Great video. Just asking for some advice, had a EV for a couple of years and just ordered a Powerwall 3 and Heat Pump. I’m currently on the EV tariff at 7p cheap rate for 6 hours with Octopus, I’ve been looking at the Cosy tariff with 3 cheaper rates. Can you charge the Powerwall at the 3 cheaper rates then discharge when it’s more costly? Thanks Ste
Yes, once your new Powerwall is installed you can input the details of your tariff into your Tesla App with each of the different peak and off peak periods. Time-Based Control uses this tariff information to optimise how your Powerwall charges and discharges to lower the cost of energy consumption. This is often referred to as load shifting. Head over to our website www.thenaturalenergycompany.co.uk to read our latest blog on load shifting. Thanks!
This is the best video ive seen on the app. my problem is although it estimates in pence so it must know im in the UK when i try to add my none Tesla car for using their super chargers when i fill in my details it asks for my state and zip code , i have set it to the UK but it still thinks im in the US , How can i set it up for UK ? many thanks .
Thank you very much. We are so glad it is helpful. Regarding your question, I'm afraid you may have to contact Tesla directly for this. If it's showing as the incorrect currency it may be something to do with your account setup. Sorry I can't be of more help.
ive just gone on to Octopus Go and all my solar is going to the grid . ive had the installer out twice and they dont know why, and my Zappi on Eco pluss it drawing from the battery . Do you have any ideas ?
Thanks for commenting. We can help with this! If you get in touch with our engineer David by info@thenaturalenergycompany.co.uk we will get this sorted for you.
So glad I found your tutorial, it was concise, the production was easy to watch and the technical content was superb. Getting ready to add two PW3s to my existing Enphase PV system (31 panels producing 12.5 kWh). This is a marriage made in solar heaven. I was able to size our PV system to cover 125% of our annual consumption and that included our Tesla. We oversized to account for low production in winter, system degradation, and adding ESS. In addition to our 30% federal tax credit, my utility pays a CASH REBATE of $300 US for every kW of battery storage. So this made the decision even easier. Can't wait to become an "ISLAND", we will sleep better. Cheers from the US.
I've just ordered pw3 and solar, being fitted in September. Am on intelligent octopus go, so thinking will charge battery through night at 7p then sell surplus of this plus solar generation back at 15p through day which is what octopus pay to export. Aim to get battery down to 10% by midnight, then go again. Have you looked into this option? Any thoughts?
This is a good tactic but Powerwall 3 will take over for you, it's all automatic. You need to issue your buy and sell prices and it will do the rest for you based upon its machine learning algorithms. It will ensure you are getting the most out of the system. It's quite clever like that!
Hey mate great video thanks for sharing. i still have a question. Is there any chance to set up a charging limit. I learnt its better for.the battery in terms of lifespan if it is not fully charged all the time. ☀️☀️
Whilst this can be a common point with batteries, Powerwall will ensure it takes care of its own health and lifespan day to day. The aggregate throughput of the Powerwall is limited as per the warranty however it is unlikely you will go through this during the 10 year life span. I hope this helps!
I was just listening to the Batteries included podcast and they had a battery scientist on. He said no matter what the chemistry is that you want to charge slowly and only be at a low or high charge state for short periods of time.
