Can not wait to get these. The He-Man of Filmation is what I have been wanting for. Love the Sword of Ancients bonus. I hope they make the whole cartoon line, need that Mer-Man & King Randor👑. Take my money Mattel, I am ready.
I may be in the minority, but I would have preferred more new characters. I am hoping they can finish the original vintage line along with Princess of Power.
@@sunnyshine2215 Translation: they ran out of the popular characters that would actually sell at retail to make. Same thing happened with DC Universe Classics back in the day once they started filling the line with deep cuts and auxiliary characters it died.
Origins is an amazing toy line. I gave a bunch of figures to my friend’s kid and he’s been having a blast playing with them and swapping the parts out. They really nailed it for kids and adults
The reason why the figures in the animated series were different was because the animations were based on motion capture with human beings as models, for example you can see that when they run, they have a realism characteristic of that technique. Therefore, "Filmation" toy figures must be proportioned properly and that is why they are different. Greetings from Ecuador!
Both these figures look really good and I can't wait to add them to my MOTU collection. It'll be very nice to get these Filmation designs alongside everything else. Hopefully the cartoon collection expands outwards to things like Filmation She-Ra, 200X He-Man, and the newer CGI He-Man, lots of possibilities there.
They look really great and the fact that Mattel made new sculpts for this line is awesome. He Man's Face is maybe the best so far and Beast Man looks also great. Can't wait until Skeletor comes. Imagine Mattel would bring out a Castle Grayskull in Filmation style...or Snake Mountain...drool 🤤
The addition of the starburst saying “80’s Adventures” leads me to believe that they’re gonna also do 200x, Revelations, New Adventures, and/or Netflix MOTU
Thanks a lot Dan!... I do love what Super7 did mixing the toyline with the Filmation aesthetic, but these new ones man, they look way better and more accurate, definitely going all in with this new line
You showed the main thing that I had been wondering about - that the scabbard is detachable. I like the scabbard, but I also like that it can be removed so it isn't visible from the front.
Hi Pixel Dan, So excited about these Filmation figures for Masters of the universe. I really look forwards to see which characters they decide to bring out. Really hope we get Evil-Lynn with the black cape thing.
Dan, Masters Of The WWE "The Rock" has the correct Origins Filmation He-Man color, and it matches the Classics versions of both Mattel and Super7. I have made my Origins Filmation He-Man figure off of "The Rock". Only thing is he had gold arm bracers, instead of orange. It's too bad that Mattel didn't go with that color for skin tone with the new body. I will still collect the cartoon line, love Filmation too much! :)
At last!!Very nice sculpts from the company. And for first time(in my opinion),a nice try for Heman's head!!Beast Man is very nice figure!! They were in mood when they create those figures(sorry for my english).
I think this is the best version of animated He-Man that's ever been done so far. I have a couple nitpicks. The thighs look weird (kinda like Galaxy Warriors). The boots are wrong. And why is it so hard to do an up-down wrist so he can do his iconic pose? I wonder if someone has a patent on that kind of joint so they use it very sparingly to avoid royalties.
I can't wait to get these. With this combination of scale, articulation, animation styling and animation-specific accessories, these are truly the figures we old men have been waiting 40 years to get. Also, I'd love to get "expression" packs from Mattel Creations featuring multiple interchangeable heads for the figures. Laughing He-Man, Robot He-Man and Laughing Skeletor immediately come to mind.
This is a fun idea! For me though, the new Origins head is already perfect & the best balance between comics and cartoons, (especially compared to the original Benicio Del Toro head lol) so I’ll skip this. But I want to see more characters in this line! 💯 Funimation FTW 🌟💯
Hey! @pixeldan you know, I wish mattel would make an accessory pack of hands/boots/feet/gloves. Because the cartoon collection without the armor would make a great looking Savage He-Man if we had bare feet…especially for the origins line (because the slight height difference).
I'm going to pick and choose. My nostalgia for the cartoon is limited since "my" MotU canon came from the German audio dramas but I won't say "no" to either a Filmation She-Ra, Hordak or Shadow Weaver. All in all I'd have preferred Mattel finishing the rest of the "vintage toy" line of Origins before rolling out this series. Now that most of the figures built around the standard body are done, Mattel seem super reluctant to deliver the specialty figs like Dragstor, Modulok or Extendar.
I have no problem with this new direction and have in fact pre-ordered all of the figures. My only problem is we are still missing so many classic great figures. And not just are we missing figures, we're missing a whole group of characters called the great rebellion. I want to see the great rebellion made into origins before I want to see the cartoon.
