We want our competition engine as big as possible. This allows turbos to spool faster, more power, and is just easier to work on. The problem is, the big block Cummins, the 6.7 liter, didn't come with p-pumps. To add one, you need to have a gear case that allows you to bolt your p-pump to your truck. We have used other manufacturers cases, but we found some things we wanted to change and upgrade. This video goes over our Power Driven Diesel p-pump gear case.

You guys did a very nice job of solving that problem. I don’t own a diesel, but was a class 8 diesel tech for 15 years and love watching y’all innovate and create new solutions.

That gear seems like a curious piece of history. Was that pump gear really made before the fall of the Berlin Wall (pre-1990)? Or did Cummins keep ‘Made in W. Germany’ in the mold well after reunification?

Sweet engineering job to the front case.! What I would like to see is some front suspension mods required to run that kind of torque Maybe a little info on how to keep from bouncing at launch( air pressure, shock compression rebound, spring rate etc) Thanks a million for the info, have fun and be safe

Man this are absolutely nice parts. 6.7 P Pump 😬👍 What head and injectors do I need to use on the 6.7 block ? From a 24v 2nd gen ?
@ppump24valve53
@ppump24valve53 5 лет назад
the 24 valve head is the same from 03 common rail to current, as far as injectors you want the 2 nd gen head 98.5-02 to be able to use 2 nd gen injectors with p pump and also you need to match piston bowls to the right 24 valve tips to have the right spray pattern.

Also need to change out the crank shaft gear to the older helical style from old 5.9 as common tails use straight cut. The oil pan might need to be adapted as well...extended on the front... or at least it did when people started adapting ome cases for p-pumps years ago, I’m not 100% sure about this case fitment.

Are there any modifications that have to made to the intake plenum on the CR head? I know on some other conversion cases that you have to machine and re-fabricate the plenum to clear the AFC housing

@@pddofficial I figured that may have got a rise out of you! I know you are passionate about what you do with the Cummins, and that is nothing but a wonderful thing. The things being done with these engines nowadays is simply amazing. That said, I am passionate about the big Chevy and was merely stating my opinion (ok, and maybe stirring the pot LOL)

speaking from a towing aspect, not racing or sled pulling. prolonged uphill towing. lots of loaded millage... if i swap out my trusty old 12v with a 6.7 Ppump. leaving it close to stock numbers for the 6.7 nothing wild. would i see better egt's turbo spool, and over all towing improvements by swapping. one of my trucks is just under 800k and its getting time to retire that old 12v. the 6.7 are far more common and oddly cheaper than a good 12v in my area. it would still cost more in the long run to do the 6.7 but im an odd duck who like real reliability over electronics. as for transmission i just completed a spicer 3053a swap and would plan on running one behind the 6.7 if i did so... really dont care about being faster. just hate how i have to watch my egt's more than my speed in the mountains.. its a tricky trade off with a 12v.. power and high egts, lower power low egts.

What is the benefit of having a p pump on a common rail?
@keith2860
@keith2860 3 года назад
It’s just a conversion to get rid of the electronic common rail injection system in favor of the mechanical P pump. As far as benefits it just allows you to use a bigger 6.7 bottom end with a mechanical injection pump which is favored in some applications for its ability to reliably supply a lot of fuel, like sled pulls.
@awashbowler
@awashbowler 5 лет назад
Would a standard 2nd gen p pump gear case not bolt onto a common rail block??? Whats different?? I was always under the impression that gear cases are interchangeable between the common rail and older blocks..
@keiferjanz3197
@keiferjanz3197 5 лет назад
Austin Washburn nope bolt holes are in different places. Also there is a lot of other supporting changes you need to do like for instance changing the crank gear to a helical gear.
@andrewterry3176
@andrewterry3176 5 лет назад
Or just run a 12v crank. You can drill and tap the holes and make it work with a factory gear case and oil pan its just a pain
@keiferjanz3197
@keiferjanz3197 5 лет назад
Andrew Terry yeah but then that turns you into a 6.4 and you have to ether get longer rods or have the block decked... a gear change would be much cheaper
@andrewterry3176
@andrewterry3176 5 лет назад
@@keiferjanz3197 they also make a piston with a different pin height to make up the difference, but yes you're right
@awashbowler
@awashbowler 5 лет назад
@@keiferjanz3197 Yeah I already have that planned out, 6.4 is the route I'm going so I am using a 5.9 crankshaft. But it sounds like I will have to rethink the front gear case some more. I dont have a 6.7 block yet so I couldn't confirm the differences/similarities between the gear cases.
