I went with the Badcube versions. Pretty much had to due to me being late in this collecting game and the FT versions were all sold out. I'm very happy with them. I'll give FT the edge in a few cases but its still not enough for me to swap out, regardless if the insane prices of the FT versions were more reasonable. Great vid TM. Keep them coming
Same! I just recently started collecting 2 months ago and had to get the BadCube set. I am doing a Season 1 Masterpiece collection and the BadCube Insecticons were the last pieces I needed to complete the collection.
I would get FT Insecticons but their pricing is so damn Astronomical. Like I get Fanstoys make some of the Best MPs in the game but they are so overpriced sometimes, while othertimes they're completely fair. Like the price of a Single FT Insecticon is only 40 bucks away from the Price of a Full Set of Badcube insecticons. And Rn FT Mercenary goes for the same Price as the WFC Autobot Ark. I dunno if it's because it's a reissue or a special edition or something, but 175 (not including tax and shipping) is not worth it for a Single Insecticon that is smaller than a typical car bot masterpiece. Especially when the engineering is fairly simple and not complex. Making Takara Prices look good.
We went with the BadCube and got them a year ago and they only cost $115 for the set so they were even more affordable. We love them. I got Bombshell and my two older boys got the other two. We would not even consider exchanging these to go with the FansToys ones. Not even factoring in the price difference. They have held up beautifully too. We all have transformed them a lot and they really hold up well. I was worried about their light weight equalling lower quality but they still look brand new. No breaks, no scratches or paint chipping where paint is present. The transformations are fun and cool and they are super poseable. Great review overall. I didn't fully agree with all of your score choices but I respect your opinion regardless.
Thanks for watching and your long term opinion on badcube, I still own the badcube set and probably will keep it forever unless fans toys reissues at a reasonable price.
I had opportunity to go either or way back when. Went Badcube because I liked how they look better and because of all the reported FT Kickback QC issues. Still think I made the right choice. Bombshelll's color changing chest gimmick is a big plus for the BC set.
I got my badcube for around 130$ w shipping and handling some 4 Christmas's ago, maybe longer. No complaints. That be my definitive set. Great review 👍. Your videos have saved me money brother.
April 2021 - FansToys Insecticons just got a reissue - BadCubes is reissuing as well (they were 1st to announce) - I almost pulled the Trigger on the FT....... almost but the price is insane! It'll cost $270 for a set of BadCubes Insecticons or.......... $550 ($660 for the grey Bombshell set) for a set of FansToys - after rewatching your review - I am going with BadCubes 98% as good as FTs but 50% of the price = WIN ! I also beleive that the BadCubes is the "Colelctor" set - Clear/Transparent Yellow Chests & Metal DieCast parts = Hands Down my CHOICE & ZERO Regrets. Just couldn't justify the price of the FTs
Forager was my 1st fans toys and 3rd party purchase wanted to see what the hype was about with 3rd party especially with fans toys. I would definitely get the badcube set if I didn’t have any insecticons they look good as well.
TFCon Chicago brought me here for the 3rd viewing. Picked up Grey Bombshell for $230 from a nice vendor at the convention today to complete the set: got both Shrapnel $109 and Kickback for $150 at TFSource a couple weeks ago. Would've been cheaper to get the set but I grabbed Shrapnel to compare to my Badcube set (toy version, diecast feet). As fun, articulated and easy on the pocket the BC set is (and ratcheted!), Fanstoys is on another level. To BCs credit, it is easier to tell the difference in-hand vs just standing there on the shelf (where the difference is less apparent). Great work on this review Sonny, it's very accurate
I’d personally go for FT. I managed to pick up Grenadier @ TFCon Toronto last year, brand new for $100 and just picked up Mercenary for $135 again sealed brand new so not too bad, though Forager i imagine due to the mould it’s rarity and it’s fragility issues will be much harder to find at a good price. Think Iv been lucky with the other two, I have the MMC versions for swarm building. Good comparison though
He isn't worth it with the breakage and pins falling out..... Badcube if you want to transformers is better..... the fanstoys my shrapnel pins from the hand falls out.... Kick back is expensive junk.. Bombshell is the better in Fanstoys.
