Communism vs. Anarchy: What Does the Bible Say?

Jordan and the roundtable discuss chapters eighteen through twenty: Moses acts as a judge for his people, he reconciles with his family (especially his father-in-law Jethro), Jethro instructs Moses to see God as the true judge, and Moses teaches a select few the laws to allow them to rule over the people. Additionally, they review the initial events of Mount Sinai when God revealed himself to Moses, Israel as the sacrificial firstborn nation, and God’s presentation of the Ten Commandments. The scholars address the importance of sacrifice, compassion, and the relationship between justice and mercy; problems with unconditional love; and the fundamental structures of reality as the first half of the Exodus seminar comes to a close.

I wish all this was explained to me like this 40 years ago. I spent my life being skeptical of religion and it was because no one could explain it to me. Jordan's viewpoint and interpretation resonates with me in a profound way. He may not be a theologian but that is what makes his message so accessible. He get it, and he then shares it.

Seems JP is condemning the free for all that is social media now, using strong language like "the sociopaths, narcissists, and Machiavellians all have a voice." Agreed, so is he now advocating censoring on social media as long as he or his friends are the censors? Interesting times.

That's the thing. It was only through him that I started considering religion as a possibility for me. The topic of the video that made me really consider was about judgement and how we all orient towards something. I couldn't disprove it. I tried. Recently, I realized that maybe part of the reason why religion fell out of favor for many is because not many were understanding the messages in it. It's like - "This is a good practice!" Well why? "Because it's been around forever." That's just an example. Basically, can these practices that have been around forever be defended in a way that's satisfactory?

the thing about the bible and God is that, you can approach it and discover revelations from a myriad of different angles. as a scholar of ancient greek and latin, as well as having co-majored in the social sciences (anthropology/archaeology), it is extremely interesting to me from that perspective. Currently reading Exodus to go along with Petersons round table. It is fascinating to me how God chooses not only to deal with Pharaoh but to deal with the aftermath of 430 years of judean slavery both physically and mentally. he uses passover, and all types of other physical commandments to represent something symbolic and thus create a reinforcing psyche, setting it up to resonate over the future generations of the jewish people. If we know one thing about God, its that he plays the long game.

Nicely put. From that, it becomes clear that one cannot logically argue for why they deserve mercy. It’s a privilege begotten out of, and freely given by Grace to those who have have gone contrary to the Will of One who judges.

Oh man... Discussion like this is such a wonderful thing. It reminds me of campfire talks with my dad and my grandpa. I was the youngest so I'd usually just sit and listen. They didn't speak quite as eloquently, and much of the conversations were swapping stories about life experiences, but there were times that deep discussions would take place and I was gifted such wisdom from the things I heard, what they shared. I'm thankful for that time I had with them and realize what a blessing those seemingly simple moments were now that I'm a bit older. I appreciate being able to sit in on discussions like this one as well. I truly wish there were more of this in the world today. I wish more people realized what a blessing a simple discussion is and what wisdom can be gained from sitting quietly, listening to others. Thank you for sharing this.

3 aggregated rules of a household or classroom: 1. We take care of ourselves 2. We take care of our things 3. We take care of each other. (This was not my idea, I learned it from a coworker and I love it because everything you do can fall into one of these three categories).

In the UK form of governance it is my understanding that there is the monarch, the House of Lords, the House of Commons/MP's. The MP's are elected by the people/commoners. Therefore the MP's are the 'trusted servant's' of the people to represent their views. (I sometimes seriously question if MP's see themselves as such). They are entrusted by their electorate to look after the electorate's best interests.

Certainly rules are needed, the issue comes when the conscientiousness is misguided conscientiousness. If the rules are the wrong rules, or even a mix of right rules with wrong rules, then history proves eventually they will be dismantled with the replacement of the rules-based macro system with a more "lawless" macro system. Eventually this creates chaos, and so a rules-based system again prevails - yet imperfect, and so the pendulum continues to swing.

