Great insight! I come because my wife's friend (single, older, broke) has an 05 Sedona. She had the power steering pump changed. The mechanic noticed a mouse ate through the insulation of "some wires" and replaced the section of bad wire. Now, you guessed it, the transmission slams into 2nd then enters 1 gear only limp mode. She described her issues but didn't mention that it was just worked on. She mentioned that her tach stopped working so (before I knew the back story) I went to change the ignition failure sensor hoping for a long shot fix thinking that might be causing the transmission issues. That's when i noticed all the wiring to the transmission was "new". So my question is: How the world can I diagnose the wiring without a wiring diagram? The mechanic is playing dumb to the repair now claiming her transmission went bad right after the repair. (Well... Not playing) He actually spliced wires and ran new ones so the plug has 1 new connectors inside the housing ran with 6 inches of new wire connected to a blob of the original wiring harness. So it's all plugged in the correct ports but I don't know if he mixed up the pins.

Very good pointing information that's overlooked a lot I noticed that a lot when I started working on my truck. I thought the same thing when taking these connectors apart they can easily just go into some Grease because everything is dirty and greasy from being so old so it's pretty much if it's not sitting and going to move and hit something it's going to get into grease and be dirty. My transmission was running pretty good until I had somebody do my oil pan and they put the transmission connectors back and I pulled them back apart after doing a fluid change and they were all dirty with grease same kind of thing that I would have never let happen now I'm looking at more transmission problems electrical on a 4L60E 2003 Chevy S10 2.2. So now what I'm doing is I'm replacing that internal wiring harness because it had a PO 798 or 748 code I don't know it's a 2-3 downshift solenoids are replace that so annoyed with the factory AC Delco part seem to fix the problem kind of temporarily but that just keeps coming back it's like pretty much every morning or whatever I get back and I got the check engine backlight on warm it up turn it off warm it up turn it off warm it up turn it off and clear the code and clear the code and clear the code once the codes cleared the transmission runs great but once that fires up and it throws that coat it starts pumping like really low has no power etc. so now in the process of doing this I actually got a new harness but it has a slightly different plug on it on the 4L60E so I'm wondering if I can just take that old plug off the old harness or better yet even find a new plug and just splice in with heat shrink and butt connectors I know it's probably not recommended but I don't want to have to buy this whole new harness part just for this one plug that's on it that's different.

What do you think of putting a new transmission wiring harness on a 14 year old vehicle just cause? Can this hurt it or be beneficial?

After the cleaning, can I use WD-40 on it? I have a Corolla has CEL's P0741 which I think it is wire related and not the actual TCCs. Thanks in advance.

I have a G35X AWD, I think my rack and pinion is leaking. It's not a major leak, but enough to start causing a mess underneath the engine and atf. I can noticably see what looks like atf collecting on everything. I've narrowed it down to the power steering. The reservoir doesn't look empty or low. The atf gasket doesn't appear to be leaking, it's hard to tell. I think I may go ahead and replace it anyways. Only other culprit is the transfer case. Not sure if this has a gasket? Either way something is leaking atf or powersteering. I've cleaned it as best as I could in an attempt to pinpoint the leak. But to no avail, I'm only thinking it has to be the rack and pinion because this is wear I see most of the fluid. I just purchased this car 6 months ago. I've already changed the atf fluid twice. I'll drain it while I do a regular oil change. It has 209k, so I'm hesitant in doing an actual atf flush. Rather slowly induce new atf over time. I did change out all the transfer case which takes type D fluid. The atf takes type S, but I use Valvoline High Mileage atf that meets requirements for both types. I thing drained and filled the front and rear diffs. Which hasn't been done in who knows how long, if ever. I noticed quite a lot of metal shavings on both magnetic drain plugs. The gear oil was also really black with a slight burning smell. The atf to my surprise wasn't too bad, it was just a really dark red, samething for the transfer case. Although I found some traces of metal shavings in the fluid that came out. After I did this, I noticed the car driving so much smoother, not only did I have better and quicker shifts. But now I can hardly feel it shifting, unless I'm using the manual mode. Then I can feel it shift hard, sometimes clunk into gear. This is only if I'm going wot into the first 3 gears. Anyways I need to fix this leak, because it has been going on for who knows how long. Everything is coated in this fluid which worries me. I can't really get underneath it and power wash it. Im worried it's either going to eat up the plastic on these connection's or cause a poor connection itself. Maybe I could just get underneath it and spray the hell out of everything with break cleaner or an engine degreaser? Which one would be best? Clean everything as good as I can, let it dry. Cost some dielectric grease and hope for the best. I also noticed the out boot of the driver side CV axel split. Which caused grease to fling around everywhere. Who knows how long ago that happened? But my starter went out a month ago. When I went to change it, this is when I noticed it. The starter was completely covered in grease, fluids and grime. The connectors were completely saturated. Im amazed it even managed to work for so long like this. The rack and pinion is also almost directly above the starter. I need to replace this boot and repack it with grease asap. The cv axle works fine, no popping nor any excessive noises are coming from it. I read the rack and pinion is a bitch to replace with this car, especially since it's awd. It has to have bad seals, the leak isn't bad. It never goes below the low mark on the reservoir. I guess since it's been happening for yrs it looks like. This is why it looks so bad. Im talking about everything is covered in it.

my car stopped a year after changing the transmission. it couldn't move at all before it stop cranking like the gears went out. After checking some stuff I noticed my transmission connection wire was sitting soaked in atf. Can this be the reason the transmission went out and car won't crank now?
