When assessing ceramics in a flexible rifle armor its important to understand the differences between the most common types of ceramic used. That includes AL203 and SIC. AL203 is "softer" and heavier by identical volume of SIC but theres much more that goes into it than just specs on paper.
We find that AL203 is more appropriate for Flexible Rifle Armor as it is does not flake or break with movement. Even when shot the tiles stay relatively intact, On the other hand the harder and lighter SIC tiles easily flake and break apart when rubbed against one another. You can see that clearly in the video.
Another important thing to note is that you typically need to use a thicker SIC tile to get the same results as an AL203 tile. So even though the material itself is heavier by identical volume to SIC the fact that we can use less of it means weights are very similar.
