I'm glad they dropped another project but the direction of the project was watered down, from subject matter to the production,i think if phife and dilla was still alive they would had put things into proper perspective
Matthew Duncan That's interesting. I think the album is exceptional given the void of time between The Love Movement. I couldn't ask for a better contemporary Tribe album. The features work a lot more seamless than that of The Love Movement. Quite honestly I would put Thank You for Your Setfice right right under Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders as my favorite Tribe albums. Just my opinion.
Jeremy Vassallo Well since they always take more than 2 days I'm not sure why you're surprised. Its a deep project it takes time to digest something like that. I like DEHH because they take their time and we actually get meaningful reviews as a result
Meh... that new tribe album is just ok or below their standard... i went through it like 4 to 5 times, and maybe like 3 or 4 songs on it are good, the rest are just fillers... some of the songs don't sound complete with how its mixed and some just cut off lol oh well I guess I will just continue to bump their first 5 albums and be content with those... cause those are dope as fuk!
Absolutely incredible album. Subject matter, classic Common sound, with impeccable production. I had this album blasting, while driving by the White folk, proud of being Black. Really couldn't come at a better time. Very well done. 10/10.
Very happy to see y'all reviewed this album. I was very surprised while listening to this. I really thought this was gonna be another subpar Common album. Because of the title, I felt like maybe he rushed to get the message out with everything that's going on in America. But naw.. Common was going off, MC wise. And this sound fits him so perfectly. - Tone
Why nobody bring up Common's resurrection album? Black America once again was amazing and Common just proving that he's easily top 5 of all time I mean just look at that consistency. I loved the tribe album, however this is my album of the year man, on the first listen I was blown away and I can see myself coming back to it.
Glad you guys reviewed this. Great album to me and might wind up being one of my favorite Common albums next to Resurrection, Like Water and Be. Pyramids, man, one of the best two verses of the year.
Salute Ctown for speaking to my perspective. I kept this album on my TIDAL, but I'm more in the mood for the Us Or Else's. Anxious to hear what you guys think of the new Tribe album as well.
Common, A Tribe Called Quest, YG, Denzel Curry, & Kanye West have my Top 5 albums of 2016 right now. I am so proud of Common on Black America Again. He brought such energetic and thoughtful ideas delivered with intricate bars and nice flows. Karriem Riggins killed the production with beautiful passages and hard hitting jazz beats.
I was kind of hoping for a kind of Jazzmatazz album when I heard Robert Glasper, Karriem Riggins, Roy Hargrove (trumpet jazz legend) and Elena Pinderhughes (who also plays the flute parts) would be on the album. Loved this album though.
Common's New Album is one the most Beautiful Conscience Projects I ever heard. It was uplifting and reflective. It has that John Coltrane sound to it. Like the gentleman said, it has that Jazzy, Neo Soul, R & B Classic Sound. Love It!!!
It about time I start supporting these guys on patreon, and I really think everybody else here should too. Could you guys imagine how much they would appreciate if even half of us would donate just a dollar? I know you guys won't starve with one less dollar in your regular spending, support these dudes!
Kenneth Baker yes ok good for you. And do the vast majority of people your age listen to common or the young thugs, uzi verts etc. it's the same for people my age. Go look at the views for their common, Royce, de la soul vids vs their drake, Rick Ross and other mainstream artists. Think before you speak your reading comprehension and age is showing. If what I'm saying didn't apply to you why are you offended?
Jujux15 i listen to young thug too. You cant just make generalizations like that dude. People have different tastes, and yours is no more valid than somebody that listens to soulja boy.
Resurrection is Common's best album. Love Can I Borrow a Dollar?, One Day It'll All Make Sense, Be, Finding Forever, The Dreamer / The Believer, & Like Water for Chocolate.
Ocean Sage 1. One Day It'll All makes sense (boring) 2. Can I borrow a dollar (he dissed Ice Cube, didn't care for this album) 3. Universal Mind Control (generic, too commercial) Other albums are super dope classics.
i feel what myke us saying about his mindset. ive been really loving the line from "yomilo" "in my own blood i wrote it on pig skin we need poems that kill i refuse to be yesterdays victim"
Modest, just a suggestion. The music on the 'if your watching' section seems too rambunctious for that part. The music you had before fit better because it was calm, chill out, listen to the feed back type of music - this just sounds too aggressive and takes attention away from the advice / feedback given by the guys. Anywhere else in the reviews would be perfect just not at the end - in my humble opinion of course. Love y'all ✌🏾️
Black America, Pyramids, red wine, the day women took over, and little Chicago boy are my favorite tracks on the album. I like the album solid project imo.
StupidIsAsStupidDoe2 If it's an album that I've been anticipated, I'm definitely going to listen to it first. That way I can relate to what they're saying and compare views.
I've always thought Common was one of the best, but it disappoints me to see his transition to rubbing elbows with political and Hollywood elites. That represents a conflict of interest for any artist purporting to put out messages of social empowerment.
scovell7 Hollywood people are all weirdo lefty people as it is and so is most politicians Common interact with. Like seriously, only way you can suggest Hollywood celebrities wouldn't kneejerk agree with Common on everything he says to be polite is if you've never, ever interacted with one.
