My favorites right away were the Super Twin Reverb and the 71 Twin Reverb with JBL's. I think I like the 71 a lil better. The 69 Twin Reverb sounded great too but maybe better with the JBL speakers. What speakers did the Super Twin Reverb have in it? THat amp really surprised me. Wondering what volume you had the twins at?

Great tunes! Honestly, they were all great at something. Its really true what they say about how many Fender amps sound mediocre on their own but in a mix they're magic. I also thought it was kind of interesting how the older speakers really don't like distortion, which makes sense as they were presumably selected for their fidelity to begin with, as back "then" distortion was precisely what you didn't want etc.

@seanwoodburn2616
@seanwoodburn2616 4 года назад
@@josephcorcoran8714 I have several Bassman 10's. You are spot on regarding pedals. I have two that I love in particular...both 1974 so 70 watt output. I use them in a stereo rig with guitar. If the Bassman 10 had been made with a properly sized enclosure it would still be ruling studios today as a bass amp. It was too shallow but at least it was sealed so it was still pretty good! AMAZING through an Eden anythingx10 or even my old Ampeg 8x10. Try that and it will shock you! Those amps got a bad rap as guitar amps because they sounded nothing like the previous iterations. They are clean right to the top. Loud too! Same issue with silver face Supers, the master volume model in particular. Think "Twin" more than Bassman or Super and you have a starting place to develope a great sound.

I just got my hands on a bassman 100 like in the video. It needs some serious work but I will get it up and running. Something I found strange about these silverface models... the tiny princetons and champs etc fetch a high dollar where I live but these big bassman heads are an absolute bargain? Do people just like the smaller amps better?

Hi, Johan! If you ask me, what is the most classic, I think 69 Twin and 71 too. And Deluxe of 63. My special attention was around N°75, very rare one. But I am speaking only about strats. I think that's it. The legendary glass crystal sound of strat is not working with one of my strats, the expensive one is more bass-giving. And the Mexican is very very different - I swear, it is the real metal chainsaw!:-) Nice comparison! See you! Zigfrid

Way impressed with the Super Twin Reverb. Unless you’re using an attenuator, though, it’s gotta be *crazy* loud! I have a pair of silverfaces: a ‘68 Princeton, non reverb version; and a ‘69 Bassman head. The Princeton is a terrific clean platform for home use, while the Bassman is a real rocker. I run the Bassman into a Hi-Tone 2x12” cab (a US-made Hiwatt repro w/ custom-voiced Eminence versions of the classic ‘70s Fane purpleback speakers) via a Fryette Power Station, to save me from going deaf. :)

Jonny Beck Rivera super Champ is rated 18w. It is pretty loud 18w, the stock speaker sounds better than the luxury version equipped with an EV, but the stock speaker gets quite hot when pushed. I played a super champ for a while, it didn’t do it for me, too boxy, no bass, quite bright. They are super highly sought after, 1000€+ is ridiculous (as is 2000€+ for SF amps from the late 70s). I wonder when all business consultants and dentists will have filled their collections and we normal people can get our amps at decent prices again. The only one that fell a little short for me was the 75--not a classic Fender sound at all. The 69 Twin was awesome--you must have been blasting it though to get that much dirt. The Vibrolux too was hands-down cooking.

Thanks Steve! Yeah the Twin was almost cranked!

It's all down to the speaker. Put a 12 inch speaker in there with the right frequency curve and you'd have your fender sound.

Lots of great tones as always, but to my ears the '73 Deluxe is flawless.

The usual harsh loose sloppy scooped american semi dirt tone amps, neither clean enough or dirty enough. Johans great tho.

Johan Segeborn - good man. Thanks for not being offended. Being in the usa i grew up more or less forced to use all these amps due to them being common and cheap, but never liked them, very sick of all these amps...always lusted after the uk amps, which i finally got later on, like the other ones you use
