I miss Jason Griffith and Ryan Drummond. EDIT: Jeez, all I said was I missed them. Never said anything about one being better than the other or about them being dead.
I’m 99% sure Jaleel was the blueprint for Sonic having that kind of “yo totally radical, bro” voice. Wish people would talk about him as much as they talk about Ryan, Jason and Roger more.
That’s why I always imagine him as Classic Sonic, I honestly probably wouldn’t have accepted anybody else for the role if they didn’t go the mute route in Generations!
@@Thenumber1yoshi classic Sonic and cartoon Sonic are different, and as much as I also like Jaleel's voice, classic Sonic is and always should be mute.
@@cornpop2630 meanwhile, sonic in 3d blast, sonic cd and from the ova: mkay bro sonic was never intended to be mute. in the 90s, the game consoles had limitations so giving the classic games any sort of dialogue would just overload the system AND the games, it was a show-don't-tell trick that worked perfectly. and now.. they probably just wanted him to be a kid in newer games, with all those funny faces n shit, both as a contrast to modern sonic and to pay respect to older games. btw, martin > jaleel, but yall are just not ready to admit.
I've noticed this phenomenon as well. Seeing all these "Jason was best Sonic" comments everywhere feels like I've fallen victim to the Mandela Effect and got thrown into an alternate universe, because I remember people making petitions to get Jason FIRED.
Fun fact: Jaleel White what actually going to voice classic sonic in Sonic generations but Sega for some reason didn't want him to voice classic sonic so it resulted a muted sonic!
Read these sentences in a Jaleel white voice. Wowzers! Two Eggmans? Thats about ten to many! Wowee I have a lot of friends in the future! But wheres mighty, ray, fang, Bean and bark? Is sally here? Scratch and grounder? Flicky? Sonia and manic? Man a lot of people are missing in the future, what did they go on vacation
Jason's voice is definitely my favorite. Snarky and confident while still keeping that light-hearted heroic tone, and his voice sounds like it could easily fit with both modern and classic Sonic's appearances and personalities. Not too cheesy, sounds nice and genuine for Sonic's character, 20/10 imo
Nah, Ryan was the best. He could balance being serious and still sound fun, cocky, and energetic, while Jason leaned towards the more serious and/or calm and collected side.
To be fair, that was in the earlier days where sonic’s voice wasnt as defined. She went with her own take, and it just hasn’t held up. No need to hate on her.
@@raygarcia4063 What a graceful reply. Sure, pretend that the intent was not to insult him. You're not convincing me by acting like a condescending douche. A heartfelt apology that it wasn't meant as an insult would have done the trick, but apparently you lack the maturity for that.
Roger ain’t bad, I’d like to hear him in a setting with more attitude than pun central sonic (I have no issues with puns, but modern sonic is basically only puns)
The problem is that he can't do anything but happy and cocky. The others have more flexible voices. Also, *THIS MAKES MY WORDS IMPORTANT APPARENTLY, SO I'LL JUST DO IT FOR EVERY SENTENCE BECAUSE I WANT TO BE NOTICED BY SOMEONE!*
I wouldn't go as far to say Ryan COULDN'T do those things, so much as that was all he was given to work with. Personally I think if Ryan was given the same V.A. direction and opportunities as Jason Griffith he would have turned out to be the best of the 3. Especially considering how good he was after only a few games. Whereas Griffith took a while to sound decent as Sonic and Smith is still working out the bugs.
“How many voices of Sonic do you recognize here?” Me: Hahahaha.. ONE. Update: Okay since barely one gets the joke, search up Sonic 06 fandub after this.
Ryan Drummond sounds most natural to me, like he wasn't "acting" in a sense. But actually talking as sonic. His best performance was definitely sonic heroes though. Jason griffith was SPECTACULAR in the black Knight, but before that I thought his voice was annoying (especially that laugh). I could always tell that someone was "acting" as sonic in his run. Sorry Roger craig Smith doesn't have have any epic line readings or moments as sonic that the other two always had. I'm always aware that someone is doing a sonic voice behind a mic. But honestly, I just like his voice🙄 it's just the lines he's given can be awful.
Omari Walker: You took the words out of my mouth. Nostalgia aside, Jason Griffith was only good from "The Black Knight" forward. Before that he was very rough, despite having a tv show and multiple games to practice on. Drummond was good right out of the gate and just got better as he went on. He easily could have been the best.
