for this type of completing the square you have to factorise correct ?

Hello there. How do we express it in the form (ax+b)2 +c where the a is inside the brackets with the x? You might want to check question number 8 (i) from October-November 2016 Variant 13 (CIE Pure Maths 1- 9709) for reference. And thank you for your help so far. Exams are in this june 2019 for me. If my grades turn out to be good, it'll only be because of you :)

In a case like this, unless the answer was obvious it would be easier to expand (ax+b)^2 + c to a^2 x^2 + 2abx +b^2 + c and compare to the given expression. For example 9x^2 +12x - 1 means a^2 = 9 giving a = 3 2ab = 12 giving b=2 since a=3 b^2 + c = -1 giving c = -5 since b=2 So 9x^2 + 12x - 1 becomes (3x + 2)^2 - 5 I hope that helps. Thanks for this as I will make a video on it at some point.
