Thanks for doing this. You are able to comment in ways that help me understand why you made the choices you did, and then you explained what a better choice might have been. I saw the value of attacking the dominant side. You have the gift of humility and communication. You honored everyone on the court and competed to the best of your ability on that day. Great job.

thanks a bunch for being both kind and honest about the your play and the others. I found the slo mo analysis so helpful to my own understanding of the game and the importance of the smallest details of "readiness" and positioning in mounting a successful defense and converting to offense. Hope we see lots more of this as you get back into competitive play and start knocking back the things you took away to work on. Best hour on TV tonite!

Absolutely love this kind of analysis. It's one thing to be committed to implementing a game strategy, but with the fast moving intensity of the game, the best intentions often evaporate. Slowing down the play of top players, and analyzing what they do and why they do it, will help me better understand the game. Thanks Jordan

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this analysis video, Jordan. Very helpful. Thank you. Also, the angle of the camera filming was extremely enlightening as one can clearly see body positions, paddle angles, ball volley angles (up or down), along with everything else. This is good dude. Question about the point around 28:50. Yes, you were being patient and I'm guessing rule of thumb for net team is to keep you deep; but as advanced players - at what point should have the net guy tried a cross-court angled drop? you are fast, so maybe that's why he didn't try but I'd have a hard time not trying on one of those higher shots from you.
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball Год назад
If I think I can hit a possible winner on a drop shot, I’ll hit a drop. I am very fast, so the higher percentage shot for them was to keep me back. It really depends on who you’re playing and how far back they are.

Enjoyed it, Im a former tennis and paddle player and this summer just began PB play at advanced beginner level so this vid just looks nothing like my drop-in games here in Northeast. Maybe you can do a vid commentary sometime on a 2.5-3.2 level doubles play in action, where long points are few and far between. Anyway, a few questions, thx: 1/ what is the slight jump to help elevate and cause better drops, such as at 13'53 or 27'56? Not sure I've ever seen that move covered in your other vids. A coach here told me that 'third shot drop' is only for advanced players, but I see it as important for even beginners. Does that slight jump help on the drops? 2/ Also, at 31', you're at NVZ line on returning team, yet you're positioned one lateral step away from center line, so left lane exposed. In my games, we on receiving team are told to move to middle of the kitchen line, but yet so many points seem to end due to the opening down the middle--esp. in drop-in games where partner always changes. Do you always tend to shade to the center when playing in the ad court? 3/ Finally, not a question, but just an observation: you advise us to aim shots towards opponent's shoelaces, to force low contact point shots, as opposed to merely place shots that land in the kitchen---that is so much easier said than done for beginners trying to get consistency and variety into their game, and if my shot is placed a bit too high, it becomes a return that is banged back for their winner..... Thx again for your continued great new content at Briones Pickleball!

It was eye opening to see all the attacks to the dominant hand. Another challenge to the "attack the backhand" strategy. Is this mostly defeating their reaction time, or more of a placement shot? Too high and you might get a powerful forehand back at you.

What is the importance of serving deep in doubles? I notice a lot of the serves in this match landing mid-court.
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball 2 года назад
It is important, although as we are all trying to serve deep, we also leave a lot of margin so we don’t miss serves, that’s why you may see a lot of mid court serves. In singles pickleball, I think deep serves are a lot more important.

@@BrionesPickleball Jordan are there any "big" serves or unreturnable serves in Pickleball? (legal that is). Does any player, at any level, consistently win points due solely to their serve, e.g. taking an opponent off the court with sidespin, or topspin, or just plain pace?

@@joenenninger971 it was Rob who was hanging back. I guess he didn't like how his 3rd shot came off his paddle so he stayed back. Julian was ready for shake and bake, and attacked for 5th shot. Julian has tendency to start hand battles that stretch entire court, so maybe Rob thought Julian will take care of it. Indeed, a strange reaction on the 3rd and it definitely caused a misalignment that could have kept point going longer.
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball 2 года назад
Yes I think Rob did the right thing staying back. That’s the thing in a point, you are reacting to the ball and to each player’s position, so it could look different every time. Pros come to the net when they are ready to. Lol
@lawrence084
@lawrence084 2 года назад
Great video !!! My observation...Only 2 lobs. With an opponent that was very aggressive and playing low at the net I would lob a lot more. Too many of their points was when you and your partner was not at the net but in the middle of the court. Also it seem like they put the easy shots away where too many of you and your partner's easy shot end up being returnable, out or in the net. Overall I would say if more attempts at lobbing and down the line shots, the results would have been a lot tighter.
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball 2 года назад
Not sure what level you play Lawrence, but hitting lobs and hitting down the line are riskier shots at the pro level. It’s very hard to get off good lobs because of player’s movement to the ball. This is why you don’t see very many lobs at the pro level.
@lawrence084
@lawrence084 2 года назад
@@BrionesPickleball Isn't that the difference between a Pro and a very good amateur player. The Pros make the low percentage shots at a higher percentage? The match was the loser bracket...I would have love to see how they lost. I do understand what you are stating...but the guy was on one knee (several time). Couldn't gotten easier point(s).
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball 2 года назад
Not necessarily. Pros make great strategic decisions and are very consistent, along with having great attacking skills and also amazing defense. Until you play against athletic 5.0 or pro level guys, you probably won’t realize how hard it is to lob effectively, which is why it should be used sparingly. Just watch the top players in the world, they don’t lob much because they know that they can hit an offensive dink instead, at a much higher percentage.
@lawrence084
@lawrence084 2 года назад
If you say a lob and/or down the line shot was not an option then I have no problem agreeing. But in my defense I do not choose lobbing based on skill level and athletism. I choose based on height and how committed the opposition is at the net by how much they are bending their knees. Your opponenent got low and very focus on the dinking and banging at the net...Those are the opponents I keep lobbing to the opposite side of the corner of the court (which tends to be a backhand return) until they show me they can score points from lob. You should have been 2 for 2 with your lobs and they didn't do anything to convience you to go for a 3rd attempt. It just my obversation. And going down the line always keep the opponents from protecting the middle of the court. It is easier to return shots when you know where they are headed. AND...At the net your fore hand is your weakest hand because it requires you to stab or turn your upper body to return a shot where you backhand is just an arm movement. it is a lot easier and a lot quicker to move.

Have you noticed HOW MANY times you twist the paddle in your hand. You could end up losing a point because of you fiddling with your paddle....

the problem is that in general everybody says that the ball is out when they dont see the ball out, as soon as the ball is on or around the line. if you didn´t see the ball out with your eyes, why you say out? if you are not sure that is out you should say IN .. other way you are kind of cheating, like most of the people do.

now i see the second "out" ball 38:25 ... yeah you guys both are the typical cheaters who say out when the ball is around the line ... why didn´t say was in? you didn´t say anything ... did you see out as well?

We all makes bad calls at times, can’t speak for any of them. Hard to challenge calls when the ref most likely can’t clearly see it.

I understand. I record myself as well and I see constantly balls like that. People says out very easy. The rule is .. when I doubt I say out. But the rule should be .. if I dont see it out 100%, i shouldn't say out .. congrats for the channel

I love the hear the different reasons for different positioning. I like the idea of exploring my weakness and improving. Thanks for these videos. I play with your uncle at Pecos here and there. Love when he gives pointers and tells me why and when do do something. Very helpful.