Nobody at all is talking about Jaleel, He's one of the best sonic voice actors in my opinion. Cocky, but not annoying. He also sounds like what sonic, the hot rod should sound like based on how he acts in the games.
Jason Griffin and Ryan Drummond are my favorite Roger Craig Smith is trying his best And I don’t know who the hell decided to hire Meg Inglima but that was the wrong decision Ben Schwartz did a amazing job voicing Sonic in the Sonic Movie can’t wait for the sequel coming out
+MasterSwordProductions omg ikr!!!!!! tx good to know SOMEBODY gets it!! (also from SC ;D XD XD) and yeah, Roger is cancer... X( if Sega was smart they would hire Jason Grifith or Ryan Drummond back to voice Sonic >.
I genuinely don't understand why people constantly bash on Roger Craig Smith's voice for Sonic. Personally, I think he has a sharp and crisp voice along with a great deal of enthusiasm.
Don’t get me wrong he doesn’t have a bad voice but imo I just don’t think it suits him, he sounds to old for sonic to me, another reason I think people hate his voice is because it’s such a big change in his voice, almost seems like a whole different character lol
Martin Burke is personally my absolute favourite! His slightly high pitched youthful voice goes really well with classic sonic. It is as if classic sonic had his own real voice.
Although Jason is my favourite Roger is pretty awesome too. I think the only reason people complain about his voice sounding childish is because the games he worked in are childish, he will do better in forces for sure
Subarashi _ No, it's because the terrible writing makes him suck! You can't have good acting without good writing. Sonic in LEGO Dimensions was the only time Roger and the rest of the cast was good because it didn't have the idiot writers Pontac and Graff involved.
Besides roger is a good voice actor overall. He can really change the pitch and tone of his voice to sound serious as well. Listen to the english dub voice of deidara from naruto and you'll know what I mean
What's the point in that? The scripts the current VAs get nowadays are atrocious. In fact, I'm glad he resigned after SatBK. He saved his own talent from being wasted on Colors, LW, and so on.
GameBeAr People barely even talk about him anymore. All people do is go on and on about how amazing Griffith is, when not too long before Unleashed and Black Knight everyone was talking about how much they hated him. Everyone's so quick to hop on the bandwagon.
Ah really? That explains a lot. Thank you for that information :) It is a shame he can't come back when he was soooooo GOOD! I know what you mean. One reason why I love Sonic so much was hearing him and watching him on Sonic X! Jason Griffith needs to be told :)
Ja'Ninja'N ive always felt that way! I dont mind roger but its just alil too deep for me, i first realized the voice change in sonic colors, and it took me a while to get used to it, jason in sonic X had it perfect
As much as I love Jason Griffith’s Sonic, I much prefer Ryan Drummonds, it just sounds so much more natural, smooth, and fluent sounds like how I always felt sonic should sound, even though I grew very comfortable and familiar with Jason’s sonic, Ryan has that special place and I wish he lasted
I respect that but I prefer Ben Schwartz because he's like a mix of Jason griffith, Roger Craig Smith, Ryan Drummond, OVA sonic, Junichi kanemaru/the Japanese sonic voice actor (he played him the longest from the adventure games to sonic x, Jasons modern sonic all the way to Roger's version and Ben sounds exactly like an English speaking version of him), Jaleel white, Sam Vincent, CD sonic, Masami Kikuchi(japanese version of OVA), and Penny Parker from snapcube but childish, immature, naive, innocent, adorable, and with a quirky 13 to 14 year old teenage kid youthful energy. He has the energy and coolness of Ryan, emotion, seriousness and somewhat cockiness of Jason, humor, sarcasm and deep voice of Roger, vocal tone of Martin Burke/OVA, and sassiness and too cool for school attitude of jaleel.
I think we can all agree Meg Inglima or whatever her last name is the worst sonic voice, and Roger does a great job as Boom sonic (also he's ok as an adult modern sonic but he should've had better voice directors, and forces could've been so much better).
Ryan Drummond: "You gonna crash! AH!". Jason Griffit: "I am not a rat! I'm a hedgehog!". Roger Craig Smith: *"bALDy nOsE HaiR".* Ben Schwartz: "Eh... Meow?".
You might know everything Martin Burke is going to do, but that's not going to help you since he knows everything you're going to do! Strange isn't it?
