This is best available understanding of word ‘complaisance’. Believe me I searched every where and watched too many videos related to usmle...and at last searched in RU-vid snd it came out to be a slope for bubble and balloon.. More helpful in understanding respiratory physiology. Like in emphysema or aging you loose elasticity means alveoli becomes more like bubble so compliance goes up... In fibrosis it becomes more like balloon or rigid as fibrosed tissue just want to stay as they are like steel pipe.

would of been better if he would of got to the point of explaining what high compliance is, and what low compliance is

So elastance is a property of a substance to stay steady in its position under changing pressures...this is why steel is more elastic than rubber so they say

unfortunately this is a little misleading right? Compliance is change in volume/change in pressure. Also important to note the in the system, pressure and volume are inversely related according to Boyles law.

i agree :( any clarification on this perhaps?

This is not misleading Boyles law talk about the relation between pressure and volume where one increase while the other decrease so is inverse Compliance is the other hand is how much volume change according to a unit of pressure change. It is how easy a system is able to respond to pressure change and inflate. That is why arteries have less compliance ( capacity to acquired a new volume) than veins. Veins inflate easy because have more compliance. Example in a system like your lungs more compliance means your lungs will increase volume or inflate more.

It is quite correct if the correlation is linear. But we do know, that in a real life the balloon (and lungs for the matter of fact) acts differently. The correlation becomes non-linear when one blowing the balloon overcomes point of resistance

why is elastance inversely related to compliance? in case of a fibrotic lung, compliance is low, it means elastance is high... so why do we need to put extra work to have a normal inhalation??

Didn't get something.. If blood is incompressible how come it takes up different volume in the artery and in the vein?
@sarangmt
@sarangmt 3 года назад
It is not about fluid. What compliance wants to say is about ‘the wall’ in which if fluid(blood) is present.