I was able to grab these up a little early. I love them both. Super pumped to get this new line and the sculpts are great. I'm hoping the females in this line have better looking face sculpts and nice looking knees.
Ok so Dan I hate to rain on the parade but at 14:04 the side by side comparison, it looks like the newer cartoon He-man has two left shins. I believe you've got a QC defect there man.
I'm so excited for these. I already have them pre-orderd at BBTS. This opens up the possibility for a Filmation Panthor grayskull, etc... Fingers crossed I just hope people love them also.
Hey Dan, thanks for another excellent review...always enjoy your take on all things MOTU. Are you still due to review a few other Origins figures from previous waves...like Squeeze, Serpent Claw Man-at-Arms, Spikor etc etc?
I'm excited for this line. It's just a shame that the colours on these first two figures are so inaccurate to the cartoon. Mattel made He-Man very pale, and Beast Man should be a much darker shade of orange, almost red. One look at the cover of the official cartoon guide book, and you can clearly see how tanned He-Man should be.
@@michaelj2276It's not the lighting. This new He-Man has the exact same skin tone as the regular Origins He-Man, as he showed in this video. Better get a can of spray-on tan!
Mattel doesn't believe in darker colors, everything a little too light! Did they not look at the Classics line they did? lol!! Or the Cartoon for accurate colors? Oh well.....
15:00 "So, here we go! Naked He-Man party! Lol! But, this is just to demonstrate how different the sculpts actually are...!" Yeah... sure it is, Dan, Sure it is... 😏
looking good, so im guessing if the knees are bent a little they would look more like the origins line, cannot wait to try to get ones I missed from the origins line that the scalpers have on ransom
the reason why they aren't using the Flimation logo is because of Trademark, Copyright, and IP Laws, and trust me it would cost a lot to have that Filmation logo on as you would have to pay royalties too
These are pretty cool looking and I’m happy for those that wanted them, but I got into origins for the original line so I’ll just be sticking to vintage style figures, that’s all I’ve done from the start other than the 2 200X figures.
That's what Mattel plan on doing. Unfortunately, nearly all of the remaining vintage figures require 100% unique sculpts, and complex action features that are an integral part of their designs (Rio Blast, Extendar, Rokkon, Stonedar, Modulok, Dragstor, and Multi-Bot all have transforming abilities). Selling them at retail is too much of a financial risk, which is why they will be Mattel Creations exclusives. The cartoon figures and upcoming retail Origins figures (like Terroar and the Turtles crossover figures) are cheaper to produce, so they are a safer bet for Mattel at retail, and the sales of those will help pay for the tooling of the exclusives.
They'll probably put all cartoon MOTU under that "Cartoon" branding. They have some 200X Teela parts tooled up already and have yet to actually get 200X Teela.
I can't believe that 20 years after Marvel Legends and DCUC made 6.5" the absolute standard for adult collector action figures, we still don't have a MOTU line that is properly in scale with it. We've got two 7" lines (Classics and Masterverse), a 5.5" line (Origins) and a line that's exactly 6" (this new one) but still if you want a He-Man that'll play with your Black Series, Elite Collection etc. we still don't really have it. Classics probably comes closest because you can fudge them in with the excuse that they're MEANT to be bigger and bulkier than your other figures, but that doesn't explain why the regular human characters like Queen Marlena still tower over Spider-Man and Green Lantern. I suppose in reality the closest we've gotten is the 200x line but of course those were all based on updated designs, you can't get the classic versions of characters in that line. Plus the articulation is far below what other compatible lines offer.
These are pretty cool looking and I’m happy for that wanted them, but I got into origins for the original line so I’ll just be sticking to vintage style figures, that’s all I’ve done from the start other than the 2 200X figures.
The overall figure looks excellent to me, but in my opinion, the shade of yellow in the hair is too light!!! It should be a mix of orange and ochre yellow, in other words, much darker! Then, in my opinion, He-Man would be perfect!
I prefer the look of these to the previous Origins releases. I hope we get Fisto, Clamp Champ, Hordak, She-Ra, Glimmer, Catra and Entrapta in this look.
Great and timely review . I was wondering about these. I have to admit I’m not a huge fan, I like the origins better. I do like the scale though. Is it me or does the head of He-Man look oddly out of scale? Maybe it’s the hair, idk. Beast man does look cool. Dan one last question, when Mattel solicited these they showed some new snake men! Are they in the cartoon style or in the origins style, my bank account wants to know 🤣🤜🍺🤛
