I saw a video that shows a hack for cast aluminum molds where the mold was taped with painters tape and the cavity was cut out with an exacto and then sprayed with high gloss engine enamel paint. The baits came out smooth and shiny just like the CNC molds.
I don't want shiny soft plastics. Some old pro tournament bass guys rub and stretch their soft plastics to make them dull before they ever cast the lure. I definitely stretch out Z Man soft plastics for buoyancy and to dull the finish a bit. So maybe those cheaper molds make lures that catch fish better than shiny ones.
Most people are sold by the looks of baits rather than the way the actually catch fish. You’ve got to catch the fisherman before the baits are used to catch fish. I’ve caught fish on the shiny ones and more dull ones. I think it’s personal preference more than anything.

What gloves would you recommend for a person like me who has never poured baits before? Also, do I need a thermometer? If so, could I use a standard tongue thermometer?
Video was well done and the information was presented in a very understandable way. Wish the camera focused more on the items, not the presenter. Still, why would people make their own lures when the price of lures is so inexpensive?

Great video Matt. I'd like to make my own soft baits one day and this video is pushing me to start. If you had to put a guess-timate as to the cost to get set-up, what would that number be (approx)? Lets say just one mold and one color and the accessories (not including the microwave) so I could sit down and make a bait.
You should look at the DoIt molds essential series started kit. It’s $78 and then you can get an essential series mold for $42. Then you just need a couple measuring items and gloves. Maybe $150 to get going.
Baits like a Senko, zoom baits, plastic worms, Swimbaits, a lot of them all have salt. They change the fall rate and weight of the bait. Some people also think the fish hold on longer with the salt.
Any business has start up costs. That’s an unfortunate reality. I’d recommend asking for some of these items as gifts or see if someone will loan you the money once you’re up and running and selling baits you can pay them back.
I've been wanting to make my own lures for a few years, create my own brand. Any tips where to get custom made CNC molds? I haven't had to money to get started, but I will have some to invest real soon
The custom molds are very expensive. I’d recommend getting some DoIt Molds at first and learn the pouring process before getting a custom made. I don’t know where to send you for that either.

I have gotten a quote from a local machine shop we use at Toyota, BNC Machine and Tool, he quoted me $6,000 for a CNC mold with 6 cavities. I've heard there's a shop in Wisconsin that does them way cheaper

My quick answer is no, but that depends on what good money means to you. There’s start up costs and to make serious money you’ll be competing against all the big name brands and that takes a lot of marketing dollars
