Hi Dan, fantastic composition, to turn around something as wonderful as this in a short time is incredible. Am I right in thinking you could have made the same beautiful piece with the BBC SO library as well? If not, then what would be the main differences and what section from the Abbey Road ONE library would you buy to supplement the BBC library?
@DanKeenMusic
@DanKeenMusic 3 года назад
Thanks, Steffan! That's a nice idea, but it's a very different library and would require quite a lot of manual orchestration to achieve the same effect. I did however compose a piece of music in 45 minutes using BBCSO Discover, linked here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-23s6iQ0-hH8.html. Regarding your second question, we only know of a couple of libraries coming in early 2021 (Sparkling Woodwinds and Legendary Low Strings). Having heard both of these libraries already, I can say it sounds like Spitfire are playing the long game with this series - for example, I expect the collection of legatos to be really next level - taking time to experiment and record 'styles' of performances. The swells are nice but I'd say the bite of the loudest staccatos are something that will supplement BBCSO well!

Hi Dan! Absolutly beautiful composition and time, ok..it's important but I think in 45 minutes, working with midi samples and mixing at the same time (like I used to do it) it's complicated so...really good job! A question, just by curiosity...I work in Cubase but I think you are sending every single track to 2 reverbs...I think one of them is Fabfilter Pro-r (i don't know what preset) and the second one? Could it be Altiverb? Can you show me if I am close? presets? Thank you!! And of coarse, subscribed!

@@DanKeenMusic for the strings It might work but for the heavy swing in my jazz piano it doesnt fit. I don´t know I think I use to much swing overall in my excersises. I need to learn a lot more about quantizing. I used 1/8 Triplet and with 12 percent strengh or even less and it is instantly out of tune and sound horrible. Thank you anyway Mr. Keen. Does it make sence to practice every day 1 minute of orchestration ? It is my 5th day and I wrothe already a handy ringtone (orchestral style) for a girlfriend of mine. Hi Dan, I was already excited to see how you saw your work with BBCO. I myself now have BBC Core and now also Abbey Road 1. So far I myself have worked more with virtual synths and instruments that I recorded live rather spontaneously with Ableton Live. Now I am familiarizing myself with Logic Pro and BBCO by recording "Pictures at an Exhibition" (study score). I'm learning an incredible amount here at the moment. When I watch you in the videos, I can see how fit you are in handling Logic Logic and in your musical imagination. My respect! Abbey Road enables me to work more easily and spontaneously in my compositions / recordings. My feeling tells me that in the end I can mix both products quite well. If I want passages even more detailed than possible in Abbey Road, then BBCO is in. How do you see this I still have a second question: How big did you find the difference between BBCO Core and BBCO Professional. I am sorely missing the bass clarinet in Core right now. Keep it up and stay healthy!
@DanKeenMusic
@DanKeenMusic 3 года назад
That sounds like a great exercise, Michael! I should do more of that. I agree with you on your thoughts regarding AR1 - sounds like spontaneity in compositions will be easy to mock up. Regarding BBCSO Core vs Professional, beyond the extra instruments and soloists, I do really love the control over all those mic positions. I bought it at a time when Core and Discover didn't exist so I didn't have the cheaper option. At the promo price, it was a no brainer for everything you get. Some argue that a 600GB library should feature huge sets of round robins and dynamic layers, and that having all those mic positions is a little overkill, but I think it certainly makes the library more versatile. Being able to break the stereo image with the Close Wide and Stereo mic positions means being able to use the soloists, harps, celeste etc as their own sample libraries - something that is really underrated here (particularly the harp!)
@michaelbereckis
@michaelbereckis 3 года назад
@@DanKeenMusic Thank you for the info. I didn't realize that BBCO was slimmed down after the fact. The additional 550 euros from Core to Professional put me off a bit, as I also don't know how Abbey Road will be expanded in the future. Just take a look...

I don’t think I realised how much you’d be able to comprehend the acoustics of the room even through samples; it is definitely much more ‘filmic’ than all of the sounds from Air! I am not in the field of media composition directly, but I do need a ‘this does it all’ library. I have been toying with the likes of something from the Albion range for a while, but have delayed any big purchase because I just wasn’t sure that it was ‘right’ - 80% of the time, BBCSO Discover, or something from LABS or the Originals series is fine for me, but I think you’ve swayed me.... I’d be really interested to hear your further thoughts on this library as you get to know it, Dan. Could this be the ‘this does it all’ orchestral library that I need? Do you think that Abbey Road or BBCSO would be the more worthwhile investment? Or are they just niche in their own ways?! As ever, a great ‘first looks’ demo; really impressive in 45 minutes!

Hi Fayez, Christian just made a video on this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x4tb4BH1tM4.html. It really depends if you’re looking for something quick and playable, or highly customisable. Abbey Road ONE is the former - pre-orchestrated, ready to go, sounds great out of the box. BBCSO is much more controllable, with separate instances for individual instruments and a whole host of articulations and legatos. Personally, I think I’ll still reach for BBCSO more often than AR1, but it’s great to have options and I know I’ll use AR1 a lot despite already having BBCSO Pro

@@DanKeenMusic I appreciate this insight. I’m just getting started in composing, but I’ve been making music for many years (mostly guitar-based rock and recently synth-based electronic music). Thanks for that Dan. It is, again, pretty "big" of you to put your orchestral chops on the line in a 45 minute shoot-out like this. There's something really engaging about an unedited, unexpurgated 'warts and all' session that an edited highlights of a lengthier session wouldn't (I don't think) convey. But, it would be good though to hear and watch a longer session so that you can you work on something until you are more satisfied with it. I thought when you were trying out a rapidly escalating pattern for the second half here, it could have been really exciting- but you scrapped that idea and went for the syncopated brass led chords. It's the second time you've given yourself too much to do in the second half of a timed 'compose-off' - Cut the easy listening intros, I say, and jump to the hyperactive stuff that keeps trying to emerge!!
