My knee “sleeve” is from our Canadian chain, Rexall. It is their ‘Be Better’ own brand and made of bamboo. Hand-washed gently. I tried others but they itched. This $25 one is great for my fitness-class wearing and also gardening (since I get lost in time, Energizer Bunny style!). Exercises as per RU-vid videos are keeping me active at 72. Turmeric (with ground black pepper) on my salmon & chicken help me. Yup, aging sucks! 😃
Sounds great C. Wilson. We hope you have seen our exercise videos . It would be a great addition to your routine. I can't wear most knee braces because they have either latex or neoprene both of which I'm allergic to. I bought one from Bioskin which isn't made from either of those materials and no more itchiness.
Thanks! I was recently diagnosed with very severe osteoarthritis in both knees. It started more than 30 years ago when I tore the ACL in one knee, and it was never dealt with. The babying of that unstable knee led to an imbalance and arthritis with bone spurs in the other knee too. Doctor wants to do replacements on both knees. But I am researching conservative treatments first. He was willing to do cortisone injections in both knees yesterday. He said that insurance won't approve gel (visco) injections as long as the cortisone shots work. He isn't in favor of bracing because he is convinced I need knee replacements. He is probably correct, but I want to postpone them as long as possible. Watching your video and others this morning has helped me identify that I need hinged knee braces to add stability to the knee with the ACL tear and also end stage arthritis. I can use a simple compression brace on the other knee for its end stage arthritis pain though.
These videos sre life changing. I worked as a nurse for 27 years. I had meniscus repair on both my knees after i had worked for 15 years. I had to stop working after 27 years. The doctor said total knee replacements at 53. I said no. I would have to have surgery again in 10 years. Doctor told me i should have never gone back to work after the surgery. So here I am 11 years after retirement with another meniscus repair and arthritis. The difference is I came upon these videos. Just trying to walk correctly lessen my pain. My back no longer hurts. I plan to do three sessions of physical therapy then switch over to the recomended exercises. I feel better already. I will work on my walking technique before going for walks outside. After being immobile for 8 months I am ready to get back to walking and exercising. Thanks
I have knee problems ( arthritis) if you sit with your legs dangling with weights around your ankle and swing your leg freely to get blood flowing to the joint will it regenerate the ligament in the knee?
I almost never take any pain relievers for my arthritis. I have pain every day, sometimes up to a level 6 or 7 depending how I move. My brace helps to reduce the frequency of the harder pain, but not the intensity. I have what I think is an unloader brace, though it's different from the one you show. The problem is that I can't get it to stay in the correct place for the unloader to be effective. So I just use it as support. With my insurance I only paid 10%, and it was $75 for me!
objuan6: " this getting old is for the birds" As an Octogenarian, I told my dear wife that I wanted no more birthday celebrations. I was tired of big numbers. She said THINK OF THE ALTERNATIVE!! Gulp. Think I continue to WANT birthdays after all......
I’m 73 and have been wearing Townsend Rebel Reliever (ie. Offloader ) Braces for 4+ years to deal with a Varus Condition in both knees where medial cartilage is completely worn down. I’ve continued to work out with Bodyweight & HIIT exercises and can attest to the fact that the braces have been beneficial in helping me remain active, but fall far short of being a permanent solution to my knee arthritis. I'm 4 Months TKR Post-Op on my left knee. Hoping to be free of Braces completely(ie. TKR on the Right Knee) by the end of 2023.
I need need replacement due to oestoartheritis. My pain mgmt dr said to hold off and get a custom made 3D printed knee brace cause it takes load of my knee (which is bone on bone) and it will take away pain and allow me to walk and feel many ears younger. Are you aware of these and if so how does it compare with what you have here (prob more expensive and I do need prescription). thanks for all your information on these videos.
I’m just wondering how many people benefit from your service. I have been trying to find cure for my knee and here you generous helping me. I thank you so much ❤
I have the one with hinges and a patella hole. One thing I like about it that’s different from others I tried is that it doesn’t put pressure on the kneecap. I’m relieved to have come across your channel and to have some hope of avoiding knee replacement.