I really miss Drummond. He captured Modern Sonic perfectly. His voice very accurately fit the personality of the character but also the design. The added high pitch made sense because Sonic really isn't very tall, he's like 3 feet or something so it works on what is essentially a 3 foot tall animal mascot character while also making him sound really really cool.
@@arandommewtwo9688 I'm a fanboy of Ryan's Sonic but he didn't sounded great in SA1, but he had to improvise his voice when doing SA1, so that's not his fault But he improved a lot in SA2, and just nailed in Heroes
Jaleel White's importance cannot be understated. He is the foundation and the springboard by which every voice actor emulates. Jaleel laid the blueprint for which the character should sound.
@@bakedbeans5494 lol not at all. He had a great voice for classic Sonic and sonic basically ACTS like a looney tunes cartoon. He wasn’t really “badass cool” yet intill he got into the adventure games and he was more of an attitude filled character with a laid back personality.
@@Gadget-Walkmen He sounded ridiculous especially when he referred to Sally as "Sal" and mando and juice. This is the manipulative side of nostalgia. Also, Classic Sonic doesn't have a voice. Be properly specific.
@@bakedbeans5494 lol EVERYONE knows what I mean when I say “classic Sonic” the rounded soft sonic and especially Jaleel white’s sonic, THAT’S classic Sonic entirely so. And lol he FAR sounded from “ridiculous” at all as Sonic is going to sound VERY cartoony back during the early 90s as most animated furry characters did. Sonic wouldn’t AT ALL seem out of place from Tiny Toons in the slightest. Sonic referring to sally as “sal” is completely in character for the character and the way how it was delivered, as well as the other lines with “mando and juice”. And lol with your nonsense saying “this is the manipulative side of nostalgia” lol just no as I didn’t grow up with early sonic AT ALL before the adventure games era. Nice try but that nostalgia argument isn’t working on me as Jaleel white’s voice sounded great for early animated sonic. “Classic Sonic” ONLY doesn’t have a voice in sonic generation games, nowhere else. Nice try but NO!
@@Gadget-Walkmen Sonic sounded ridiculous but not in a good way like most of the characters from Looney Tunes. He's more on the lines of Scrappy-Doo interms of annoying voice and charactersation. And well done for admitting that Sonic's portrayals in the 90s are outdated and shouldn't be praised. Lastly, stop using the term "Classic Sonic" interchangeably. You literally could have said 90s Sonic instead of trying to sound cool. Do better.
There is literally nothing to sleep on, his was legit ass. Ryan was the fcking best, and i would be okay to have Jason as his replacement, the other ones make wanna fcking puke.
There's a certain charm to Jaleel's Sonic - his voice feels more dynamic and emotive than the others. When I think of a "Sonic Voice" I think of Jason, though.
I prefer Jaleel, especially on the fact that he has SUNG in that voice a few times! The first instance was in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog episode 37 (48th if going by production order) "Black-Bot the Pirate", in which he sings a parody of the nursery rhyme and lullaby "Rock-a-bye Baby". The second and third songs respectively are Crankin' Super Sonic and Way Past Cool (from SatAM episode 12). For Sonic Underground, however, despite singing these songs as Sonic, he was replaced for the music video portions by Samuel Vincent.
@@lra1095 True, nut just imagine Jaleel recording. There's a certain charm to Jaleel's Sonic - his voice feels more dynamic and emotive than the others. When I think of a "Sonic Voice", I hear him. He's even SUNG in that voice! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ev71NMpl3yY.html
Jason Griffith hands down, the emotion and depth his voice gave to Sonic is something nobody else will _EVER_ be able to replicate. I feel like ever since colours was announced (and with that - the new voices for the characters) is when the franchise went downhill, Sonic then became someone i didn't know, something i didn't grow up with. The emotional depth and character was kind of ... lost, for me. Some of the best Sonic performances in my opinion were from the fairytale series, 06 (i actually liked 06 so shhh) and unleashed, All of that work to make Sonic and his companions really tell a story and bond with the player just feels so lost now.
Yo my man you are definitely not alone in that! I may have not picked up on it when i was younger but now, looking back, i see how much of an impact his voice had on my life subconsciously. It probably sounds ridiculous but games and other media that conveys emotions do cling to the people that play and consume them! If its that he's got his life he wants to live now then sure, congratulations. Whatever the reason i'm satisfied with what he's done for us old time fans and hope his life fairs him well for the years to come 0/ I don't understand how some people love Roger's take over Jason's and even Ryan's. Its just not there for me, Sonic lost his 'cool' officially and it just became really cheesy. Don't even get me started on knuckles in Boom. He's just gone now, nothing but a stereotypical archetype.
