Comparing the Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y’s Luggage Space

The floor of the Mach-E lowers about 4." I was surprised at how well it did without lower the floor before you loaded it up.

Painful to watch you take out the three XL from the Mach-E and then put the two XL back in using a far less efficient method over and over. Makes me think you were trying to stack the deck.

Back in college I used to have one of those baby food squidgies at least once a day. They're so easy to carry with you and they're so much better than anything you can get in a vending machine or in a pinch :). We are loving our Mach-E :) also did a trunk test with my very specific recumbent trike and that was the biggest test for me! - Liv

It looked like all three extra large cases would fit stood up in the same way as the left hand extra large one. And some people are better than others in fitting luggage into an available space. Lol

Model Y is more spacious than I expected, but both have plenty of space for the average carrying needs. Especially considering the extra frunk space.

I am on a camping trip with 3 kids. So 6 person tent, 2 queen air mattresses, 5 sleeping bags, luggage for 5 for 5 days, full sized cooler, computer bag, camera bag, 2 canvas bags of food. So the Model Y was maxed out, including side pockets and under storage and frunk. The Mach E is a no go in this case.

I think you’d get another carry-on in the Y next to the one you put on top? so side by side. Both still bigger than I’d need :)

You forgot to lower the floor in the Mustang Mach-E :( You could fit much more and bigger bags then :)

That Model Y is much more cavernous than people realize.

You have Mach E boot floor at highest level you can drop it several inches to add more luggage capacity.

This was the best game of Tetris! The Mach-E frunk has a cutout space in the hood for oversized cargo so baggage can be taller than the space itself. Would the XL bags fit vertically in the MME? If you had a dog, it would probably be really worried seeing all those luggage bags.

What are the dimensions of the large luggage pieces?

Model Y clearly holds more. Although the MME is good enough. Now if only Tesla would redesign the model y to look less ugly.

The model Y does win here with more overall trunk space, particularly with that sub trunk. Not sure why they didn't add that to the Mach-E? Overall I think the Mach-E sacrifices a bit of utility for much more appealing proportions and shape, and in my opinion it's a pretty good compromise between sex appeal and practicality. 😆🤣 That said, the floor on the Mach-E does have a lower position sitting a couple inches lower, giving you a more height to stack items. You had the floor in the high position in your test which is not really a fair comparison. Also if your going to compare apples to apples you should have started loading the Mach-E in the exact same configuration as the model Y. Changing the config really changes things quite a bit. This is still a great demonstration though of real world trunk space though. 👍

I test drove Mach E. It's faster than I expected and drives well. It's better than the regular mustang and I feel it will compete directly with Fords own sedans. The software and range are much better on Tesla. Either way this the future.

May I know dimensions of your extra large suitcases?

Do you fly with those suitcases because you will be overweight. When I Last-minute pack I seem to forget stuff. Now I use lists and pack ahead of time.

Mmmmmm the bigger the electric car the more stuff 😁. My wife would fill a lorry just as well I travel light, 3 of us in a little i3 ev 3 fold up bikes and 2 big travel bags 1 dog and dog bed🤣 on top. We where looking at a second hand Tesla S it looked massive.

The Y seems more practical than the E.

I think Mach-E is better car but considering Autopilot and Supercharger network, Model Y provides better experience.

Honestly both did great. That should easily fit the luggage for a family of 5 for a week. If you need more luggage than that, probably rent a van.

While I appreciate the space in both cars, I believe the Model Y has more cargo room. Buying specific luggage to maximize a specific car's cargo room would be helpful.

I have some advice for you. You should draft a filming plan before shooting each video, including plans of actual test, list of criteria and very importantly camera positions. This video could be very helpful, but it include so much unnecessary talking and messing around that's off point, that it is painful to watch. For trunk space test, I like Alex on Autos. You need to be clear, precise and somewhat scientific. And having a plan before you load is a good start. I hope it helps.

Shannon ..... that's too much luggage. I'm an early packer .... and when I go away for a week, all I need is 1 small carry on. (I pack it nice and tight) I clearly think that the Mustang wins. Once again the Mach E is second to a Tesla. Most people that buy a Mach E over a Tesla are doing it for dumb reasons. Tesla is clearly the winner....once again. But, if people want to buy a Mach E that would never buy a Tesla, great! It gets them into an EV.