First off I want to say thank you. I just found your videos a couple days ago and am very excited about your approach. I have been to PT many times for the same knee issue and have not felt any better or gotten any stronger. In the back of my mind I knew it had to be something else and you have proven it to be true, it just makes sense. I started the glute exercises this morning and now have a positive attitude. Thanks again.
I had knee surgery some forty years ago for a torn cartilage (which they removed). In those days it was quite a lengthy recovery with physio concentrating on the thigh muscle (hummm). Anyway, I am a fairly fit woman and have maintained the same body weight, 5'4", 120 lbs. through out my life. Now, all these years later my doctor tells me the pain I am having is from arthritis and knee replacement surgery is my only option. Will these exercises be helpful in my situation? I am starting them today. Thank you for caring
Hook 'em Horns! Have had chondromalacia 3 years, and now both lateral and medical torn meniscus. The brace with metal on the sides gave me horrible leg cramps at night. I have tried so many, but the brst is from Walgreens, and its a sleeve by Mueller. That, icing, rest and exercise are my therapy. I am 68 and want to remain active.
Thanks so much for making these videos. My question is if i swim and do breast stroke which uses my glutes and my leg muscles is it harming my knees stage two arthritis? U r really giving ppl hope and creating a positive attitude for the public. I have a wonderful surgeon as my dr as I have arthritis and I'm in early stages. Here's his excellent advice, go swimming, don't do butterfly as I had a bad fracture in my arm last yr. I do all other styles of swimming too, even side stroke . My arm is 90 percent perfect , no surgery was done. Ur advices on the knees r the same as his just urs is more detailed. My point is I can trust u, so can the public. So I want u to do one video on swimming. If u can plz answer my question. I'll come back here to find it. God bless you and ur family.
Hi doctor i’ve been having a lot of problems with my left knee and recently I find out I have a torn my knee cartilage so the doctor recommend a surgery. I’ve been taking a lot of pressure out of my left knee i’m putting all the weight on my right knee to order to protect my right knee what should I do also when I’m trying to walk around bone is cracking making noise please if you can give me advice
Where is the best place to shop for knee braces for those of us that are a bit heavier? And how do you measure accurately to ensure you get the right size?
I have big legs, so the pull-on braces roll down, get tight, and cut my circulation after walking or sitting a few minutes. I bought one similar to the 3rd one but with large Velcro wrap around tabs and has a hole in the middleto align with my knee. I purchasedit at Wal-Mart XL. The velcro bands are pretty stretchy. I guess that's why it fits my large legs best. I put it on on the outside of my pant while working outside. Actually, I wear it all day. It slides a little. I just readjust it. But not very often. It's comfortable. It works best for me sinc I love working outdoors. Hope this info will help someone else...
These.braces can only fit skinny legs they will ridde down with out a dought if they make larger sizes maybe people with.thicker legs mingt get away with.wearing. these brases
Hello I am 65 yrs old and I have osteoarthritis in my right knee. As per one of your video explanations, I’m on level 3. I like to know what type of exercises are not good for osteoarthritis(knee,Hip) Most of the exercises are involved in bending the knee. If I don’t do the exercises such as walking, lunges, burpee’s; some stretches, lifting knee high etc I won’t be able to reduce my weight, which means I’m getting bigger and putting more pressure on my knee. What is your advice or suggestion. Please respond.
You may have already addressed this and I was trying to scan through the other questions and missed it. My daughter and I both are over weight. We have both tried to wear the stretchy braces. We have trouble with it sliding down, the more we walk the further down it goes. It will eventually hit the top of our shoes. Please let us know how to fix this.
Hi Doctor, I've been dealing with chondromalacia patella for some months now, currently on physical therapy and anti-inflammatory meds. My orthopedic said not to use a knee brace however my therapist told me to get one, after wearing the brace for maybe 2 hours or so, I ended taking it off as I was in pain for a bit, had to rest and ice my knee. Is this normal to happen? Do you recommend wearing a brace for my condition?
