@@Swipey_BB . 29 Commando falls under the Royal Marines, also know as Army Commandos. They complete basic training and complete a short Commando Course. Are you from the UK?
This is hands down, THE best advert for ANY of our armed forces I've ever seen, I'm mega proud that my old Regiment has stepped up to social media and blown the bloody doors off, really selling ourselves and putting 29 on the map ... awesome. 👌🏻
@Documentary Detective III you probably enlist into a normal artillery regt first then after a spell ask your boss if you can teanfer n do the all arms commando bit
@Documentary Detective III Easiest route is to join the Royal Artillery first, British Army. Then ask for a posting to 29, this is based on you volunteering to undertake the Commando Course, once this is passed, you'll return to one of the Battery's within the Regt. Normally do a couple of years min then apply to go to 148 bty if you so wish. You'll also see the Regt has Royal Marines, Navy and RAF personel, these all have quals that integrate within the strike element, like boat coxswains or TACP
Didn’t search for this, but glad the algorithm brought us together. This is the sort of video that should be shown on TV for recruitment. I’d join up now if I wasn’t too old and unfit 😆
@Michael Tite yea I get that, but they still do the cdo training through the rm whether that be in lympstone or what not- as apposed to any army training area
@GeordieGuitarist what does the fact that they're Army have to do with anything? They're 3 Commando Brigade and arguably one of their biggest assets, providing information covertly behind enemy lines to the rest of the brigade. AACC still qualifies them just as much as any RM mate
@GeordieGuitarist You do know they're are RMs in 29 cdo right? Like quite literally one of the sergeants from 29 cdo who was speaking in the video is a RM
Wow, the ‘drop shorts’ have gone and got posh! Impressive video. I served for 5 years in 59 Ind Cdo Sun RE, and remember well running around the Citadel on Plymouth Hoe on the commando course, and then serving alongside the RA on exercise. Good times, when I had hair and a waistline!
You'd need to join the badass Army, if you want to be RM Commando Royal Artillery (or Royal Engineers) Support Squadrons. You can be a badderass Diver if you join the Royal Engineers. Choose carefully.
@@cycleSCUBA Interesting... Unfortunately for me i tore my ACL/MCL 9 years ago (unrepaired), which from what i've read is an immediate fail on the medical exam.
Glad to see more info on the Battery. It's extremely competitive to get into. Your fitness levels need to be through the roof. And there's only a limited number of spaces available.
@@oscara1471 because of the selection process - it's tough. These are the elite soldier, next to the Special Boat Service. They're a scouting/mayhem force.
Well done to LPHOT James Clarke, I sent this on to a group chat where they just posted the Russian/US recruitment videos. Th e US one was quite sad, this is epic, teach the other branches how to make great films like this.
Our armed forces branches in here in the U.S. could really learn a lot from you guys in terms of both combat expertise and recruitment, especially recruitment (I'm looking at you, Army "recruitment" video)
@@Thiago-im4ly dont do that you are smart enough to be an officer in another trade and get a job while in the military and then you can always get the course done. this will give you the commando patch and the green beret!! im not saying its wrong to join as a regular but there are way more options that will be open to you whilst at the same time allowing you to gain a trade that can be used in the wider world once you finish in the forces
@Michael Tite Yes, I would. Nobody had snappy recruiting like this. And while in the US Army during Vietnam, I was sent to Germany, which was a different kind of adventure. So, you obviously wouldn’t, but heh, it’s your projection, right?
@Michael Tite My complements to you, you are hard boiled. And how many go into the military for the “right” reasons? Pretty sure nothing has changed when it comes to avoiding a draft by instead selecting a service. Mine could’ve been the USMC- you’d find out after being drafted. Lousy job prospects and not an encouraging background? There’s another one. Bit of trouble on the outside? There’s another. No family? There’s another one. Great looking uniform (USMC dress blues), check! Our Special Forces recruit from within, same with Marine Recon, etc. While I was in, the largest drawdown in modern history occurred-so huge cuts were made. Our only son spent 7 combat tours as a Marine between Iraq and Afghanistan-going directly from one to the next without a break. So, there’s more to the selection process than they will challenge everything you take for granted. Congratulations Michael for being one of those special people. But I have friends who went into those for SF groups for the “wrong” reasons-and excelled. The ad is great recruiting material. How many will succeed? Not as many as would like to. Good on ya’.
