If you watch the other segments you clearly see them all putting him down, gleefully. Sanjay also wants to change his tone in a way he’d never talk to Joe. Then they try to paint Joe as a bully. They’re cowards. They started the fight, but want to press charges when Joe fights back and they get hurt. They deserve a lot worse. They lie to us about everything.

I guess Gupta knows CNN used the term horse de-wormer in a derogatory way. I'm surprised he played it so coy - he could point out it's simply not a lie (it IS a horse de-wormer, AND a medicine used by humans, so either of those would be a correct statement) or how Rogan skips over the bigger point they make which is that it is recommended against by the FDA and CDC and it had been better had Rogan simply gotten his well-tested vaccine instead of using an untested and warned-against treatment against a disease about which we still don't know that much. But then - Rogan is quite a strong debater, who can probably talk the earth flat, while Gupta is a doctor who isn't too good at the word games so he probably figured he'd lose.

But he is all around talented, interesting, highly intelligent (which he would probably argue that isnt true). In this case also, as always...it helps when facts are on your side. He is very accomplished and practiced at talking to people, and essentially does it for a living. Joe was playing 4D chess and Gupta was playing checkers. Gupta is nothing more than a highly paid partisan hack, and a shape shifting ideolog. I am sure he is a nice enough guy, but he seems to have sold his soul to CNN. Way back when British television was _really_ good, we had a number of 'talk shows', but old school, like Dick Cavette (Sp?). Ones such was Michael Parkinson, and David Frost. I can remember which - I'm guessing the former, as the latter was more political - but not long before Orson Welles past away, he was interviewed. Naturally, generally speaking most wanted to him to talk about 'Citizen Kane', and 'The Third Man', which, by the time he reached his more orotund point in his life was, to use a very old phrase 'Old Hat'; in otherwords, boring. So, the interviewer took a different tack: in the green room, prior to the interview was going to take place, the interviewer said, after Mr. Welles had died, he simply told him was: all I want to talk is about film, and film making, nothing more, nothing less. And so it was. Wells lit up a double-corona cigar (since people smoking on television was a given), and that's exactly what happened. A simple, yet broad, but also deep, conversation about films, without a deep dive into any of the one's he directed, or stared in. An apocryphal story goes the Welles was utterly impressed by the interview, because a) it was relaxed, and b) he was able to simply open up, because the guy interviewing spoke less, but listened more, so anything he (Welles) said, would segway into a thoughtful question, as the interviewer was actually paying attention ... I'm not saying Joe Rogan did the same here, but in all his prior podcasts, you can tell even though it's his show, he had no need to dominate the conversation, especially not by letting off a series of rapid fire questions, then only allowing the guest a moment to process, and begin to answer one of those, before firing off another set of questions. That's not an interview, that's a rant/vent at someone you dislike. If you are not going to act with civility, and a touch of humility, during an interview, as the interviewer, you may as well not conduct one, at all ... I hate to say this but Sean Hannity, and Tucker Carlson are pretty bad at doing that (on the other side, at CNN, MSNBC, and so forth, there's too many to mention). But, on the same network, you had Shepherd Smith, and, still, Chris Wallace, neither of whom did/does that, and actually have conversations. Perhaps the most unlikely is the numerous Jon Stewart/Bill O'Reilly interviews. The remarkable thing was although both clearly disagreed with each other, there was no real animus, nor rancour between them, especially when they invited each other on their own shows. Granted, I doubted they became drinking buddies, but you could tell there was respect for each other, which meant a decent flow of conversation ... That's perhaps the main critique of Rogan: he tends to be seen as too appeaseable, meaning he's pretty stupid. But that, I very much doubt. He doesn't punch when the other guy is falling; if anything, like was said, he would help them back up. And he most certainly doesn't have a room temperature IQ; I think he uses his EQ more, to tease out as much as he can, hence the runtimes, because he is smart enough to know how much he doesn't know, so is always looking for answers, whether it be out of intellectual curiosity, or, as here, pushing for intellectual honesty, integrity, and responsibility ... As interviewers go, because there need not be a set length, that gives him the freedom to keep on asking questions, when not affixed to a really tight schedule ... and thus enables him to be the 'active listener' ... Yes, he does have a habit of using MMA references, but that's because that's his wheelhouse, and comfort zone, especially for many of his listeners, and thus is able to use a know exemplar to simplify - but not make simplistic - a talking point ... which often takes rapid-fire thinking to do so ... Finally, if I may, he has laid clear that he feels politically homeless. He's pro-2nd Amendment, but has absolutely no issue with Universal Healthcare, and also giving people the means to lift themselves up, both of which, like here in the UK, doesn't align easily in a state of a political duopoly. I, honestly, feel the same way with our two main parties, as both have good ideas, but which are also attached to some pretty dumb ones ... whom, then, does one vote for ...? Trouble is that, whilst both the election systems here in the UK, and there in the US, are clearly broken, the alternatives I have studied, tend to, more ore less, be based entirely on coalition governments, often involving three, or more, parties, which, at any point in time, can be given over to internecine, then sectarian, 'warfare', within, thus causing the government to crumble. Italy is a classic example of that. However, with a duopoly, instead of going for the devil you know, as was, it's going to be whom is the least worst option: Trump may well win in 2024, but Biden then may well win in 2028 ... In fact, I think America needs to rethink the whole two, 4 year terms, because eight years is nowhere near enough for a President to enact change, especially in service delivery, as the first term almost constitutes hoping to do just enough to win a second term ... and what can any President do in four years, in a country that is, more or less, almost is own continent, even without Canada ... And especially right now, at this point in time, where things are positively seething ...

I kind of agree that it was a knockdown - however, when you consider how a conversation like this should play out “Gupta’s turf, Gupta’s bread and butter topic”, it could easily be a knockout. Joe is a comedian. Gupta is what, a surgeon or something? Some kind of big doctor, and chief medical correspondent - and he got schooled on the topic of medicine.
@sharpfang
@sharpfang 2 года назад
And now, that he's been schooled and can't claim ignorance - and doubled down on the "dewormer" on air, on CNN - he's lost face completely. Rogan released him on parole, and he went right back to doing the same crime he's been caught on. He's no longer an authority.

The "It should bother you too" was the counter right hook that knocked him on his ass. That stunned him and left him walking stiff legged throughout the rest of the round until he hit him with the "does it bother you that they outright lied?" The rest of the conversation was like a fight where the ref let the fighter keep fighting even though he shouldn't. It's just sad to watch. Good on Joe for showing him mercy.

After spending 3 hours with Rogan, which he says is the first time he's had a conversation that long ?! to his credit Gupta actually tried to put Rogans actual views across to Lemon, who reacted in a way that says everything you need to know about him and CNN.

I did not actually feel like Joe was aggressive at all. He just called out the evasive and untruthful nature of guptas responses. It is the method of journalism. The method of the courts or any time you actually are seeking open honest discourse. Gupta was there to sweep dirt under the rug and Joe said nope, not on my show.