I have tried many types of braces over the years and use only when I play golf. The one I like the most is made by 3M and has hinges on sides and Velcro straps on top and bottom. My knee will expand over the 4 to 5 hours of a golf game. Having straps allow me to easily loosen the brace as my knee expands. Previously when i use the sleeve type, it feels comfortable initially but is too tight when my knee expands.
Ty! I have an old knee injury where I overstretched ligament and I re-injured it when I twisted it the wrong way getting off of a certain machine at the gym :( The information on the braces was very helpful. I have the first 2 you showed & they help. I alternate between the 2 intermittently, and I am strengthening my leg muscles with the exercises from my P.T. I am also a massage therapist I receive massages as well so I utilize my physical therapy exercises, go to the gym & receive massages as well as taking Ginger, supplements and glucosamine sulfate.
Hey Tina! It sounds like you've got a solid plan going!!! We sincerely hope that you get back to 100% as fast as possible!!! Be patient! It may take some time!
Your Teaching is Epic!! Retired Nurse. Medial bone on bone. Getting ready for surgery. Deeply concerned about cement breaking down and getting into my blood stream. I am an El Pasoan. I’ve been watching all of your knee videos I can find. The info has been so helpful. 😁💕🙏🏼
Are you talking about aquatic exercise ? I wasn’t sure if I had a tear or arthritis in one of my knees from strenuous walking and running. I started back to aqua size twice a week and it took a month before I started to feel a difference that got better as the weeks went by . I also used a compression sleeve during the day .
I live in Canada and recently discovered your videos. Thank you so much for the easy to understand information. I have implemented the walking techniques and dangly legs. Im looking forward to watching more of your videos. I wish I had access to YOUR pt. You are a god send. I have sent the link to my sister in England who also suffers with knee problems. Please keep up the good work ❤️🇨🇦
I have a torn meniscus that won’t seem to heal and I have arthritis my knee has been swollen for a year. I have been going to physical therapy but the swelling is not going down
I have a brace that I have had for 10 years. It is a custom made one which cost a fortune ($1500) and is called an Uploader brace! It had 4 straps. One behind my knee, one above my knee (thigh) and one below my calf. The last one starts on the inside of my leg and goes under and up the other sides to the top of my leg. It helps to separate the bones in my knee. It also has fibreglass piece on my thigh and in my calf for stability. I find it really helps to alleviate the pain!
I got bone seat on bone both of my knees and I try everything nothing work for me. I been watching ur videos hopefully I try seating down exercise hope help me in some point.
I have arthritis on inside of right knee. I injured it when strained it pulling myself out of a low seat repeatedly. My doctor prescribed me the lateral uploader brace to push open the bone on bone from outside knee. It helps stabilize my knee and allows me to walk safely. I really need to strengthen my glutes and foot. I'll ask for physical therapy next because I get confused if I'm doing something correctly. Plus getting older I appreciate the professional support. It's work staying mobile. Thanks for your informative channel.
I tried 3 different sleeves off Amazon and none helped my knee pain/ Arthritis, I work 10 hour days on my feat at Amazon btw and found one that I can strap on over my pants and it really helps! I get through my work shifts with much less pain. Sleeves didn’t work for me.
Hey Teshaan Marcus, a heat and massage brace would likely be good for your knee if you have rheumatoid arthritis. It would give you some temporary relief so that you might sleep better and take less medication. You'll have to give it a try and see if it helps you.
I have bone on bone knees ,had an ACL replacement and was told my body aborbed it. I am trying to find a brace that will stop my right knee from going out sideways and to help with chronic pain. I also have arthritis too. Thank you
Excellent video with Great useful information . question: if one can use ankle weights while doing the exercises that you had recommended in other videos . Thanks
I am very off balance I have cerebral palsy on my left side of my body my left leg and my arm that throws me off my strong side is my normal side and that's my right side which muscle palsy I don't balance very well and I fell not being able to go to the doctor for a whole two and a half years because of the lockdown was not able to see no doctor until my doctor gave me a telecall and sent me paper to go see a physical therapist they didn't do anything for me and I am still having problems was my right side of my knee I limit myself I'm baby in myself although I purchased a total gym for myself because it has Pilates a bicycle attachment to it my doctor the only prescribed me gel medication for my knee medication that's on parents that I put on my knee knee patches I do have a gym membership I have not been there an over two-and-a-half years I never had a problem I was lifting 199 lb of weight with my legs at that time but when I fell I'm not being able to work out aggravated the more pain in my knee
Both knees have Arthritis, The left knee bothers me more than right knee, It's getting where shots don't work that well. It's bone on bone in my knee joint.