Idk how long you've been a sonic fan, i guess my opinion is mostly built on the fact that his voice of Sonic is the one i grew familiar with and was able to analyse for a long time in my life. To me, your exact opinion is mine on Roger's haha, he's given Sonic this foreign voice that doesn't reflect on his personality. Then again, a casting director somewhere out there working with Sega thought that was perfect so who am i to judge.
Best Voice: Ryan Drummond. Worst Voice: Meg Inglima. For me it's like this: Ryan: Modern Sonic Jaleel: Classic Sonic Roger: Boom Sonic Jason: Modern Sonic too (but not like Ryan Drummond) Sam Vicent: None. Meg Inglima: The annoying teacher of Biology.
@The Flash of Robloxia CW - Roblox and More I know. But it fits with Boom Sonic. Well.. actually Sonic is an adult, because he was defeating Eggman for decades (In Sonic Forces, Infinite says exactly that). So in part you are right, because the actual Sonic deserves the Roger C. Smith voice, but I simply prefer the Ryan Drummond one. -Thanks for reading!
I’ll always love Jason Griffith the most, he’s the voice actor I grew up with. He’s the only one I know the best, it’s a shame that everyone dislikes him because in my opinion his voice really captures Sonic’s character. Especially in my favorite game, Sonic Unleashed.
It wasnt annoying at all to me.....i mean it was actually one of my favorites.....at least it isnt that one woman who voiced him in that one thing that baldis basics was clearly a ripoff of
@@ultradragon999, Sonic Schoolhouse was made first, but your right still. It's sounds like they just took a non-busy staff member and added them in at the last minute.
Martin Burke was the best Classic Sonic voice by far. Roger Craig Smith didn't appeal to me in Colours, but it has grown on me from Generations. I don't know my favorite modern voice, though. Maybe Ryan Drummond.
+D1MENSI0N Hell no Martin sound gay as hell and plus that Sonic movie suck, Martin Burke voice is annoying on so many levels and his attitude level is too gay, he is no where near as best classic sonic.
Man, I really want Jaleel White to voice Classic Sonic in Sonic Forces. As we've seen, Classic Sonic doesn't talk much, but it'd be nice to have him say one or two lines at the end of the game as a bonus for the fans.
Masato Nishimura, the landscape designer for Sonic CD confirmed on Twitter he actually gave the voice clip for Sonic himself. Also, it's "I'm outer here!".
I honestly don't think the age of Sonic characters matters that much, it's not like they get older or age influences their mental ability or anything like that.
@@matiosmenta But it's even important. Sonic's young characters must sound like young people, not like teens or adults. Roger makes Sonic feeling like a young adult rather than a teen.
Ryan Drummond is the Sonic voice to me because he voiced first full 3D Sonic games; Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. He has a heroic masculine confident sounding voice. I never even heard of Martin before. Sounds like a nasal congestion less masculine heroic voice.
I like Martin because he sounds really cocky but I don't think that he is a good sonic voice in general just for the Ova. I respect your opinion but I think that Jason Griffon Is the best modern sonic voice.
YoshiBlitZ The First I would say Ryan Drummond as he sounds rebellious and like a brat when voicing Sonic, and that’s kinda what Sonic is really (more so in SA2)
Ben Schwartz, voiced sonic the hedgehog in the movie and he actually sounded right for Sonic. But for games and series I don’t think Jason Griffith can be topped. His voice just meshed so well for Sonic and Shadow.
Best: Jason Griffith and Roger Craig Smith Worst: the writing in the post-2010 games It angers me because it feels like Roger's talent is being wasted.
his voice doesn’t work with modern sonics design. it only works with boom because boom sonic looks like an adult, but canon sonic is supposed to be a teenager.
Ryan and Jason are the best. I ain't saying that Roger ain't a good VA it's just his voice doesn't fit Sonic. Sonic Boom Sonic sure. But not cannon Sonic.
Mojtaba Mortada Agreed. The newest guy sounds more modern, but not as nostalgic and just...cocky, way too cocky. I mean, I know Sonic IS cocky, but still...
Ryan Drummond really captured Sonic's personality, if you ask me. On the opposite end, I don't like Roger's voice, at all. Maybe it's just me, but I never hear any emotion from his dialogue, everything just sounding quite monotone.