Thanks for saying this, because these idiots are trying to skip the exciting bit of the process. But in all seriousness, you *cannot* just skip the anarchy stage. And if this round table of clowns thinks they’re guaranteeing thrones in the coming dystopian landscape because they’ve spat out a couple of 5th grade truths- thennnnn they’re _sorely_ mistaken. Two problems with their delusions of grandeur. 1) None of these fellas are visionary. In the least. Hell, Jordan’s middle name is Shillerton, no? Sometimes I have to echo check the room when I watch his videos because I can’t count the times I sit there retorting ‘I’ve said that myself 🤔’… 2) These processes aren’t driven by vision alone, but the Promethean Will required to *enact* that vision. And I don’t see a second Prometheus among this gaggle of yester-conservative Priests- do you? 😅

“Mercy in the micro and justice in macro”. What a mundane thing to come up with. That’s not what spiritualism or wisdom are about: in observing one self honestly one comes to see sins then understand the right path ardently. Bringing people to this understanding is the only way and justice (in the sense used here) is just failure to do so. Justice then is practical: lock up someone so they can’t do harm, for example.
@MrDarryl1958

In Biblical Hebrew, the name for womb is 'compassion', (if I am understanding a Rabbi David Fohman correctly). But "wombness" has a ruthlessness to it, as most embryos do not make it past the first stages. Even if mercy of the womb is unconditionally and infinitely giving, it is not really just sugar and spice and everything nice. Viability itself is being first judged at the level of the womb. Death is the greater compassion for those deemed non-viable by the womb itself, by the woman at the level of bodily, mostly non-conscious decision. The judgment of the womb precedes the judgment of justice like Rosh Hashana precedes Yom Kippur day of judgment by 10 days. The joy is of a womb that deems the person within fit for life at the beginning of a life; the day of atonement and repentance is for how we fall short of the promise of the womb. Likewise, justice has the element of compassion within it. The arbitrary severity of the rule giver's authoritarianism is a merciful reprieve from the cruelty of living in a state of chaos and in a nature red in tooth and claw, a world of all against all.

It's such a backwards direction of interpretation. Nowadays we have so much more texts with much better and simpler abstracts to explain these things - psychology, values, virtues - and yet some people, more conservative ones I'm guessing, still insist on the reinterpretation of bible, like it's still the only one book that's available. And I get the value of that, because it's history, tradition and rituals and people are much more willing to fight and die for that, and there is still a majority of world population willing to die for a different ancient book that has served their ancestors, so that's useful in this context. But it's mostly just sad and scary.

The word communism stemmed from the word commune, which means to share the wealth equally among each other. There has never been a government that shares the same amount of wealth with the people, as occurs with the rulers of governments. That is hyperbole. The best we can hope for is to avoid dictatorship, which is where one person, such as Vladimir Putin, or Adolf Hitler, rules over their whole country, and would like to rule over the whole world.

@@walk2here37 I would rather have leaders of many countries such as the WEF run an organization ... than to have a man such as Putin run his own personal dictatorship. What do you think about the following want-to-be dictatorship? From the book ... Guide for Living … Pope Pius XII … Selected Addresses and Letters of His Holiness World Government Address to members of the Universal Movement for World Federation, April 6, 1951: Your movement gentlemen, aims at bringing into being an effective political world organization. Nothing is more in line with the traditional doctrine of the Church nor more adapted to her teaching regarding just and unjust war, particularly at the present juncture.

Anarchy over communism, Freedom sounds always a bit like Anarchy

Absolutely true. You have succinctly stated a deep and obvious truth that most people will not see. Communism, Fascism and liberalism and dictatorship of all types is about government control. Freedom, conservatism is about individual rights taking priority over government control. The further right you go the smaller government gets, the greater individualism becomes. The Apex would be self governance and dealing your own justice and law. Anarchy is the furthest right.

@@alvareo92 Yes. It's Sorel's Syndicalism rebranded (Sorel was a French Marxist incase you didn't know) by Mussolini and Gentile. My WW2 vet Grandfather told me this years ago. That's where I first remember being told about Orwell, because Combat 18 (a UK Neo-Nazi group) was on the news in the mid 90s and got referred to as far right. My Grandfather said, "That's not correct. Nazis were left wing. Orwell was right about history getting changed." We've been bullshitted to for years.

@@alvareo92 No It's far right. it shoud be noted that all nazis are fascist, but not all fascists are nazis, there are non nazi fascists and anti nazi fascists as well. Anarchy is as left as one can go, which is one step left of communism.

Yeah KJV is hard to listen too. No one talks like this anymore. The whole point of the KJV was to give people a Bible that they could understand clearly. Ironic that we now revert back to it simply for tradition or to sound intelligent. There are more readable versions that still maintain the meaning of the Bible.

No, the KJV is the preserved word of God in the English language. Translated from the correct Greek and Hebrew manuscripts, unlike modern versions. Check out 'New world order Bible versions' to see what I'm talking about.

@@dantheman909 the KJV was not written in the language of its time, it was written to be the most accurate (perfect) translation of God's word in English
