Got super lucky and found an absolutely perfect UK TML copy here in the States for a really reasonable price…but I might have to seek out the German pressing now. I’ve been in the same boat as you and your friend in trying to find a nice copy sonically, so thank you for the info! Such a great album
Can you please do 2pac’s 1995 classic album me against the world because it’s 2pac’s most introspective effort to date. Hitting the shelves while he was still in prison, the album helped shift his image from that of ganngsta rapper to more of a gangster poet, setting the stage for 2pac to become one of the most famous mcs in the world.
It's the German TML A3/B3 that is the best for this record. He's right too, the German is better than the UK. Mine was basically mint when I found it. In an antique shop, sitting on a chair. I asked the lady running the store, "Oh, I loved Andy Warhol, bought it for the cover. Played side one once". I picked it up, thought it sounded great. Better than any other version. Had no idea why till a few years later......
I have a late 1970s British pressing, bought from Jem Records mail order in the early 1980s. Clean and sharp. The MFSL sounds like a novelty record, and I keep it just to play for friends.
I bought the cd version of it and listened to the album on RU-vid. They both sounded great to me. I'm just happy this legendary "old" music is still there for us to listen to.
My sweet, cute friend, I was at the record shelf today, where there is vinyl that I no longer listen to: I discovered two pressings of FINGERS, one from 1986 (on CBS, Europe) and one from the 90s (Virgin). The latter sounds terrible - incredibly punchless - whereas I'm quite pleased with the 80s pressing. However, I have to say that it doesn't have the dynamics I was hoping for. (Charlie's drumming on “Can't You Hear Me Knocking”, for example, is not as powerful as it could be. The 2016 CD remaster shows what the recordings actually contain.) But all in all, It's an “okay” pressing, I would say. Of course, I dusted it off thoroughly beforehand, washed it with dedication and put it in a new anti-static inner sleeve. My question: do you know the '86 pressing from Europe? Best regards from Munich.
LPCent 38 Virgin UK repressing 1997….that’s a good repress it isn’t cheap, but it’s good. To my ears, it’s the only repressing that I’ve heard that can match the OGs. It’s damn good. I sadly don’t have a TML German pressing…😞
@@top5records796 no, I don’t. Is it on the dead wax? It’s impressive. I have 8 versions of SF…a free duplicates but most are various US pressings. This is right up there with the OGs.
@@Donjasoni I checkes discogs it is a digital remaster by Bob Ludwig. Which is interesting; I’m rarely impressed by digital remastering but then again, Bob Ludwig is a legend. Sounds like an interesting comparison!
@@top5records796 oh wow!!! I didn’t realize that. That would certainly explain why it’s good. If it’s going to have a digital reissue at least it’s Robert Ludwig that reissued it. I don’t know if they confirmed that it was definitely digital but I imagine it was. Regardless, it’s pretty impressive. It’s as good as any of the OGs I have. The Presswell OG sounds excellent. I recently purchased a Sonic pressing that I will compare (I hear that’s good). I’ve not heard a monarch. I’ve never heard a TML. I really want one but I never see them around. I’d be interested to hear how you think the Robert Ludwig reissue compares to it.
Beautiful assessment. Not a real tech guy even though I'm a musician. Always felt Charlie wasn't loud enough, so maybe that bass-y sounding pressing is the one for me.
I have a lot of different pressings of this LP and a 7 1/2 IPS Reel to Reel tape. The R2R is the best sounding format for me. The German (1st) A3/B3 T.M.L. is the best sounding vinyl. 2nd would be the UK and German A4/B3 T.M.L. Remember the UK & German both use the same plates. All masted by Doug Sax? I think so.
It’s the initials of the mastering engineer…although Doug Sax did the record so idk…but it’s on some of the Original UK and German pressings. It’s rumored to be the best vinyl pressing of Sticky Fingers.
@@Donjasoni it is the initials of the company where (Doug Sax) did the mastering. It is The Mastering Lab. They did a lot of awesome sounding pressings.
Didn't Goats Head Soup get the Blu ray 5.1 treatment for the Super de luxe box set couple years ago, why not do the same for Sticky Fingers that might improve things a little, if any album deserves upgrading Sticky Fingers is that one album✋😎
@@top5records796 It is a very good pressing. I have an American first pressing that is decent but a little beat up and the MF really highlighted details I’d never heard before
Hot take, every vinyl pressing of this album sucks. I bought the 90’s Virgin CD and was blown away by the clarity and detail. I’ve had multiple US, UK, and German pressings and all of them sucked balls compared to the digital remasters this album has had. The closest vinyl pressing I could think of that has that same clarity is the Mobile Fidelity 1981 pressing, but that is unfortunately ruined by the ungodly amount of bass thats in that pressing. Which is why I hate 80s MFSL pressings. Its such a shame that in the 80s, MFSL had some absolutely legendary titles under their banner (Doors S/T, Sticky Fingers, Beatles catalogue, Led Zeppelin II, Cosmos Factory, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, etc) but all of them are completely ruined because of Ricker’s mastering
I just open my 2018 edition and it' .... meuhhh. 2 on 5. 45$ for that.. to finally listen at it on Tidal... The 2020 version of Goat head soup is ok, i'll give it a 4 on 5.
I listen it really today and that's weird, side B sound OK, even really good sometime. Side a: wild Horses sound crap , it's the worse. Things starts to be better with Can't you hear me knocking. That's weird to see those differences between songs on a same album. @@top5records796
@@top5records796 well its only a conjecture because of their age. Analog Tapes definitely degrade naturally with age. Other bands have opened their tapes to find them disintegrated. That being said Stones probably have best storage money can buy and several backup copies. Another factor is this album was recorded in several different studios during a tour, not a year long period where they intended to make an album so even the master tapes are just not recorded as well as other albums. The sonic fidelity isnt as great as possible. It’s not terrible but they didnt focus and spent max effort on that front