There is one other type not mentioned and that's the compression-style brace with wrap straps. Probably would slot between the compression brace and the hinged brace.

Hey Tracy! The right exercise that helps to better stabilize and control your leg joints can definitely help stop your knees from giving way. It's usually glute and foot exercises that help the most because those muscles tend to be weak in common knee problems.
My problem us not arthritis. It is from an injury. I do have weakness in my knee. Squats are out of rhe question, also lunges. I have several knee braces. From inexpensive, to relatively expensive.
Dr. David, I just found your sight and have begun watching your videos and plan on watching all of them on knees several times and taking notes and making plans on how to attack and care for my knees in order to avoid knee replacement surgery. I had a medial meniscus tare several years ago that had to be scoped and trimmed due to damage during exercise. I’m not sure how you feel but I believe the good Lord made our bodies to heal itself if we take care of it in the right way! That’s why I was so intrigued to watch your videos and hear your advice. I just wanted to say hello and say that I will be contacting you and seeking your guidance and will consider myself as a patient of yours. Thanks for what I have already learned, and I look forward to communicating with you in the very near future. What is the best way for me to contact you? Have a blessed and prosperous day!
I am new to your channel. My Knees have both lost the ligaments or whatever it is that deteriorates. It just feels like bone on bone. It feels like I can't walk. And they say that I am not a candidate for surgery yet. How far gone do my nails have to be, how much more disabled do I have to become in order for me to be a candidate for surgery
Hey Julie, the decision to get surgery really depends on you and your doctor. Usually if your doctor tells you you're not a surgical candidate, but you're feeling miserable enough to not want to walk, then you're probably VERY irritated in your knee joints. If you can get the irritation under control and then work on correcting your muscle imbalance, then you can probably get to feeling significantly better WITHOUT surgery. Gel infusions did nothing for me. My doctor reccomends a knee replacement. Im scared but I cant live with this pain. Its bone on bone and it hurts terribly.
how do I brace my left knee inside of it, that hurts after I walk a while, just that one spot, I have several braces and they are not helping, I want to walk and hike so bad but that one spot on my knee hurts like the dickens.
Ordered correct size for my knee circumference but feels like a tourniquet on my thigh? Top rolls down and constricts my thigh.. suggestions? It was a sleeve type.. the hinge brace dr gave me presses on my tender missing meniscus and of no use.. help!!
I have osteoarthritis in my left knee- stage 3. I usually don’t have much pain but yesterday I could barely walk. It felt as though my knee was giving out on me. I needed assistance to walk. I don’t know what to think about this because it has never happened before. Would a brace be helpful? If so, which one? I so appreciate your videos because I am never going to have a knee replacement! Thank you for your advice.
None of those work for me, infact they aggravate the knee pain more. One that does work for me is one that I bought off Facebook. It leaves the knee exposed but give support on the side and back. I think it is made in China. It works very well for me.
i recently went to a Urgent care to xray my left knee..its stiff and pops when sitting for a while, they said its Osteoarthritis. Pains more on my left side of the knee. I got doctor appointment in 2 weeks. When im walking Im fine. Hope its not real bad news. Thanks for posting these vids
I'm not sure what stage I am. I get significant swelling, grinding, pain. X-ray shows joint space loss and osteophytes. I walk a lot at work and I wear just the compression sleeve. It has been a life saver for me. Mine doesn't have any supports whatsoever. Just a sleeve. No knee cap stabilizers. Just compression.