Hey, thanks a lot for doing this comparison. Always felt like I missed out on the fans toys and settled for the bad cube. But seeing as the fans toys are only a little better in sculpt, paint and proportions - I’m happy with the bad cube ones
FYI I got this three pack of BadCube Insecticons for $115 which means the per Bot price is actually $38 a bot. That is a much cheaper per Bot price than what is quoted in this video. It is currently on the ShowZ website at this price point.
This is gonna sound like such a Small thing to Sway me onto one side or the other, but after a lot of deliberation from Price, overall engineering, sculpt and accuracy, the one thing that truly makes me want to get the Bad Cube over the Fanstoys is the head articulation on Shrapnel. The fact that he can look completely up and recreate that iconic scene where he gets Battering Rammed by Optimus in Truck mode in the Movie finally pushed me over the edge towards just getting badcube. It sucks cause I really do like the sculpts on the Fanstoys Insecticons, but those Prices make me never want to look at them
I have the Badcube reissue (which feels quite solid) & the wing on my Kickback broke at the point where it connects to the shoulder. Seems to be a weak spot on both brands. You’re video was quite informative & helpful
Thanks with the comparison...decided to go with the FT version.. Btw the part that you mention broken, Does come with a piece of printed paper with picture on how to handle with care on the part by FT as its fragile. I got myself the 1st version set, not sure bout the reissue having the notice thou.

Picked up the BC set to have decent representations of these guys but I'm not a fan of the characters at all. Got the whole set for less than $100 which is less than even one of the FT ones which aren't even worth the asking price.
So for the reissue with BadCube, I was able to get the trio for 165 dollars (US) delivered from ShowZ. Fanstoys just costs too much for the name. The BCs are great and present well and seem to be more sturdy.
Just picked up the Badcube Collector’s Edition reissue with chromed wings etc for £120 new from ShowZStore - about a quarter to a third of the price of the FT reissue depending on where you get it! I do like FT but those prices are bananas!
I have the Badcube and definitely okay with them. Yeah I agree the fanstoys are superior forsure. I agree they do feel light and don't have that Fanstoys premium feel. But I think I paid $130.00 dollars actually $115.00 for the set and I think I've seen the Fanstoys Bombshell or Granadier going for like $180.00 on Ebay and that was considered a good price. I've seen them go for as much as $600 for the set on Ebay. As always great review!
i think most people would pick fanstoys over badcube if you were paying retail prices, i got badcubes and like you mention they are not premium figures they're ok they do a job, my sharpnel had come with his hands back to front lol
Errr FT released a Bombshell grey chest option but you've bought the purple option. Hardly fair to mark FT down for this. My opinion is that FT smash Badcube on every figure 👍
Yeah but if you get the grey chest version the FTs one is not correct in Insect mode. Bad Cube did a great trick there to pull off this change in the transformation. While FT's may be superior overall you should give BadCube their props on their actual successes here.
Damn. It looks like you got a bad Bombshell from Badcube. Mine doesn't have a crazy loose head like that and I have the special edition set as well as the latest reissue set. I love my Badcube bugs. The only MP bug set I don't own is Fanstoys. I'd pick them up as well, if they were reissued near the original price point. No way I'd pay the current aftermarket prices for them! I've got 9 MP bugs(2BC sets/1MMC set), the original G1 toys, the Titans Return/CW set and the latest 3P Legends scale toon set. I also have the Fansproject Ninja & Deluxe sets & the Hasbro Chopshop from a few years back. I can live without Fanstoys bugs LOL!
I skipped both of these and went with MMC's set. 0 regrets. They managed to do a pretty faithful G1 look while still making much more dynamic looking bots than FT or BC. And they skipped a lot of unnecessary paint apps the animations never had.
I used to have the FT Insecticons, yes, with the grey chest Bombshell, I got all three at retail price, when they were released, sadly I sold them about 4 years ago out of necessity, and I do not think FT will re release them any time soon, so I will buy the Bad Cube set.
Honestly IMO the Fanstoys KIckback should have got 0 or .5 does no one good if you are a premium toy and your toy breaks due to poor materials or engineering choice. And also transforming, your toy should survive transformation it shouldn't break. Not that whole set is bad ...but I agree they are not worth 600.00 .
You have the toy version of the fanstoys bombshell, he has a purple chest. The normal version has a grey chest. So you cant count that difference as it's the owners preference to get the purple chest.