Video illustrates this saying well: “We sleep safely in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.”
not my style but I thought yoiu mnight lkike this: It is the Soldier, not the minister Who has given us freedom of religion. It is the Soldier, not the reporter Who has given us freedom of press. It is the Soldier, not the poet Who has given us freedom of speech. It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer Who has given us freedom to protest. It is the Soldier, not the lawyer Who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the Soldier, not the politician Who has given us the right to vote. It is the Soldier who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag, And whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows the protester to burn the flag. Charles M. Province american obviously
You still have to deal with capita during the application, but only for the medical part, which isn't great but could be worse. Am at Lympstone now (but TMU'd :( )
One of my biggest regrets in life is I never joined the Royal Marines (or at least gave it a go)- if I'd seen this as a 19 year old (f*ckwit) it would have been the nudge that I needed - absolutely top marks on a great production.
FFS.......all this gucci kit that's come in! Bit threaders I left now. On the plus side, the transferable skills you can't get on civvie street have got me in a role which I can't complain about. Cheers pusser.
@@oscara1471 because they've done the rest of the elements that are either part of or attached to 30 commando, so it's good to get the whole picture of the capabilities of the Brigade Reconnaissance Force. Also, engineering recce at the regimental level is fairly straightforward to understand, but when they're supporting the BRF of 3 Cdo Bgd, it gets a lot more interesting. Are they trained in all of the same insertion techniques that the BPT and these guys from 29 are? Do they do ML3 and or ML2? Will the rest of BRF take individual sappers on raids and/or can the whole troop conduct similar raids itself? What's the selection process for getting into the recce troop. It's a good explanation for anyone wanting to join the RE and 24.
Can you PLEASE make a video explaining the difference between all the different regiments in detail? Im highly interested in 45 commando but theres barely any info on how theyre different expect for extra mountain training
@@oscara1471 148 Meiktila Battery is a small, elite and highly specialised forward observer unit that locates, studies and ultimately targets enemy assets. They are a small but highly professional unit that you would never know about really, unless you did a bit of digging. I think they are part of 3 Commando Brigade. Google is your friend for more info.
@@garthwick19 I see, it’s all so confusing. Does every royal marine platoon get assigned a random role? Like the first guys are dragoon’s and the second are welsh artillery😂😂it’s all so confusing to me.
Your men's job is even more dangerous Artillery Specialists, Heavy Weapons and Munitions. But, you can do more damage with a light strike team of 3 to 5 men. Great video on joints mission's 🇬🇧🇺🇸🏅👍
I hate to say it but 148 Bty is the Creme de la Creme of the Royal Artillery Regiment. Top notch and far less pretentious than other publicity seeking "Elite" Regiments.
Meiktila is as close to being ‘them’ as makes no difference. Between 148 and 4/73 there are some phenomenal soldiers. The ability to confidently and capably call in air, naval and artillery whilst under extreme stress is the difference between triumph and tragedy. Arma pacis fulcra.
@@Steve-cc6xc 300 mile ski? Stretching it a bit there mate, it’s 200km. 4/73 is a Divisional asset not a Brigade asset. 148 is a Brigade asset that works with the Surveillance Reconnaissance Squadron. HALO/HAHO are insertion methods not roles (148 also uses the same chutes) and has also been used many times throughout its history as a strategic asset (scud hunting in Iraq) due to the UK’s jack of all trades master of none, to label units along the lines of US Tier systems doesn’t happen
@@Steve-cc6xc no unit is “close” to SF. You either are or you aren’t. The notion is laughable. What makes SF who they are is their position within the battle space and the the targets they’re given, that’s it. PF and 30 commando have the same role but attack from different angles, methods of insertion, once they’re in the ground the role is the same. 148 is an element of the surveillance and reconnaissance squadron of 30 commando, there are ML’s at 148
@@iceandale7621I thought 148, SRS etc. use static line rather than free fall. I could be wrong but the only ones who are actually trained in HALO/HAHO are SF, SFSG and pathfinders.
The royal marines no longer field their own artillery. We rely on the army with soldiers going through a commando course to join '29 commando royal artillery'. That unit falls under the bigger 3 commando brigade. Which is predominantly royal marines.
Combined Operations patch. 148 is the only unit to continue wearing it from that period to the present day, because it’s alway been a Combined Operations (arms) unit
Turkey is the most ready country in the world for one-on-one war experience. At least 8 million people have clashed with terrorism in the country since 1984. Real conflict in the mountains is not like in the movies. No training protects you in real conflict. You can't win if you don't know how to embrace death. As someone who spent a year in the mountains after studying at one of the world's leading commando schools. The first rule of success in conflict is to forget this world and do what you need to do calmly by embracing dying. War is not a PC game.
