in what order, and then they all are put on the stack. My bad.

***** 58:00 it shouldn't have, because it didn't have a counter on it. It came into play, cast the 3 spells, one of which was damnation, and then should have died with everything else when damnation resolved. When did it get the counter to come back with Marchesa.

RaiTsuka That's wrong. The trigger goes on the stack with krosan grip as its target so the e witness can get back krosan grip with the trigger still on the stack and making krosan grip an illegal target.

When a player loses the game, their opponents only gain control of permanents they own that were taken under control until the end of turn. If said permanent was under their control but that effect does not end at the end of turn i.e. that eternal witness, it gets exiled.

Remember that destroying the commander and putting it in the command zone is not "die", because it have to go to the graveyard for that.

correct, the way Grenzo works, he puts cards from the bottom of your library into the graveyard. If it's a creature with power equal to or lower than Grenzo, put it onto the battlefield. The key here is that it is not "instead" so the creatures go to the graveyard from the bottom of the library, then get put into play. So they trigger Flayer of the Hatebound still.

I believe they are referring to Justin dealing damage for getting the E witness and Hellkite from Danny and Stephen. He should not have been able to but I'm pretty sure it wasn't that relevant.

at 27:40 Stephen pays one mana extra for the hellkite ability. heartstone in play affects his kites aswell, and he even took time to read the card...

flayer of the hatebound only checks when the creature enters from your graveyard, so it does not work with sepulchral primordial

That Eternal Witness came into play under Justin's control from Danny's graveyard. It should be exiled after Justin left the game. It came into play under his control, it was NOT under a control effect. This is similar to situations with Bribery. If it had been an effect like Gilded Drake, then Danny would have regained control.

Pretty sure there was a misplay at 27:31, because Heartstone reduces Steel Hellkite's X: ability by 1, so he would have been doing it for 3 not 2.

1:03:20 Flayer of the Hatebound's ability doesn't trigger. The effect asks if the card came from YOUR graveyard. Seeing as you are pulling all 3 creatures out of your opponents graveyards through Sepulchral Primordial's effect, none of them trigger Flayer's ability.

Justin shouldn't have been able to sack the token at 24:39 because heartstone cannot reduce the cost to less than 1 generic mana. this means that the sack cost would still have been 1 R

We have a player that tries to "cheat" like McDarby sometimes. In our playgroup that awarded him with the unwanted checkup of everything he did. And everytime he states something we stop the game and look up the official rulings. Yes, I know commander is a casual game, we only do that with people that tries to cheat or is overly cautious about the rules... I am simply amazed that the others let's him get away with the misstriggers and sometimes cheats.

I see nothing wrong with being "overly cautious about the rules". If someone plays a Bruna deck and tells me that all of his Bestow creatures will get attached to Bruna out of his graveyard, the battlefield and his hand, I WILL point out that those are not auras unless they are CURRENTLY bestowed upon a creature - they are merely creatures/creature cards. And no, I don't care if Commander/EDH is a casual format at this moment, because I will not let someone get away with a gamebreaking loop that's against the rules, not even in a casual, fun Commander game.

I'm a little confused as to how that Diluvian Primordial survived Damnation. The trigger for casting your opponents' spells happens when it enters the battlefield, not on cast, so it should have been killed with everything else. There's no reason he should have been able to copy it with Dack's Duplicate and cast more spells, as it should have been dead.

After McDarby played the Diluvian primordial 58:28 and played damnation shouldn't the primordial die? so he couldn't target a dead primordial for his dack's duplicate

People need to stop being rules nazis. Commander is a fun format, and they obviously aren't playing competitively. If you want rules and competition, they have tournament videos and things like that on their channel. They all had fun, so this was a successful commander game.

That's exactly how it works. Everyone pays whatever they want and they all fetch for the total amount paid. So, even if you don't pay any mana, you would fetch 5 lands if someone paid 4 and someone else 1. It's all fun and games for everyone at the table.

+Jason Hunt copies of steel hellkite will have copied their cmc. but a card that says "summon 2 3/3 beast creature tokens" will summon tokens with a cmc of 0.

Adam Prueher The new rules are basically, Legendary affects each players' side individually and when an additional of that creature shows up on your side of the field, you decide which to keep.

Because it was a land and Steel Hellkite can't destroy all of your opponent's lands for 0, that would be "slightly" overpowered.

Steel Hellkite says "Destroy each nonland permanent" and Stephen's green artifact land is both an artifact and a land so nope.

Everyone points out David's cheats but not Justin's? When he sepulchral primordialed and reanimated flayer he triggered it, however it says when a creature returns from "your graveyard" so unless I am very much misunderstanding that card, he should have not activated it at all.

can marchesa bring herself back? it sounds like she could, and mcdarby does it so. however once marchesa leaves the field that ability is no longer there. Also what if marchesa with a +1/+1 counter dies, then later in the same turn another creature with a +1/+1 counter dies? and I don't think double dethrone is a thing| we need some gatherer rulings for marchesa, the black rose

Straight from Wizards: The second thing to remember is that dethrone stacks. If Marchesa, the Black Rose is also on your side of the battlefield, her Smuggler has dethrone, dethrone. Getting two +1/+1 counters for attacking the person with the highest life total can be a pretty alluring incentive. Thing is, if Marchesa is not in play to see this creature die. with a +1+1 counter on it, since she's not on the battlefield, that is not brought back with marchesas ability. It will be brought back if Marchesa is on the field at the same time, dies to the same damnation etc. Yes, marchsa can comeback with her own ability.

I think mcdarby accidently cheated.. After he resolves his diluvian primordial, damnation resolves, and he puts all of his creatures in his graveyard, but he does not put his primordial in the yard, and it does not have a +1+1 counter on it, so it can't be brought back with marchesa. It should've been in the yard, so he wouldn't get to make his Dack's Duplicate into a Diluvian Primordial.

The ability of Marchesa is a delayed triggered ability triggering upon the death of a creature (dying being the act of moving a creature from the battlefield to the graveyard). If the creature is moved from the graveyard by any way (exiled, shuffled, bounced, etc.), it isn't considered as being the same object that died previously, thus causing the ability to fail upon resolve.

Grenzo sends the bottom card to your grave and if it's a creature with power = or less then Grenzo it goes on the battlefield.