Hey Anthony! Compression braces can be useful to help with the inflammation! If you would like to learn more about knee arthritis and what stage you may be in, we have a great playlist of videos that can help with that. Here is a link: “Knee Arthritis Pain Help” ru-vid.com/group/PLJVIPiFvv1maa9YF-WmKLF7oI4VoczH8i
You are amazing. I learned so much in just one video, thanks. Keep up the good my left knee is giving me some pain so my Dr. Suggested an off loading brace and I’m just now learning more on the Does and donts.
Which brace would you suggest if you have bone-on-bone in all three knee compartments? I don't have pain and have good knee strength. Just want to unload my knee the best I can when playing sports. Thank you for your wonderful videos! I'm a fan!
Thank you for enlightening me On knee arthritis. I was reminded that my left leg is half an inch shorter than my right and àlso i have scoliosis oof my spine.I also fell on my left knee more than ten years ago. I now have arthritis. In my left knee which is now acting up at 85!
Thank you for the enlightening and informative video. I am undergoing physical therapy for knee osteoarthritis and partially torn ACL and meniscus. This video will guide me in choosing the knee sleeve.
I wore the third type showed in this video for a "runner knee" problem. If I wore it to jog, I would not have knee pain. If didn't wear it to jog, I surely would get knee pain. This was very black and white. That was after I had a knee surgery to clean up the "runner knee" problem and had already built up the muscles around my knee. I used past tense because my knee had a different problem, and I had a second surgery on the same knee. I am still recovering and rebuilding the muscles around my knee, and I don't dare to resume jogging yet.
Hello 🙂 I loved this video and explanation. Can you please please suggest knee braces for dancers? I did have swelling in my knees. I am taking rest as much as I can. But in the future if I want to dance and do some movements please suggest me the best one for practice 😊
Hey Noorie, great question! To our knowledge, there are no specific braces for dancers available. Braces are usually made based on the injury type and support needed. Dancing can require all kinds of movements and any brace is likely to shift and move quite a bit. Your best option is to make sure you address the underlying root problem of your knee pain. That way you don't feel the need to wear a brace. Rest is great to do if you're currently swollen, but eventually you need to strengthen yourself. Usually glute muscles are at fault in knee pain cases. Getting stronger glutes before you go back into dancing would probably be the best option for you. You can learn more glute exercises here: “Top 5 Glute Muscle Exercises For Knee Pain” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NXdCjT2QtJA.html “Top 6 Standing Glute Exercises To Help Knee Pain” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jD7IRBfJ-mM.html
Hi. A few weeks ago you replied to a comment I sent and have now been doing some of the glute exercises to some good results. I am not thinking about getting an offloader brace to help with the bone on bone pain and a little under the kneecap. I watched this video of yours about braces and wondering if you have heard of a company called Spring Loaded Technology. They have a brace labeled as a Tri-compatment Offloader.
This was helpful. I was just diagnosed with osteoarthritis yesterday. It was recommended to get the unloader brace. I start physical therapy next week, so we'll see what they say. I am hoping to be able to get back to running by this fall.
Those pull on knee braces cut into my thigh and roll over. Men and women have different legs and shapes and this one size fits all or S-M- L-XL etc... doesn't work for me.
I like your vids on knee problem I have (mcl related on both legs). However since I am in Chennai, India I don't know how to order these. Anyways I wish you the best. 😊👍
I'm 85 I've been getting the injections for the last 9 years nothing seems to help anymore I have bone on bone do you have any suggestions because I turned down surgery years ago and I should have had it and now I'm very weak and I'm having a lot of problems even walking with my roll later
Hi, I’d like to say thank you so much for your help, I just discovered your Chanel and I love it Please I need your help, it’s been 1 year and half I got knee replacement ( right knee) I did physical therapy without success because of pain, I took all kind of anti inflammatory, pain killers but still in pain ( a lot of pain) more than before surgery unfortunately I can’t do exercises to strength my knees, I lost all my thigh muscles ( I used to be an active person) but now the only thing I can do is walking with braces otherwise I can’t because of terrible pain Do you have any advice for me please Thank you so much
Hey Claudette, so sorry to hear that your knee replacement and physical therapy didn't workout for you :-( We have some other great videos describing exactly what you need to do (which using your glutes as much as possible).
